He's doing well, but in a lot of cases, getting his ass handed to him and sometimes getting lucky at the misfortunes of other riders. The thought that he is hanging back and letting the others go when he could just as easily be at the front is rediculous. He is the Dungey of 2011.
There's a big diffference between " Picking your battles", and riding as good as you can, getting beat, and then occasionally getting lucky because the guys who are setting the pace falter. Big difference.
got it.
Just kidding, you can tell Ryan is riding at a comfortable pace but still on the edge. Reminds me of another red head who won alot of races
2006 SX - mistakes mistakes mistakes, won Dallas, 3rd in points I believe, behind Langston and Shorty.
2006 MX - Dominated, Championship.
2007 SX - Dominated, Championship.
2007 MX - Epic battle with Townley, Championship.
2007 MXDN - Won both motos by a minute.
2008 SX - Lost title by a few points to Canard, won 3 in a row.
2008 MX - Dominated, Championship.
2009 SX - Two wins, injured early season, 4th in points I believe.
2009 MX - Went 1-1 at Glen Helen, got hurt before Hangtown and pulled out after a 17th in Moto 1.
2010 SX - Won 9 races (right?) before injuring himself at St Louis.
2010 MX - Injured, DNS.
2011 SX - 5 wins, 26 point lead, consistant, Championship written all over him this year.
So was the MXdn
In a RacerX podcast, Weege and Mathes pointed out to Ping that Carmichael had only won 1 supercross after Daytona in the 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007 seasons. Yet Carmichael was famous for saying, "The season doesn't start until Daytona." That's called misdirection folks. Make your opponent believe one thing while you are doing another.
Here is a quote from Sun Tzu, the Chinese master strategist from 2, 300 years ago:
If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.ted.
- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
i think that best sums up how he's doing this season...

I can't wait to see him ride outdoors again, it seems like forever since he's ridden outdoors.
I hate to say this, but I doubt that anyone other than you and the rest of the RV camp remember that ride. Going from last to 7th is a great ride, but nothing other than that made anyone think that it was "spectacular." That's just MHO. Like you said before "he is not going all out"? People can tell when he is being cautious and when he is letting it all hang out. Last to 7th for him isn't spectacular, it's expected.
I'm not trying to rag on Ryan, I think that he is a really good rider.

Ryan Villopoto is in it for the championship. He is not in it to set the fastest laps in practice, the fastest lap in the race, or try and make statements such as the one Stewart attempted at Daytona.

JS: 3,1,2,1,1,15,3,4,9,2
I posted earlier this week in a different thread that everyone was entitled to their opinion blah, blah, blah. I was obviously wrong about that and would like to now apologize for that statement.

Based on Stewart's performance this year, how would you rate him...Good or Very Good?
Surely not "Spectacular"?
