/\ I saw Evel Knievel jump at Pocono International Raceway in August of 1970. He crashed on the landing, he had his front tire cocked sideways when he landed. It honestly looked like he did that on purpose. We had a good view of the landing ramp. He did get up from his crash and talk to the crowd afterward.
That issue of MXA was wrong. The Screw-U was renamed "The Wall" not "Gravity Cavity".
Nope, sorry. What is now called Gravity Cavity was called Screw U. What is now called The Wall was originally called Grand Prix Hill since it was introduced for the first USGP in 78, it was never Screw U. They announced before the 2nd one in 79 that Screw U would be called Gravity Cavity. I happened to be standing there when those guys hung up that sign in the picture.

Thanks for sharing those DJ.
When those Mag wheels came out and we found out they were guaranteed for life we had to have them. We put them on and rode down to the grocery store loading docks . They dropped off about 6 feet onto concrete and it took us about an hour to break those Mag wheels. We took them back and got some new ones!
Didn’t Pierre have a house in Mission Viejo at one point?
My dad took me to the Sacramento mile flat track in 1967 for the first time. Evel wasn't even jumping then. But he was there doing 80 MPH wheelies on a Triumph. I don't have any photos but I do have some 16mm film my dad took.
Classic 70’s! 😎
Nope, sorry back at you. The Hill People hung that sign where the most people would see it, (including Ward Robinson). That was above the Gravity Cavity. But that does not mean the Gravity Cavity use to be called The Screw-U. The MXA caption was wrong and you are wrong.
Here's what Scott Wallenberg, publisher of Racer X says about what The Wall use to be called.
