We have the most manufacturers weve had making mx bikes since the golden age in the 70’s, kawi is coming out with a new big bore 2 smoker, we have all kinds of electric bikes on the market now, and soon theres going to be chinese bikes hitting the market too which will finally put something in the entry level mx market that weve been asking for since forever. There really is going to be something for everyone. The beginner e motos make it so kids can ride around their yard again without pissing off the neighbors which is huge for getting people into the sport. The chinese bikes coming especially once on the used market is going to make it so people who dont have a lot of money will be able to get something thats still competitive though a lot cheaper. We really could be entering into the new golden age, theres never been so many options to choose from and on top of that 2 of the biggest problems we have which are cost and sound are also being solved. Good times ahead.

I love how many options and prices we get. We are blessed. I especially love the electric offerings ⚡

I think we also have an entire generation growing up loving 2 wheels with the cheaper electric bikes you see everywhere nowadays. Just gotta make sure everyone stays as safe as possible, but I love seeing so many more people out riding anything with 2 wheels

Yeah, it’s pretty cool, except the E-Moto bikes are definitely an issue. Kids doing wheelies in the streets, with cars, usually wearing not much gear. If you’re in socal you see it constantly and there’s been several fatalities just this year alone. I disagree with them being an entryway into moto. Most of the kids just see it on TikTok and want to be a part of the trend. They’re not getting on real bikes to ride/race at tracks. Other than that… yeah pretty cool.

Would you rather the kids just be playing video games or doing drugs?

I didn’t realize those were literally the only two alternative options available… Wtf are you on about? They could also just ride their E-Moto bikes somewhere there is not motor vehicle traffic… You’re trying to paint me as the fun police because I don’t like seeing kids die? You’re weird.

In Australia, any bike with a motor, except for “pedal assist” e-bikes are motorcycles. Unless road registered and the rider licensed, they can only be ridden legally on private property. Kids are riding them on the street, foot paths and cycle ways.
When something goes wrong- they are charged with numerous serious offences. One teenager in my local area has been charged with “Operating a motor vehicle in a way that caused death” (and a litany of other offences “unlicensed”, “unregistered”, etc) He could be facing a prison sentence.

Where I live they kind of just ride everywhere run through the red lights never stop at stop signs, ride on the wrong side of the road I think they should have license and insurance just like I do on my motorcycles , and follow the rules

E bikes are mostly replacing bicycles for kids, so there is is going to be crossover of kids into racing dirtbikes and owning an e bike.

IMHO having parents involved in /knowledgeable of the local race series to get junior plugged into racing is what grows the sport.

I viewed it as look at the silver lining. Getting them outside on bikes is the first step. Then we need to get them off public roads and into a controlled environment. Yes, they're a problem ripping around the streets, but if we can find a way to make areas safer for them to ride rather than just knee-jerk ban them and push them back inside, I'd see it as a win.

My city has tons of unused land/timber leased to/owned by utility companies and it frustrates me that it's all off limits/behind barbed wire fence. Why not make it multi use/lease it to the city to make it a better place to live? More hiking trails, hunting, mtb trails, e bike trails/park, let local universities send biology students out to do field work/restoration/cleanup? A 200k+ metro area population should be able to make use of areas like this.

Apparently there used to be atv/dirt bike trails in one park, but someone ventured onto the road and got killed by a speeding car decades ago and it was shut down.

The only thing that annoys me about the e-motos is I’m 37 years old so I want to get one but register it and put a plate on it so I’m not breaking the law riding on the street but its almost impossible to register them. I wish they would make it easier. Who knows maybe more kids would register them if they were able to.

Yah the kids riding on the streets  is bad.  I disagree that there will not be any crossover.  After You ride , You get hooked and its a hard habit to kick.

I'm gonna guess that most of the kids that are the ones that are riding on the streets and doing dumb stuff are kids who's parents bought them the bikes. I'm not sure how to fix that. Parents will start seeing more and more kids dyeing on them and that will reduce some of them. But I think that a lot of the blame falls onto the parents, and then also police are not allowed to chase kids on bikes in many areas so kids know that they will get in big trouble for stopping. And that its almost a given that they can outrun them and get away without getting in trouble.

When I was a kid we rode slowly on the edges of the street to the trails. Sometimes on the back roads that had zero or close to zero traffic we rode  on the road at a similar speed to what a car would be going. But we also would be chased by cops if we ran. And the local cops would normally just tell us to shut the bike off and followed us while we walked the bike to a trail or home, to make sure we didn't ride it after they let us off.  So we knew that as long as we didn't do anything dumb, we would be OK.  The environmental police, that is another story, at the time even the local cops told us to run from them. They handed out tickets for vehicle trespass if you had a vehicle that had street plates  and were off road. I got a $500 ticket with a street legal vehicle. In MA at the time, You needed to have BOTH off road and Street registrations to be legal on a dual sport.

It really sucks that something that could be so good for the sport, may end up being a thing that hurts it badly.  I do hope that some sort of trend of building places for kids to ride happens like  the skatepark, BMX/pump track's that have been built all over.
