"Why you think it would be different in Iran"

Iraq has flat open terrain, making fast overland travel possible, enabling the US's "left hook" which out maneuver the Iraqi army. Iran has mountainous terrain, restricting possible routes, reducing maneuverability, which makes it ideal for ambushing advancing troops.

The US "owned the night" during the Iraq war, Iran has night vision sourced from China and Russia.

Iraq had little intelligence on US troop positions, and few ways to target them, Iran has it's own satellites, access to Chinese and Russian intel and has shown they can target them with drones and missiles.

During the Iraq war Abrams tanks were superior to Iraqi tanks, but vulnerable to RPGs and IEDs, the Ukraine war has shown Abrams tanks are also vulnerable to drone attacks.

I could go on, but I doubt you care, hooah.

Can't remember who it was, but some "expert" went on a rant some weeks ago about "air superiority" and what a fake concept it  This was...

Can't remember who it was, but some "expert" went on a rant some weeks ago about "air superiority" and what a fake concept it  This was some "leading journalist" which tells you the level of awareness and knowledge the fools on TV possess.

Like YOU, bogan.

In short, the side that has air superiority calls the shots. Many, MANY examples in history going back to WW1,

Probably THE most vicious example was the "Falaise Pocket" after the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944. Read up on it, the USAAF and RAF had absolute control of the skies, and slaughtered the retreating German armies in the area of Falaise. Horrific to read about, I'm not going to regurgitate any statistics or stories. Look it up.

Same with D-Day itself, the Allied air forces kept the Luftwaffe away from the kanding beaches, if I remember right the Luftwaffe flew two? sorties over the beaches all day.  Or only two got back, rather -- everything else was shot won. Again, look it up, I'm talking off my top of my head....not out my ass 🤣

Like that TV muppet, YOU -- yes YOU,  bogan -- clearly understand or know FUCKALL about anything military.

Your U-boob talking points are valid to some extent,  but do you clearly don't understand that there's two sides to the story. The same terrain that will impede an attacking force in Iran, will bog down the defenders, especially when the attacker has air superiority.

Drones? Yes, definitely a factor.... for one or two rounds. When a large air force loiters overhead 24/7, you'll only get off 2 or 3 drones before they locate you and wipe you out.

Yes, drones have changed tactics like tank attacks, even infantry, but it's still a technology war, and guess which side dominates that?

Iran has only 3 or 4 ports to import ANYTHING. No planes in and out with US air superiority, the mountainous terrain make railways impossible and/or extremely vulnerable. The what? 1/3? 2/3? (look it up) of their FOOD they can't produce and must import, is a critical choke point.

Point being, a sophisticated military that is serious about fucking Iran up, will have little difficulty in shutting the country down.

While blowing up rocket launchers and patrol boats make for great TV clips, destroying power stations and desal plants and Kharg island -- and all the huge bridges, needed to traverse the same mountainous terrain -- is the way you shut Iran down in a month flat.

Trump and The Gang don't seem very serious about doing that, so.... lots of pyrotechnics  and, of course, BLABLABLABLABLABLA....

Sometimes, "making a fantastic deal" is not the way to go. If Trump was serious about this "war' it would have been over months ago. And he wouldn't blab on TV about what the US military is going to do next.

For the record --  everyday Iranians aren't the enemy, it's the goatfuckers who run the place --  IRGC. and Co.

According to the Pentagon, "Air Superiority" was achieved 6 months ago...

It has not stopped Iranian drones, ballistic missiles, or fast attack boats hitting targets.

The amount of missiles, drones, and fast attack boats has been decimated. Air superiority doesn't mean zero enemy air activity. They are able to launch a few here or there but  as an offensive force they are done. Of course a few will get through but overall the number of attacks have been minimal compared to the beginning of the war. This is obvious, i'm not sure why you would make a statement that is so wildly misleading. The  attacks will not stop completely until the country capitulates. I  would expect this will all be over in the next 6 months.

These misleading statements you are making are the tactics Fox, CNN and MSNBC use.

All of things you have stated have already been considered by the US military. With the US military recognizing what you have brought up as well as things you have not, the military would make the necessary changes to tactics to nullify any perceived advantage the Iranians nay have. If the American military needed to wage a ground campaign they would absolutely crush the Iranians. The Americans have complete and unopposed control of the air. Try to move troops or armor without any air support. Like I said, they will be crushed.

You seem to be hoping for a quagmire for the US troops. Do you in fact support the current murderous regime in Iran, Sure seems like it.

Regardless, there will be no ground campaign, it will not be necessary. The Iranian regime will collapse upon itself.

I don't hope for a quagmire for US troops, I hope the US walks away from this, and lets the Iranian people decide their own fate, without outside interference.

Why do you believe that the Iranian citizens can rise up and remove the current murderous regime? The citizens in Iran have made it clear they want freedom and removal of the current regime. Unfortunately, the last time the citizens rose up, unsupported by outside influence, the Iranian regime murdered an estimated 30 to 40 thousand of it's own citizens.  The Iranian citizens want this opportunity for freedom and prosperity just as the Venezulan citizens wanted the help. Damn shame the rest of the world will not join and support President Trump in trying to make the world a better place for people. Hard to understand how people like you will not support freedom for the Iranian people and the end of the Iranian regime. The biggest supporter of terrorism in the world.

That is exactly what you are doing with your ridiculous position, supporting the continuing terrorist regime in Iran. It appears you would have stood by and allowed or even supported Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb. Do you hate the US and lsrael that much that you would have been OK with Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb?

General question:  under what terms & conditions would this campaign be labeled a success?  Gantry’s post suggests nothing less than an overthrow of the regime. Others only want agreements to contain nuclear development, regardless of who is in charge.  I’m curious what the contributors to this post think in regards to a successful outcome.

Removing Iran's legitimacy behind mass-casualty threats against the US and it's allies. Not just short-term for the next administration to deal with, but long-term. To be clear though, the expectation is not utopia in the Middle East.

Thanks for the input. If you would, please define “mass casualty” so we understand the scope of the threat.

Your question would have to be for the proponents of this war. For those of us that were and are against it, that is the point. There is no way to label this a success. That's why I am against it. Trump went into this thinking we drop a few bombs, shoot a few people and Iran would curl up in to a fetal position like Venezuela did. That does not appear to be happening and no serious person ever thought it would. The only way this works out now is for the Iranian people to finish what we started. Had we backed them when Trump promised we would, it might have happened then. I would have been all for that. So Sorry, LL, I have no answers for your question.

Depends on whose yardstick we're using. To that core group where he can do no wrong, then it's all wins all around. To everyone else, we've been losing for decades of varying degrees.

'Trump went into this thinking we drop a few bombs, shoot a few people and Iran would curl up in to a fetal position like Venezuela did."

He did? That's what he was thinking? How do you now what he was  thinking?  Actually he was quite clear that his objective was to destroy Iran's ability to manufacture a nuclear weapon.

"There is no way to label this a success." it is already a success. The ability for Iran to manufacture a nuclear weapon has been severely curtailed. The mass amount of their rockets have been destroyed. They have lost most of the support or tolerance they once had with the rest of the middle east nations. They are being squeezed so tight they no longer have the financial ability to support their terror proxies Hamas, the Houthis, Hezbollah, etc. The iranian nation is heading for total collapse, what a great day that will be for America, Israel, and the world. Within 6 months this thing is over.

"Had we backed them when Trump promised we would, it might have happened then. I would have been all for that."

I don't believe you would have backed President Trump then, now, or in the future.

Yet, ships are still stuck in the strait ….
One of two things. This will either continue to drag out or, we’ll look like the liberators who abandoned the Iranian citizens much like we did in Afghanistan after pulling out.

One of two things? You forgot the other option (among many) The Iranian regime collapse's due to the military and economic onslaught they are currently experiencing due to President Trump and Secretary Bessent. Iran has no money, 6 months this thing is over.

These are all the same things they said about Iraq. The US military went in and crushed them with little loss. Why you think it would be different in Iran, that is far weaker than Iraq was at the time, doesn't make sense. It's obvious you hate America but one thing you can't argue with is America's military being astonishingly powerful and well run.

Secreary Hegseth has done a great job getting the military back to their primary goal of being a fighting force. We don't need social experiments in the military, the military exist for one purpose only.

At some point the USA leadership will say, hey it's over,  we won, claim a success. And the next thing will take over the news and tax payer money will start being diverted somewhere else in a few months, and the masses will mostly forget we were ever at war with Iran.

Depending on polling and gas prices, that victory day will either happen in a month or not for a long time.

Seriously? You don't understand the scope of the threat? They have been chanting death to America and Israel for almost 50 years. They have also made it very clear their want to manufacture nuclear weapons with which they can threaten the world. It's not too difficult to put that one together. I don't know how many people die due to the explosion of a 15 kiloton nuclear device. What was the death toll in Hiroshima? Is that mass casualty enough for you? Maybe we should not have bombed them, let them continue on their merry path until they also have access to ICBM's.

They needed to be stopped, President Trump was the only person man enough to do something about it until it was too late. Much like North Korea.

I'm on board with that when Israel agrees to the same nuclear inspections as Iran and scraps their Samson Option. Israel needs to play by the same rules as everyone else. A vast majority of the planet is sick of their never ending victim mentality projected by their Zionist leaders. There are millions of Jews who are against everything Netanyahu, Gvir, and the other psycho Zionists are wanting to do. A lot of them live here in the USA as well as Israel. Nearly everything our media on both sides says is a lie. We've Obama and the whole Smith Mundt act thing to thank for the never ending propaganda.

Removing Iran's legitimacy behind mass-casualty threats against the US and it's allies. Not just short-term for the next administration to deal with, but long-term. To be clear though, the expectation is not utopia in the Middle East.

Snag some transcripts from the Talmud. It's pretty frightening shit.

Research the Samson Option. It's literally Israel's version of what you're saying Iran will do. Why do they get a free pass to do whatever they want? Because of the Holocaust? Well gosh danged if that's the case then I am 100% for reparations for blacks in America for slavery.

It also won't be long before they drag us into conflict with Turkey. What ya think diesel will hit? $15/gal?

You’re saying another  six months

General question:  under what terms & conditions would this campaign be labeled a success?  Gantry’s post suggests nothing less than an overthrow of the regime. Others only want agreements to contain nuclear development, regardless of who is in charge.  I’m curious what the contributors to this post think in regards to a successful outcome.

Nobody knows what anybody is thinking unless you claim to be clairvoyant and I don't.  Also what the objective is and how you plan to attain it are two different things.

"it is already a success."

Attacking their nuke sites does not mean destroyed. Unless you take their word for it. If you do then there was no need to destroy it again because, according to Trump, we already did that in June of 25.

"I don't believe you would have backed President Trump then, now, or in the future."

Apparently you do claim to be clairvoyant. You have no clue what I would or would not back. I also noticed that you chose to sidestep instead of addressing my statement.

I don't have an exact number, but I wouldn't limit it to just nukes, based on them making their threats very clear.

To me, having the ability to drop those long range missiles on "The West" as they call it, is unacceptable. Compound this with using their missile inventory to shield the nuclear program's development and I am good with the preemptive action.

Has it gone perfectly or exactly as Trump hoped? No. Is it a disaster and a lost war for the US? Not even close.

You're working on the assumption that Iran and Israel share the exact same relationship with the US. Why do you expect to be taken seriously on foreign affairs when you can't understand something so obvious?

I’ll admit. I have buyers remorse when it comes down to my vote. The other option wasn’t an option.  I wish there was a lemon law for this type of shit.

I held out as long as I could.

It makes me laugh, we’re bringing Iran to its knees.
This’ll be over in a couple weeks.
Gas prices are going to drop.

Gas is high AF.
Deployments have been extended.
The Navy “may or, may not” be providing security to oil tankers.

Meh…. Enough politics for me for the day. Gonna watch the world burn while fishing. Have a good week…
