I could see gas spray out when the second bike hit Cole's. After that crash it was only a matter of time until he ran out.
I had no idea. It’s kinda of an unusual thing to happen.

Does anyone know how Davies got the gate he did in the second moto. I would think someone on Star had to give it up for him but I thought you couldn’t switch gates either.
Yeah strange , never seen that before.
Freakin bad luck
Bobby probably went up to every privateer on the line and offered up a free bike if they would cough up their spot....... Complete joke in all honesty, but I would not put it past him.
Came here to ask this question.
Spill the beans whoever was there and watched second moto gate picks today please, we need answers.
A free bike? All he'd need to offer them is a free meal and they'd cough up their spot...
The rut out of that gate wasn’t great. He did well to make good use of it though.
Based on what MX Sports purse money is for some of these guys, you may very well be correct. Pathetic what these privateers take home after a weekend of busting their asses. Willing to bet the powers that be aren't grilling whatever was on sale over a Coleman after their long weekend........ So sad.
And this is why you dont run Carbon tanks. Just like Titanium for exhausts, it doesnt last and is prone to failure.
I have never seen a plastic or Aluminium tank fail.
We ran them back in 2010 and they leaked or wept 50% of the time.
Plastic or aluminium not failing - Remember the awkward crash in supercross where AP ran into fallen Sexton who's tank leaked - was an aluminium tank.
Also havr had plenty of troubles with KTM and Husky tanks leaksing near the fuelpump area.
There is no impact proof material you could use in motocross and say it won't break. If there is a way to break it, then someone will find a way to destroy it if given enough time.
I had never seen a split in half brake cylinder assy which separated from both sides of the disc and melted around the rear hub, so we had to throw away a lot of stuff.
Wonder if Carson Wood is on sandwich duty at the farm this week 😂
You CAN break anything if you try hard enough, but in 52 years i have never had an issue with plastic or metal tanks, but have had 3 carbon ones and they were all problematic.
In Motorsport applications, Carbon tanks have to have an approved liner (which is lifed) and explosafe foam inserts in them, but MX seems to not bother. By the time you fit the liner it would be heavier than what its replacing.
Yeah, never broke a tank or remember a friend breaking their tank in all my years. What a mfer that is for Cole
We all love the carbon fibers but on a gas tank seems like overkill….the real question is …..will they continue to run it, now that it has cost valuable points…..I was in a first turn pileup back in 87 on an RM250…dudes handlebar end poked a big hole in my plastic tank…..I remember the oem tank costing big $ back then, no aftermarket options….I waited 2 weeks for a tank… I tried every kind of repair known at the time….nothing held….87 RM250…..what a POS…..
