The Boys on Moto60 - Their Take on MXdN

8/28/2026 9:21am

i've said it in other threads: the MXDN is doomed in its current model.

As soon as our top riders like Deegs say "No thanks" AND their teams back them up....the other dominoes will fall and other riders will opt out as well. As cool of a concept as it is, the logistics are ridiculous when its overseas and our riders race sooooo much, I don't blame many for bailing.

The shitty part, however, is those same riders will be jockeying to race it when it's here in the States. Regardless, something has to change.

It's all about the marketing. Wrapping himself in the flag when it suits him and running from it when it doesn't.  The 38 is the fastest American rider currently healthy and ready and he's being a little bitch, and not for the first time. Go team USA, Coop, Chance, and Levi, guys who are proud to be from the US of A.

The biggest takeaway I got from that which nobody is talking about is what Zach said...He got $2500 for his expenses from the AMA and he spent $25k of his own money.....that is a huge red flag full on failure of the AMA and those in charge of Team USA....there is no way a rider should have to spend $25K. The AMA, the industry and the manufacturers need to either make changes to raising money so no rider has to come out of pocket to go...This team is a complete failure and I would rather we just stop going than go through this every fucking year since 2014. I would like to know how much other riders from other countries are paying out of pocket for this race...my guess would be close to zero...The AMA only gave Zacho $2500...Seriously WTF?

While $2500 is low for one riders expenses, you're casually omitting that the bulk of that 25k went to bringing his family over for a working vacation. No entity should be covering a riders expenses other than getting them to the event, lodging for the event, and equipment costs. Wanna take your whole family and some friends, that's on you.

As I understand it, $25K is for the bike and support crew per rider. Go listen to JT$ on the issue in the Iron-man thread, he lays it out pretty well.

I believe the riders expense is on the rider's dime less whatever they get from the AMA.

Something I find interesting is this: Nowadays the promoter makes a fucking bag of cash on this race...and all the while....the riders/teams/participants and EVEN THE SPECTATORS are shelling out more $$$ than ever to attend...

Isn't that interesting?

Do you know that for a fact? He didn't say it was for his family....regardless no rider should have to come out of pocket and  $2500 is a pittance and insulting to a professional athlete. it's a complete failure of the AMA et al... how many in the AMA entourage need to go to this race? Time to cut the fat...but if you're ok with the current system that has been failing for years to put together the best team then I guess we can expect this same shit every year....the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.....somethings gotta change is all I'm saying because the way we are doing it isn't working...I'd rather we not go than to go through the exact same shit every year...

"Do you know that for a fact?"

You can't say the word, 'fact' around Deegan haters.  They don't know what that word means. The Deegan hater just makes things up, speculates, and then makes more things up.  If they repeat it enough, then they pass if off as fact.  The word most of us use is delusional.

Neither here nor there, I am of the opinion that our riders should just tell the event to F.O.A.D. until it's worth it for the teams to attend. The fact that a mountain of money is being made by InFront every year on this event without compensation to offset team/rider costs is criminal.

We should just stop going until things change. Period.

Random thought/Question...

Average NBA salary is $10-12m per year (google said so). Number of Games in an NBA season is 82 (google also said so)...and I would guess most players aren't able to play in all the games.

So when the Olympics come around and an NBA player declines the offer to represent Team USA, are they hated as well? A POS? It's just 1 event (with weeks of lead time in preparation, travel, etc).

Deegan is a successful grown ass man who has a 10yr (on average) window to max out a career...4 of which are basically complete.

Why the hate if he chooses to be selective with his racing time? What if he donates time/energy/money to foundations/kids/families in need instead? Is he still an overall POS? Or is he just a POS because he doesn't want to race an event that may not mean much to him.

Ever got called into work on a Saturday because "the team needs you" and you decline to protect your peace and use the weekend to do things that make you happy (or rest/relaxation)? How did it feel knowing you had the option of putting yourself first? Probably pretty good with a hint of guilt...but the good outweighed the bad.

Having said all that... I hope Hunter wins by 30 seconds each moto and parties like a rock star.

....incoming fire in 3......2...........1.........

nba in specific is more politics bullshit with who gets on the USA team , like how Nike & the powers at be stopped Jaylen brown from being on team USA back in 2024 , the past couple team USA’s just been a popularity contest with who the sponsors like  & not actually on who was playing the best brand of basketball during tht season , if anything the fans outrage is more with the players getting treated like shit by Nike etc…..

It's funny when people start talking basketball when they are clueless. Look at the anger and hatred players in real bball nations get when they don't show up for their world cup qualifiers. Almost all French players were there playing against Belgium in the beginning of July.

The people on here don't want to have a real conversation about why MXoN is a mess and why US riders and teams don't want to go. They just want to rage about the deegans.

I've never seen more soft people in a fandom in my life like it is when people start talking about Deegan. He makes grown men act like whiny teenage girls.

The hysteria takes over any critical thinking and just snowballs into page after page of crying.

wah wah wah infront makes too much money from this race is such a dumb take.

Good businesses make profit. They have the rights to mxdn they should make as much money as they can. No reason for them to shoot them selves in the foot.

if you want anyone to pony up the money it should be the teams and sponsors. Fuck asking fans to pay for it through ticket sales or raise it 4 USA.

Prado would be ahead of deegan in points if he didn’t have his DNF. I think we can all agree Prado has showed more top speed than deegan.

This is not accurate. Prado is currently 25 points behind Deegan. Prado was NOT leading at Hangtown when his bike let go and he DNF. He was in 4th and would have earned 18 points. So even if he hadn’t had that DNF, he would still be 7 points behind.

I don’t think fans should be responsible for funding the mxdn team. Between teams and sponsors and the AMA they should be able to raise enough to cover the costs.

I like watching some Olympic events. I’m not giving them money either.

I dont begrudge a rider for not going. I will begrudge a rider that drapes himself in the American flag on the podium and stokes the patriotism flames refusing to go without show up $ and hiding behind his team. It’s been this way forever. There is no way Deegan was ignorant to that fact.

Funny how his national pride disappears when he’s not getting paid for it.

DonM Logic: If you're not willing to represent your country what right do you have to waive the flag every time you "NOT WIN" but finish on the podium, racing your own national American championship.

PS: I've bought multiple times merch to help the Belgian team race the MXdN, don't see the damn problem.

I used to be on the side of "we should expect the riders to step up" but after going to Ironman MXoN last year and seeing how much money is being made on this event and knowing they expect professional athletes to show up for no money I flipped. It's the biggest money maker by far in this sport over a single weekend.

My logic is very simple....no rider should have to come out of pocket to race the MXDN period....the rest of your post is nothing but your own emotional issues....by the way I'm still waiting on your links to the US media bullshit you posted in another thread....

I used to be on the side of "we should expect the riders to step up" but after going to Ironman MXoN last year and seeing how much money is being made on this event and knowing they expect professional athletes to show up for no money I flipped. It's the biggest money maker by far in this sport over a single weekend.

Can anyone actually show any evidence of what is net profited from this event? Or is it all just hearsay for folks to shout like the town cryer?

From afar a lot of businesses look like they are making money hand over fist, but once you have the full picture and open up the books you realize how thin the margins actually are.

Exactly Deegan isn't the cause of why Team USA hasn't been able to send their best team since 2014....he is the result of the failure of the AMA to raise enough to send the best team....and the greed of a promoter on probably the most profitable race of the year...Something has to give and I'm 100% behind the fuckit don't go to create change approach...

Really?....poor poor Infront the struggle must be real....a race weekend with 30K fans is very profitable, just listen to Alex Martin on pulp discuss it and how it works.....but a race with double the fans and higher ticket prices that the local promoter has to pay a $600k fee to infront to hold doesn't make enough to help defer some costs....come on man....but I get it why would they if everyone shows up for free...because of that we get a B/C Australian team, A US C Team, No New Zealand team....I'm sure that picture would be different if just travel expenses were covered...

Again it’s just speculation and a bunch of bs.

how much is an acceptable figure for them to profit? How much do you want them to contribute?

according to you all they are making boatloads even with b and C teams going. Why would they cut into those profits?  If they are paying show up money do they get any say in who’s on the team?

This is not accurate. Prado is currently 25 points behind Deegan. Prado was NOT leading at Hangtown when his bike let go and he DNF. He was in 4th and would have earned 18 points. So even if he hadn’t had that DNF, he would still be 7 points behind.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story. This thread isn't about MXON, it's about talking shit on Deegan and a place for HerrBitch to post creepy pics of his lover Brian Deegan.

i've said it in other threads: the MXDN is doomed in its current model.

He isn’t saying no thanks for the event itself, he is scared and chickens out just like other years. Patriot my *ss. Would have loved to see the old dogs like Herlings and Febvre wipe the floor with him.

You mean the Renthal guy has no bias against the team that uses Pro-Taper?

I believe I remember Sexton saying a year or two back that he believes if you're selected and don't go, you should be out of the running the following year. Although I don't fully agree because sometimes things do come up, but at this point Deegan has found his way out of it multiple years in a row for one reason or another. At this point, I think the ship has sailed, he should not even be in consideration for the foreseeable future. These teams bend over backwards for their 'A' guy, if Deegan wanted to go, he would be there. If he does not want to go, that is totally fine, but don't make some lame excuse.

Neither here nor there, I am of the opinion that our riders should just tell the event to F.O.A.D. until it's worth it for the teams to attend. The fact that a mountain of money is being made by InFront every year on this event without compensation to offset team/rider costs is criminal.

We should just stop going until things change. Period.

On this we agree.

So a return flight to Europe and a week’s accommodation cost $25K?  Wow…

I don’t know if the Aussie riders are dipping into their own pockets but I can say with a high degree of certainty that if they are it ain’t to the tune of $25K.

I'm not sure as Zach said he got $2500 from the AMA and he spent $25k on top of that....now was some of that for his family expense? I don't know, but what I do know is the AMA only giving him $2500 for his expenses is a complete failure. I'm just sick and tired of Team USA ending up in the same position every year and yet nothing ever changes or improve and they act like nothings wrong....

This right here. The AMA has no obligation to fly your parents, your sister, and your man friends to Europe on a private jet.

Zacho wasn't complaining though. He even said something along the lines of trim the fat. Take your, your mechanic, the bike and go. He wasn't complaining that he had to spend $25k. But he did say pay your own way if you had to. Just go represent the country if you get the call.

Australia sending a B team has zero to do with money; stop conflating those two things.

Maybe ask yourself why such a massive difference in the nature of the responses to the Lawrences not going this year vs Deegan.

I think Zach is refering to 2019 mxon when they spent 3 weeks in holland/belgium to prepare. Team fried has it all on youtube. Probably adds up when you bring your whole family and mabye a mechanic, vlogger on top of that. Oh and Justin Cooper also went a week or two prior to the race for star yamaha....

They could have just stayed home like diaperboy but went there to represent their country the best they could.
