Did he have a choice at the banquet of having a pic taken while taking the traditional swig that has been happening for a while for the champions. Its easy for things to be taken out of context. I guess it is a better image to have underage kids popping champagne bottles. People need to relax.

No kidding!

What a dork!

I know I am an old fuck, but if I were getting an award I think I'd probably want to dress a bit more like Andrew Short........

yeah, Shorty looked pretty smooth

What does being gay have anything to do with this?

If he is a "Homo" and a "Drag Queen", how does that make everyone he beat this year feel?

Damn I hope you were just trying to be funny and it just failed in a bad way.

I agree with Ward, mostly on the way Reed disrespects the very sport that made him ridiculously RICH and famous. If it wasn't for MOTOCROSS he would be back in Australia working regular jobs like the rest of us pee-on's....

When I saw the interview I cringed as well but now the REED haters will be louder then ever, what an idiot. A RICH idiot but an idiot non-the-less.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.....

As DC says FUCK CHAD REED! lol

Reed is where he is today because of what he has accomplished so far. If he wants to take summers off, he has earned it. Why call Reed out on it, when Windham is sitting out the nationals too?

reed's what, 25?
Exactly those guys are/were veterans when they decided to sit out the nationals, they have paid there dues. I don’t know how many of you keep up with the NFL, but some times veterans of the sport sit out of training camp in the last couple seasons of there careers. Could you imagine a rookie coming out of the draft sitting out of training camp in the NFL?! I’m not saying Reed is a rookie but he certainly has yet to pay his dues to the sport. Just saying.

Paying dues?? Isn't he third on the all time wins list in sx?

How does Reed have yet to pay his dues? He's ran outdoors a few seasons in both classes and now he's doing sx only? What's the big deal? He is a champion and Wardy kind of sounds like an old geezer with a stick up his ass.

Reeds time on top will be short lived...I dont see him putting together any more sx championships with the amount of tallent emerging. Just sayin...I think Dungey would be a legit choice for next years bet in my oppinion...but heck I'm a noob...

How many national wins does he have? It’s great and all that he can earn huge amounts of money doing SX only but he needs to realize the reason he can earn that money in SX is due to the nationals and the history of the nationals and MX. The guys that go watch the nationals are the ones that pay Reed’s salary (they buy bikes, gear, ect.), not the casual fan that goes to a SX event a year and then has nothing to do with the sport.

Enjoy the controversy. Reed will be lucky to make top 3 next year.

Pay his dues to the sport?

He is a 2x Supercross champion. 35 wins

Finished 2nd or 3rd O/A in the Nationals many times

2nd O/A 250cc World Championship

If that doesn't pay your dues to the sport, what in the fuck does?

It is odd to single Reed out. Jeremy was SX only and by some people's definition he was a "drunk". I see nothing wrong with proudly displaying your country's colors. What he is doing here makes a lot of Australians proud and I hope it brings more of the good ones over here to ride. Bottom line is I am a big fan of Chad, Jeremy, and Ward.

I bet Boyer has been talking to the peeps at Jack Daniels about sponsoring a sx rider and Chad was just showing off his new sponsor. Quit hating on the guy. I don't like him or dislike him, but he has every right to do what he wants, whether it be riding nationals or not. Maybe Pingree can eat the chip right off Wardys shoulders.

I'm not a Reed-hater by any means, but I think that it sucks that he doesn't race outdoors.

As far as what Ward said, he's sounding like Dana Carvey's grumpy old man character from SNL!

Look it, right or wrong, Ward just said what he thought. He comes from a time when guys were not so PC and had a sack!

You have to admit, it was good to have Kevin and Chad sort of battling in the media...

Additionally, everyone knows the current podium speech by heart.

MC like Reed was a supercross specialist. SX came much easier to both McGrath and Reed than motocross. Unlike Reed, MC grinded his teeth put in the work and won some motos and a championship. Reed quit. IMO that’s the difference between MC’s supercross only contract and Reed’s.

"Go back to Australia and live without it then" OUCH!!! It sounds a little personal to me. Back in the days you had to race both series now its different, why hate on reed? the guy wins and can do as he feels.

gotta agree. I don't see anyone being close to Reed and James next year. Maybe in '10, but next year seems a stretch.

Well, if Davi buckles down, he might be close.

Personally, I would LOVE to see all the riders doing the Nationals. Reed proved he could run strong outdoors if had the desire (IMO). But, he doesn't want to run them and that's his choice. Just like Alby should have stayed away from SX all those years and he might have won more outdoors.

Ward comes of as a bitcher and moaner. 1 glass of champagne has as much liquor as a shot of Jack.

If Reed doesn't want to race the outdoors...why is it any of Jeff Ward's business. Get over yourself Jeff. Your time came and went.

Ditto.

Wardy just made hmself look kinda dumb with his comments.

I'd like to see Reed riding outdoors as well, but if he wants to take the summer off, it's his choice, his career. He didn't exactly start the SX only trend. He has said from day one though, that he considers SX his main focus and goal.

Not to mention ... he doesn't even have a ride at this point and is probably feeling pretty beat up from a very tough SX series.

Poto and Townley will both be on the big bikes next year. Stewart might have
seen his last championship.

True, true and if Wards old man hadn't moved here from Scotland he'd be just a bitter little Scot signing on every Monday morning .

Reading between the lines I'm getting :
" Man I wished I could have worked that kind of deal out - I'm rather BITTER about it".

It shouldn't matter if he's doing it for a paycheck or if he loves it... it's his job. Does everyone here go to work every day...

I think most of the people on here would kill to have reeds job, Reed is a great rider, But he needs to appreciate it what he has while he has it.
