I listen to all the podcasts and keep up with moto media pretty well, but the most I had heard about jetts post ironman surgery was they “went in and cleaned it up and that tracks with other guys that had the same injury, they had to have a second clean up later on”. Looking into it further come to find out one of the screws was backing out and was catching on a ligament causing scar tissue.

In the long run I definitely think its better he gets the hardware out vs leaving it in, because that should give him the best shot at making a full recovery and gaining back full range of motion. He had 11 screws and 4 pins, I dont care how good a job they do thats never going to feel as good as going back in and getting them taken out and letting it fully heal. Apparently they had planned on leaving all that hardware in, but after the screw backed out they just took everything out. This should hopefully help the longevity of his career and keep him racing for years to come. Hopefully we get the full jett back for sx.

Stop "dropping your heals" boys and girls.  Not a matter of if, but when you're gonna get your ankles, feet, or achilles messed up.  I used to drop my heals, until I learned the hard way not to drop your heals.....not going through that shit again.

That's good news he having the hardware removed. I had my several plates removed from my leg late last year from my 2019 debacle. They weren't really bothering me, but...you just feel different with that stuff in you sometimes. Sorta...clumsy at times. Best decision I ever made health wise.

Removing hardware can also make your life easier at the TSA line…🤣

I flew 9/11 and the machines must have had the sensitivity turned up. Could not make it through the metal detector without setting it off. That now makes sense as I forgot about my 2 plates and screws. Hadn't been an issue in the past but 9/11 it sure was.

I've flown 4 or 5 times with metal in my foot and a Ti knee. Never had a problem. The only time it was a problem was at the courthouse but it wasn't enough to get out of jury duty.

Apparently Barry Sheene - Ex multi World Champion Road Racer had so much metal in him (legs) he used to carry X-Rays with him to explain at the Airport Security machines. (Way pre 9/11)

I was shocked to see so much hardware in two relatively small but important bones. The quality of his physical therapy will be crucially important over the coming months to him regaining his range of motion and strength back. Fingers crossed for a good outcome so he can give all these wishful thinking 2027 SX title contenders a proper smack down.
