TWMX wrote on their site that he cut his chin casing a jump or something and had to pull off, I believe.

He was back about 6th or 7th and didn't seem to be making any progress. Looked to me like he was styling (whips) more than I would have expected being back that far. He seemed stronger in the heats.

I wasn't trying to knock him. I just remember expecting him to start moving up and it wasn't happening. Then it seemed like he was doing whips and stuff and it surprised me.

I agree with you. While he wasn't making much forward progress, he was matching the pace of the guys that he was riding with.

Grant Langston was on the webcast when Lawrence pulled off and he speculated that Jay, having suffered a poor start, probably just decided to pack it in for the night and save himself for the Nationals. Why risk injury coming from behind in a race that doesn't really mean anything? - or something to that effect...

Langston went on to say that Lawrence has been absolutely flying outdoors and he feels that JLaw has a very good chance of winning the title this year.

Anybody out in CA seen Lawrence practicing lately?

He started in top 5 and was making progress, then it looked as if something was up and back he went untill he pulled off. I would not count him out outdoors, thats for sure. If I had just won a c-ship the week before, not sure how motivated I'd be to race the next week for no points, no real reason, especially in vegas, especially with the connections he has.

Yeah, he probably looks like he's flying when you see him ride by himself or with mortal guys. But put Villopoto, Dungey, Stroupe and Canard and maybe Townley and Metcalf in the mix and J-Law's most likely 4th to 5th fastest outdoors. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

According to Langston, his observations were from riding with Lawrence at Glen Helen (and noticing how hard he had to push on his 450 to keep up). Langston is hardly a mortal, in the moto sense.

He's also a Team Yamaha rider, and you'd never expect to hear anything but praise for another "teammate" like that..... And yes, the YOT riders count as Team Yamaha riders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Smile

Since he didn't start out front he just said fuck it since he knew he wasn't going to win anyways and it didn't matter since it was a none points race or maybe he really did bust his chin open. Smile

Lined up Tail? Have you seen him without his helmet. I bet racing is bit easier for him than lining up tail.

I bet lining up tail is easy because of racing.

Alexis, Christina, and Melissa. And they're not drag queens. I'd post pictures if I had any, sorry. We're going riding next weekend, perhaps I'll get them all to take their jerseys off on video. Tongue

He obviously wasn't trying. He basically dropped hints all week in interviews that he wasn't going to push it this race at all.

Not a chance in hell J Law wins an outdoor moto going away.......I don't think he'll ever win a moto outdoors. He'll be competitive for sure. Top 5's and an occasional podium.

Has he ever even led a moto?

jathey, I wasn't actually there but a few of the factory guys over Yamaha had him out at Perris Raceway like three weeks ago and again I WASN'T there but the word was they had a full blown factory 450 that wasn't a YOT bike and the kid was flying. as far as Vegas goes I heard he had strict instructions not to push it since he had the 250 west season win and he's basically one of Factory Yamaha's biggest priorities for the outdoor season. I know alot of people like to badmouth the kid for some of his old ways but he's matured bigtime both as a rider and a person. Anyway I hope that answered your question.

Thanks, Schaeffler219. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I heard that he's really been on it out there (confirmed by Langston), but didn't know anything about the factory 450 session. Wow.
