Yamaha side-by-side are still going to be built, but they’re gonna be built under our licensing agreement. I was just wondering how that might affect the dirt bike side of things eventually. Will Yamaha go this route with their dirt bikes also?
$50k+, to be financed by your local alcholic at 25% interest. He will take it to all the areas he shouldn't, throw his beer bottles all over, get it stuck and make massive holes, and rip through your neighborhood at 2am going 70mph listening to shitty music cranked to the max.
They have gotten so many riding areas closed recently it makes me sick. Every single track MTB or Moto trail in my area has been molested by these dumb fucks, they mow down vegetation until they get stuck. Leave massive holes from getting stuck, and they usually break their beer bottles at that spot to cap it off.
And IMO, they are the reason all these big dealership chains have taken over the dealership market. Huge price tags, uninformed buyers who will finance the rig, wheels/tires exhaust, etc. at high-interest rates and they don't think twice. Many dealers look at dirt bikes as an inconvenience.
Fuck SxS's, a cancer to the off-road community.

I live near one of the largest ohv areas around. Windrock ohv park.
SxS's rut up, and destroy beautiful wooded trails faster than the maintenance crew can repair the trailbeds. Then it rains making it worse.
They create mud holes, then make it worse by creating ride arounds, which turn into mud holes.
Ruining the easier/moderate trails a lot of us pay to ride.
There's been a lot of talk online about this, but they're outnumbering the daily driver offroad community. So nothing will be done.
$50,000 starting price? I can buy a Tacoma for that kind of cabbage.
It's crazy to see used ones going for $35-40,000+.
But at the same time, a friend just dropped $90,000 for a new lexus GX (land cruiser). Never to see one mile of offroad use.
My guess is that with the new Arctic Cat ownership a deal with Cat to have them produce the Rmax etc... will go down now that Textron is gone.
Arctic Cat was contract building Yamaha sleds in Thief River Falls until Yamaha pulled the plug completely (because Textron needed to stick to military sales and had no business sense for powersports).
For those keeping track at home, Cat used to use Suzuki engines, and contract built Kawasaki sleds way back when.
Cat is still using Yamaha engines in their four strokes.
Whatever was the highest HP RZR 4 seater in 2021, my brother in law bought. They had just moved to Eastern Washington from Bellevue and he was going to use the thing daily on the local roads (you can license those things there for up to 45 MPH roads or something like that). He got the machine, then had a bunch of accessories added like the sliding cooler in the rear, the Mac Daddy audio system, upgraded tires and wheels, etc. Probably another $7-$10K after he paid full sticker for the buggy.
I think he drove it 4, maybe 5 times. Only 2 of those were on forest fire roads if I recall, probably about 10-15 miles off road total and another 20-25 running around on the street.
Sold it for half what he had in it less than 24 months later.
During that same time period he bought a brand new Sea Ray boat, not a small one either. It was just about $165K. First boat he ever had, had to get 'lessons' to drive it. Also spent something like $70K on a 'condo style' marina slip.
Again, sold it after just under 24 months later. Boat depreciation is incredible.

They are literally a way of life around here. If you live rural then its like having another car....with 200hp and 18" of clearance. I paid cash for mine and have never once drank alcohol and drove it. I have bikes for single track, quad for 50" and UTV for full width. I love it all.
They moved down to Temecula. That’s why they sold the RZR and the Sea Ray. He’s married to my wife’s twin sister and he just retired about a year ago from Meta after working at what seems like all the bigger tech companies. Way back when he joined Meta, he got a signing bonus of about $500K, so they live in a completely different financial reality than my wife and I do!
What part of E WA? They were living in Manson on Lake Chelan. They thought they would enjoy the slower lifestyle, but they really weren’t made for it.
I hate SXS's with a passion...they are getting so many riding areas closed...plus, every single track trail around here is gradually turned into a road because some lazy moron in a sxs with 35 inch tires and 24 inches of travel sees it and decides to drive up it...then the rest of the sheep see his tracks and follow him...the fire roads in the mountains around here are getting so whooped out that many aren't even passable in anything but a high clearance 4x4 these days. I hate them...
I pretty much oppose restrictions on public land...but I'd be fine if SXS's were only allowed on public land in sand dunes and private property...they are ruining everything else.

I hate SxS as much as the next guy. They've ruined alot of areas I loved. However, and hate me all you want, based on my experience......MTB dicks are the worst. The arrogance is beyond belief. Growing up in Westen WA the environmentalists closed down miles upon miles of single track I grew up riding on, only to turn it into a MTB/ hiking park. On one of our favorite riding spots (state/public land) the MTB's took over. Put fishing line across the trails WE had built and saw my buddy get close-lined right off his bike. Or, during hunting season, late October Im sitting at my blind and three assholes come screaming and yahoo'ing down a game trail on their bikes. No hunter orange or regards for the others in the woods. Again, as much as I cant stand the SxS, the MTB's are a close fucking tie.
3 major mt bike trail systems, around here, were long time hunting areas.
Bikes, hikers, and horseback riders, are not allowed during deer, and turkey hunting season.
All access points are well signed, and the local cycling pages, and shops make it well known.
Then after the season is over, groups go in and bring out bags, and bags, of trash left behind. Mostly beer cans, plastic liquor bottles, chip bags, etc...
Both groups have their asshole elements.

I have a place in Spokane county and one around Chewelah. I love it here...there's barely any population and you can still pretty much do as you please. My only issue is fire. Both of my properties are wooded and I no longer want to be in the woods. Thinking about selling and buying land down in the valley and another on the coast, so we escape the heat and smoke.

Pretty rough (smoke) coming from the westside to Spokane yesterday. There's lots of It was brutal around Vantage, we almost turned around. Was not as bad just south of Spokane in comparison. That area got hit hard, tough seeing the news reports.

I have a "SxS" that I use for off-roading and even some race-chase in Baja & Nevada.
It's called a Ford Bronco and I have less $ in it than most of the actual "SxS" people I know.

The one thing I'll say about the ones around here is, most carry big, heavy duty trash bags on the back of their rigs.
Rarely do I see trash on our local trails.
They do come from all up and down the east coast, bringing money into the area.
Lots of it.
Lots of small diners, repair shops, parts and equipment stores, gas stations, etc... have popped up in the past decade.
As well as a big increase in cabin construction for weekend rentals.
And full hotels in the neighboring town of oakridge.
If banning SXS's from public land (except-maybe-Sand Dunes) will keep the lazy a-holes from getting my trails closed and/or turning my single track into a road and ruining every other trail and fire road...I'll support it.
The problem is that you'll never talk to one of those lazy a-holes...its always the "other guy"...so ban 'em all.
The manufacturers and dealers need to get on board with educating their customers...otherwise the government will do it by continuing to close riding areas...SXS's are a the enviro-nazi's (the Sierra Club, SUWA, Wilderness Society, etc. etc.) wet dream...they provide endless ammo to show land managers about the damaged caused by ALL OHOV's, to get riding areas closed.
When I was moving back to the NW, I made 2 driving trips from Dallas and drove through Moab both times. The first drive north I stayed the night in Moab and got back on the road by 7AM. I swear I felt like 90% of all the SxSs sold in the last decade were already being trailered out to the driving trails by everyone within a 100 mile radius. Old Chrysler minivans were trailering them. F450s trailering 5 of them. It was crazy how many were already out on the roads, and the town seemed full of loaded trailers that were still parked, too!
Yep, I agree with all of this. I can't stand them either. The majority of the squids that buy them are posers!
Been riding long enough that I've had incidents with three wheelers, then it was quads, and now a close call from a side by side. And I ride cautiously around blind trails.
It also sucks to see former motorcycle shops stocked to the gills with side by sides. 🤬
