My YZ is a workhorse, hoping to relegate it to "practice bike status" next season when I get a fresh one. Admittedly, was not a fan of it my first couple of seasons on it but have acquired a taste for the raw feel of it compared to my friends 250Fs and "higher tech" two strokes. Unless you are at the sharpest end of racing or into hard enduro super heavy, I feel like it's still the most affordable way to race and be competitive.

The piston let go on me late last season after I pushed the limit on time between top ends just a bit too long. Cylinder and rod were good so 5 hours of rinsing metal out of the lower end and new piston later, I was back on the bike. Not saying it was advisable but it was 20-25 motor hours ago and still running like a champ!

This is one of the only pics I have since doing the current gen restyle kit and big tank this spring. Definitely feels more modern than the previous gen plastics/seat.

A follow up to this:

Ended up grenading the Motor on the '21 in July, as mentioned in my prior post, the cylinder was reused from the 1st time it let go. Between that and the lower end bearing allowing oil to get sucked in from the lower end, it was not a pretty sight when we opened it up. It's last race was a mud race and it got pretty hot which didn't help either. Once again, total workhouse and not at all on the bike, it was well past its life expectancy. It has since been replaced with a '27 250X and the good parts salvaged. This one will have a much better life due to more time and budget for maintenance, only a couple races on it so far but stock out of the box it is so sick!

2024 YZ250, PC r304 and Champ stamp, PC jetting and VP T2 mixed to 32:1 with Ams Oil Dominator. Things been a unit for me and just works so damn well. +2 to Chris Blose for the best FMX suspension with Platinum valves in the game.

An 09 Honda 450 about killed me twice last year so sold that after bending the forks and breaking my collarbone to have the moto bike as a YZ again as well. This 2012 was a MOFO. Blew it up 8 hours after buying it due to the crank being WAY higher in hours than previously known. Had a 2020 450 front end on it, and got everything swapped back to YZ250 suspension after the fresh motor rebuild. Would've been better off just buying new LOL

Stock pipe is really good. Great all around power.

The FMF fatty is practically pointless. Adds a small bit bottom and takes away a bit of top. The least change over stock out of all the pipes.

Regular PC has massive top and zero bottom end. I'd like to see it dyno'd against the champ pipe because I believe its peak is still higher. Really hard to ride for someone like me who doesn't wind it out everywhere.

Bill's is significantly better everywhere over stock. Maybe only slightly off bottom, but picks up very noticeably through mid and top.

PC Champ pipe is similar to Bill's, with slightly less bottom and a tad more top. Though, in a weird way the Bill's feels like it has just as good over rev. Stretching the gears out between those 2 pipes is very similar.

Ive had just about every pipe, and between the Bills and the Champ Stamp its a hard tie for me. Great power, Rideable, and I agree the bills has more over-rev, has a very good feeling mid. I ran the Vullemin special for years with a FMF Fatty/R304 until I got the Bills, but currently am running the PC CS for the sake of it and like it as well. My 2012 has a stock pipe and I've switched between FMF Short and R304, but I'm going full Bills. Stock w/ a shorty just doesn't pull as long as I'd like.

My 2003 that I loved back then. Nothing special, except it has Showa A-kit.  03YZ A kit.jpg?VersionId=TByQLHz0FBKloKvfLa03YZA kit2

Had a 01 YZ250 that I bought second hand off a kid for $2100 bucks. That thing had about 40 hours max on it and just felt right in every way. The engine was so easy to manage and had just the right combination of hit and rideability. I was racing a lot at the time and my friend convinced me to get rid of it for a 2018 TC 250….. I preferred the old relic once the dust settled…. Man I miss that bike

The YZ250 is a little brutal at times
