I've heard that WSX is shutting down and may not resume next month.

Is this true?

Well…

…who did you hear it from?

…do they have a good track record in rumors?

Did they say that it “is” shutting AND “may” not resume next month?

You can save 100% by just not having any. Seems to work for a lot of people.

As of today former F1 executive Tom Burwell is still listed as WSX CEO

Tom Burwell named as FIM World Supercross Championship CEO https://share.google/oWRF1AC6mUS9xLCVx

Most of their news is over a year old but their Instagram page appears to be up to date:

Not a surprise.

The venue held European Athletics Champs a few months ago, place was half empty, no onsite parking, park and ride miles away, and expensive as hell, and honestly, while there was a buzz about the Villa Park event, this one seems to have been really quiet and poorly promoted, to the point where i dont think i have spoken to anyone that i know who is going. Its an hour at best from me, and if i wasnt working another event , i would probably go , but not before seeing the weather forecast.

I feel sorry for the teams and riders who have set themselves up for this, but in the current climate, it just isnt viable .

Even SMX looks like a bust, crowds are very thin,  moving away from the big outdoor venues makes it a non-event IMO.

The season is long, too long, and we need to normalise a proper off season.

NFL is 18 weeks.  That seems to do ok.

You can't knock them for trying. They have managed to put on some really good events that have been great fun to watch, with great riders. They certainly have the skillset to run a good championship but I guess in our small sport it's more difficult than you would think to fund it.

You cant base the success of any series on how good the racing is, it has to stack up financially, OR have someone who is prepared to suck up the losses.

We are a very 'benefactor' led sport, at lot of the 'investment' is simply folk setting fire to money, for the love of the sport, the money makers are not the ones putting on the show,

Bottom line matters,  if you cant attract enough investment , its a fairly short journey to insolvency.

With Buenos Aires and South Africa still being TBA, this could easily become a 3 round series. They are still selling tickets to Australia and New Zealand. I don’t see how they rebound from this.

STATEMENT FROM SX GLOBAL ON THE FUTURE OF THE FIM WORLD SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP AND BRITISH GP

London, UK, 22 September 2026: Following recent speculation, SX Global can confirm that it is actively progressing discussions to secure significant new investment that will strengthen the foundations of the FIM World Supercross Championship and support its next phase of global growth.

The process is progressing positively, and discussions are focused on securing the right long-term investment to help build a stronger, more sustainable platform for World Supercross, its teams, riders, partners and fans.

As with any investment of this scale, completing the process requires appropriate time and due diligence. While we remain confident in the future of the Championship, the timing requires us to make some short-term operational measures.

As a result, we have taken the difficult decision not to proceed with the World Supercross British GP, scheduled to take place in Birmingham, England on 10 October.

We recognise this will be disappointing news for our fans, teams, riders and partners, particularly in the UK, where World Supercross has built a passionate and important following. This decision has not been taken lightly.

All ticket holders will receive an email directly from Ticketmaster within the next 24 hours. Refunds will be processed automatically to the original method of payment and should be received within 14–21 days.

Our priority now is to complete the investment process, support the World Supercross teams and partners, and ensure the Championship is positioned for long-term growth and success. We thank our fans, teams, riders, partners and event stakeholders for their continued support and patience as we work through this important next phase.

A joint statement from the World Supercross teams added: “We are encouraged by the efforts being made by SX Global to position the Championship for the future. We all believe in World Supercross and know there is a global audience for the sport. Motorcycles, riding equipment, content and streaming are consumed across markets throughout the world, and we need to continue working towards reaching those audiences.

“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for World Supercross. The teams remain committed and will be ready to race when the Championship returns.”

The ol’ 2-3 week electronic refund delay. I know it’s not WSX’s fault, but it still sucks…

A lot of words to say we are upside down/insolvent in this and looking for another sucker to prop this scheme up for a little bit longer while we bail.

The more they cancel events the more difficult getting proper venues will be....The teams have not been paid because they don't have the money....feel bad for the teams and riders but the writing has been on the wall since the 1st season....My guess is that this is going full circle and Adam Bailey's Aus SX will benefit from this and there will be some type of connection/partnership with Feld in the future....as they have already started this with SMX Next in Austin SX....

I think it is becoming difficult to ignore the handle of a fork sticking out of WSX

The model can work but they are trying to bite off way more than they can chew, clearly.

Poor Max Anstie. He parts with Star because he can presumably make more money racing WSX. Now he won't collect a check from either?

So what is your idea of how it can work? As Matthes says, the math doesn't math you can't pay the riders what they are with the ticket sales and crowds they have and make money. Because of their history of small crowds that affects the amount of money they receive from governments.....

I've always thought the FIM needs to find a way to get the GP teams and riders interested in SX. I'm not sure how they do it with the GP season running from March to October, but if they can't get Europe interested they have no chance. They will continue to battle with Aussie SX for the same pool of AMA castoffs.

It's like a third party breaking into US politics.  The big two just aren't going to let it happen.

None of these series work unless the manufacturers and sponsors cover the bulk of the costs on the talent side. If SX had to depend on stadium revenue and TV deal to cover everything it wouldn't work either. WSX model was never going to work without manufacturers providing the talent.
