In August, Chinese manufactured cars were 44% of sales in Australia.
I think @ShellyMX's has a bias against China, it wouldn't matter the quality.
It could also be that some Americans might not be aware that the US market is in a very peculiar position with low chinese sales that are absolutely not representative of market shift in the rest of the world.
And if you don't see any motorcycle or car around you it's probably easier to get stuck in old habits and not realize the manufacturing and technological leap happening in China in vehicles and high tech.
Howes on the ZXmoto did much better on day 2 (Wednesday). 7th and much happier with the bike.going well early on Thursday too.
Given the works Honda, KTM, Yamaha competition Id say theres not much wrong with the ZXmoto...

I believe we can take the hypothetical out.

I get what some of you are saying and it does sound somewhat encouraging. I’m basing my opinions on what I have seen in the past. Especially the durability part. Again, I may be wrong and only time will tell with these motocross bikes they’re producing. It’s truly hard for me to imagine China producing anything comparable to the Japanese motocross bikes. Things may look great on the surface, but let’s see how they do down the line. Who knows? China and Japan may go to war once again and this time on a motocross track.
I've been running 2 Mizumo cylinder heads and various parts in my 22R Toyotas for years and they have been pretty good for 10 thousand miles so far! The first one I called LC Engineering and replaced the valve springs and retainers with the good stuff because I'm running Redline camshafts, but the second one (besides porting) I just ran out of the box, rockers and all. I think the key to running china stuff is to avoid the no brand (cheapest) parts and look for a brand that is willing to put their name on the box and charge a little more. (I believe the no name cheapest stuff comes from the reject bin, and someone still sells it)
Kove has been racing Dakar for 4 years. Last year they had 9 riders (2 officials + 7 privateers), they all finished bar one due to a crash. And they won 3 stages in the Rally 2 class (production-based unlike than RallyGP factory prototypes).
That's 14 days of serious test of (man and) machine.
The Chinese has smaller hands than Americans, so they are able to do more precise work. That's engineering 101.
I was impressed with the vehicles in this video. I watched it when it first came out and it really surprised me and made me sad that the Government has not allowed them into the US. The guy that made the video is from around the area I live in and he has a new England sense of humor that not everybody will enjoy. But he knows a lot about EV's and cars in general. Its funny to see his vehicles show up on Marketplace every so often.
Hopefully we can benefit from some less expensive, but equal or better performing Chinese MX bikes . It might be a good thing that there are not any US made dirtbikes or they may have blocked them too.
No doubt the quality of products from China have improved significantly over the last decade or so…
Personally, I think that hurdle has mostly been cleared. Their challenge is going to be performance, specifically on the engine department. They seem to be notably lacking HP and torque.
Does a lack of HP and torque matter for people if it's their first bike?
Our shop sells small Chinese pit bikes and atv's for Christmas and we find outrageously tiny gloves in the crates sometimes...
Hopefully not child labor.😳
The kids that get the yamotos will have to learn how to fix them, it's not child labor it's education. They should be paying extra for the experience.
Theyre probably doing what they always do and going for low prices first to grab marketshare. The bikes cost half of the japanese/austrian bikes. Theyre winning races in worldsbk, they know how to make power. Sport bike tech is where the tech is proven first then its moved over to moto. Plus its not like its rocket science, theres not really any secrets anymore.. high revving over square engine, downdraft intake, centerport exhaust, dlc coated finger followers, aggressive cam profiles, high compression short skirt teflon coated piston, efi…etc. Then youve got all the mapping and electronics on top of that.
First bike? No. But they want to go racing. If you are starting off down 4-5HP, are you buying the bike if you plan to race it?
People buy RMZs to race, so how is this any different?
Looking into this (meaning I asked Ai)...
KOVE MX250 = 37.5hp ($160.00 per HP @ $6000)
Suzuki 250 = "a hair under 40hp"... round down and say 39. ($192.00 per HP @ $7500)
Kawasaki 250 = 40ish. ($225.00 per HP @ $9000)
Honda 250 = 41.5ish. ($216.86 per HP @ $9000)
The Chinese "A" brands (KOVE, HJ, ZX moto, etc....) are all using this same engine it seems.
These are rough numbers and a very stupid way to measure a bikes value, but if it were all about HP.....(I didn't bother with Austrian Group as they were more expensive).
Pit Row
People still buy 125's, and guess what? They are fun to ride.
If my calculations are correct, ZXMoto is claiming 40.2hp

Never mind…
I won't then...
Ha!
Based on your calculations there’s a predicted 72% breakdown rate. That’s not good by my calculations.
Should be available next month in the UK for £5455 ($7200, about 2k cheaper than CRF250R). There should be real world reviews quite soon.
Make sure you buckle your helmet so it doesn't become a projectile when your head explodes after you get passed by a China bike.
