Paid an whole $800 dollars for this jewel. It rode great at the track except for this mid throttle skip/hesitancy. At WOT it ran smooth. But at part throttle it kind of spit and sputtered. What is most likely the fix for this. I assume a jet change issue is in the future. What should I look at? What jet most likely controls this area of the throttle? It idles ok and WOT is good, cranks good. Where to start?

Thanks,

Gerald

I would start by moving the needle clip up or down 1 position and see what happens before I would change the jet.

Already has a FMF pipe with a stock silencer. Would the Vforce help my problem or was that just a performace improvement

Probably both, but more for performance! make sure air filter is clean and has a good seal!, My buddy has a 03 for sale like 20 hrs on it, wish you could have got it! $1500, like new. stock with some ugly graphics, he s in the service, never rides it.

If it runs good at WOT but sputters at part throttle it is probably either a jetting issue, or less likely a problem with the exhaust valve or ignition.

Run the the bike at 1/4 throttle and do all the usual things: check the plug, look for smoke and put your hand behind the silencer and see if it gets spattered with oil, then kill it. Wet, oily and smoky exhaust and plug means rich. If its rich, drop the needle jet (raise the clip a position or two). If it's still rich, replace the pilot jet with the next smaller size, then repeat tests. If it's not rich but sputtering, look at the manual for how to diagnose ignition and exhaust valve problems.

I ride the same bike.

Best Bike I've ever cornered on, and the list includes a new rmz 250.

Clean everything, power valves, filter, carb, check float level, reeds, fresh plug, check all wire connections including kill button. Whats really cool is you can do all this for about $50. I'm looking for a killer deal lke that out here in Cali.
