Last time I was buying BFG's for my old celica gts (an oddball 60 series 13" size) I had to buy two from one supplier, and one each from two separate suppliers, as the size, along with many others were discontinued.
The tyre shop who scrounged around for those told me Michelin had shut down factories here in the states.
I guess they meant "some" factories.
You’re not wrong. LA, Denver, New York etc etc have a problem, let’s make a law for them and expect everyone to follow law. Legislate at lowest level possible, that’s the founding father’s intent.
Last time I went to California, I had to throw away half my food that I brought with me. Almost felt like I was at the border. Beautiful state and great people, just weird laws….

Indeed, paid a lot more at the grocery store in California to replace 😣 I can only imagine the hoops for watercraft. I’ll say camping in Red Wood forests was amazing, and well worth it.

There are exceptions for all the tires that anybody on here is worried about. Its more for the average tire that people are putting on their Tesla, or minivans that don't really care about anything but them being round and that they can drove on them. The exception list is long
The law defines a large off road tire as.
Other exempt tires
That last one could apply to all terrain tires, mud tires , the snow or all weather exception could also apply to all terrains
So in other words, if You want a special tire you can still get it. And the law pretty much changes what will be offered to the people who don't care what they are buying.
I looked quickly and Dunlop and Goodyear were manufacturers that they talked to that expressed concerns over the proposed regulations.
Members of the USTMA ( Us tire manufacturers association ) were also involved and a part of the discussions. Non of them endorse or expressed concerns as far as I found. he list below are the brands that are members of the USTMA
Bridgestone
The law goes into effect in 2033 , and I would be willing to bet that the tire manufacturers are behind the law as much as the California government is. They know they can make more money off the new tires and it equals competition out between brands by having certain standards . It filters out the cheap tires made by brands who do not go through the process of being certified and may help eliminate smaller brands by making it cost more to sell in that market.
I bet this has as much to do with an influx of cheap Chinese tires as it does with emissions. Legacy brands seeing a hit to their sales and lobbying to protect their place in the market , and just like the bike brands in the AMA they lobby for laws that give them some sort of advantage. Regulating the segment of the markets that a no name cheap Chinese tire would have the best chances at selling well. The people who buy tires based off price alone. That is my opinion after reading through some of the actual details.
The sheer shortsightedness of this administration is astounding. That, or the Marie Antionette Attitude is in full effect.
I am going to buy the exact tire I want, based on all the factors that are important to me. If those tires are not sold in California, then I will buy them elsewhere, and, unfortunately, contribute to the further erosion of business success for yet another industry in this state. Newscum cannot possibly think that this law is going to help anything; he simply wants to erect another barrier to free travel in California. If the tire industry here goes out of business, so much the better as far as he's concerned. The vile, bilious hatred he harbors for automobiles is unbelievable.
Freightliner trucks and my motorhome are made right by the factory so it might have something to do with that.
It could be that Cars and pickups tires are smaller and lighter so maybe those are made overseas and shipped here in bulk?
From what I researched after your post, all of their tyres sold in the American market are manufactured here.

Will do! I told wife, next trip dirt bikes are coming with. We took mountain bikes and I’ve never ridden such tacky, loam with perfect amount of moisture before. Such a drastic change from blue groove, loose, rocky trails around here.

TBH, I've read that the law is aimed at manufacturers and retailers; they won't be stopping people to inspect their tires. And, many people will be content to drive tires that meet the same OEM specifications, anyway. It only sucks for those of us who want performance tires on some of our vehicles.
