Question from 5min. with Jeff Ward. Taken from Racerxill.com
What are your thoughts about the sport of motocross right now? It seems like the hard working, nose-to-the-grindstone days of racing have fallen away again. There have been a few riders getting in trouble with the law lately.
There are a bunch of things that have me pissed off. We are motocross riders and we love the sport; it is our life. We race the outdoors because it is the original form of our racing. Now everyone is just doing Supercross and then taking the summer off. I read Reed’s interview where he says motocross isn’t his life… it’s just something he likes to do. Well, a lot of people like to ride motorcycles. For people who work at the factories and at the gear companies and in the industry, this is their life. For him to say he can live without it is a slap in the face. Go back to Australia and live without it then. He says he’s excited to run the Aussie colors at the MXoN against the USA. I still have a Scottish passport but I was always proud to represent the country that made my career what it was. And there’s a picture on some website of him pounding a bottle of Jack Daniel's. My son is one of his biggest fans and I don’t want him seeing that kind of crap. I understand that you have to have fun but it is certainly disappointing the way a lot of these guys have been acting.

While Reed does have the right to do anything he wants, he deserves all the criticism he gets from not running the nationals. He says that motocross isn’t everything to him and he doesn’t need it, that’s fine move on and stop collecting a check from it if that’s how you feel.

Love and Respect Ward but he should know better than to label one rider.
When are parents going to teach their kids right from wrong, and not blame an athlete for something their kids see? Glad Wardy feels so strong about what a over 21 year old athlete is doing in Vegas to celebrate his championship.
He shot that photo
Seems Reed blowing off the nats is what really has Ward up in arms.
H.O.F.
When I saw the interview I cringed as well but now the REED haters will be louder then ever, what an idiot. A RICH idiot but an idiot non-the-less.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.....
As DC says FUCK CHAD REED! lol
And probably wouldn't be in the same room with Jeremy McGrath.
Just for clarity, didn't he go back and just race the Indy 500 a couple of time and not do the other races in the series? Is that sort of similar to riding SX but not MX?
Pit Row
Reed is where he is today because of what he has accomplished so far. If he wants to take summers off, he has earned it. Why call Reed out on it, when Windham is sitting out the nationals too?
Supercross made him rich.
The point is he just wins the SX Championship which is huge, not to mention the millions he just made and he goes on record saying "Motocross is not my life"...
I just find that disrespectful of a sport that has made you Rich & Famous. Maybe in a few yrs or after the dust settles but not RIGHT AFTER winning it all.
The timing is just WRONG imo....
reed's what, 25?
He would still be NOTHING w/o moto.
You don't suddenly wake up one day and wanna be SX Champion and fullfill that goal w/o racing motocross.
I do agree that the image of a champion is not one swigging a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Champagne, yes
Bottle of whiskey, no
Kids do look up to these guys.
It's not an image of a champion.
Call me a prude
good for Reed - I hope he sends Ward a note that says simply 'fuck off'.
MX media is weird, they try and hide alot of stuff. Seems weird that this photo would be released.
