Seems to me James missed a big chance to try to bring some kind of right to this when he walked from the station to the truck all hoodied up and not saying anything - especially if he had already confessed. They should have huddled before emerging and come up with some sort of statement, no matter how brief, containing all kinds of regret and apology and admission of extreme momentary stupidity - I think he'd be sitting better right now. Granted, that would have likely been a very hard thing to do at that moment, but it's a moment that's over now.

eh, i dont think so. best thing is to keep your mouth shut. in the heat of the moment, you might say the wrong thing.
just like he shouldnt have admitted to it and gave a statement. should have waited for the attorney. or maybe he did. idk.

I agree. I'd hate to see something like this, even though it was a really dumb thing to do, to affect him in any way in the future.

Sorry.. I don't call that impersonating an officer...maybe to the letter of the law.... but I don't see it that way. You know how many volunteer fireman do the same thing? That is also against the "letter of the law", at least in my neck of the woods.

Just as I don't agree with doing a short burnout at a stop light and being charged with "failure to maintain control". Wink

Anyways.. guess we'll see what happens. I'll bet it comes down to something simple and meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Agree with some of that, but putting lights on your vehicle to pull someone over is just plain idiotic.

Lights go on, people in the car get spooked, have an accident, someone gets hurt. Think that never happens? No big deal?

If James thought he had a shit storm when people didn't like his decision making ability on the track, that will pale in comparison to this..

R-acers world just came crashing down all around him. On a positive note, Stewart has a ton of street cred on here now........

Does anyone think this will affect his concentration for a c'ship, at least in the next race or two? Can't be good for the swagger.

No it won't. The only people that will have a problem with this are the EXACT same people that "don't like his decision making abilities on the track"

According to the news, he did confess...so that's a +1
So he's not going to waste a lot of court time, another +1
As far as I know, he has no criminal record, another +1

So it'll all likely be pleaded down to a misdemeanor, he'll get a hefty fine (nothing to him) and a bunch of community service, which he's already be somewhat doing with his visits to Boys & Girls Clubs prior to races

It's more embarrassing than criminally detrimental
He could of confessed after talking to a lawyer to save court time, why is it a +1to confess right away?

I'd respectfuly disagree.
Two completely different situations.
I can't imagine being in his "on track" position for making decisions.
I can directly relate to this off track scenario.

And you are correct this will all be boiled down to much of nothing when all is said and done.

Yeah I agree.

My brother just moved from Windermere to a couple miles down the road Dr. Phillips, that is a very nice/fun area you live in.

A good buddy of mine reps for one of the law enforcement auto outfitters. The ones that build and supply all the gear you find in a cop car. Lights, computers, radios, cameras, etc. He calls on all of the LE agencies. His demo car is a black crown vic with all the latest and greatest goodies.

The buttons are kinda fun to play with.....not that we'd ever do that. Shocked

He should do opening ceremonies with flashing blue and red lights on his handlebars, play it off like no big deal. with the best lawyer money can buy I don't see this going to far.

When he bought them he prob thought they were some sort of strobe he could use for his youtube videos. Unknown to James, his passenger was simply checking the lights out to see what they were, James just happened to be in a hurry to catch a flight and the officers misinterpreted this as fleeing. All a misunderstanding.

That's when he really had a major brain fart. Evading arrest with a car usually gets you jail time.

I would like to think that since they were not actually in a "marked cop car" that it didn't register to him at the time that they actually were cops, even if they flash a badge. I would like to think if it had been a marked car that he would have pulled right over. I can understand being unsure what sort of situation you might have gotten yourself into with an unmarked car pulling up like that. Who knows, maybe they were impersonating an officer as well? Smile
