Im in my 40s and my origonal birth certificate wasnt good enough . I had to go back to the town i was born and get a copy for $25. You can have one mailed Easy emough and then a trip to the local registry. Just a few hours or a day off work , depending on what kind of job you have.
Unfortunately there are people who can not afford to take the time out of work and or would not want to spend the extra time and money to do those things and they would end up not voting.
When one of of every 3 people in the us dosnt have access to an extra $400 for a surprise expense. I really do think that the cost and time it takes would factor in. Theres already millions of people who dont vote as easy as it is to do now.
The real id at $40 may not be a big barrier alone . You add on the likely 3 hours to a full day missed from work , ( keep in mind the lower paying jobs that people have dont have paid days off) cost of a copy of your birth cert if you were born in a small town and the origonal isnt good enough and even it adds to the cost and makes it more dificult.
Especially if all of a sudden its required. I would expect that would cause a backup in processing and impact people who did not start the process soon enough.
Im not saying that its a bad idea to make sure only citizens vote. But it will 100% stop some people from voting .
Remember that proof of citizenship is only required when registering to vote. Granted that proof might be a problem for some people but they would have to make accommodations in those cases. Birth records can be scarce for people my age but how many of those people are just now registering to vote? For younger people those records are much better kept. I have put in some time in researching non citizen voting and so far, it seems that it is a minuscule number and not even close to being able to sway an election for anything. However, the added hassle would certainly dissuade any kind of major effort to making it a big number. If some small number of citizens fall through the cracks and are not able to register, I really don't care. I'm on record here as an admitted voter suppressionist anyway. I'm not all that crazy about feeding into Trump's election delusions but aside from that, I don't really care if the bill passes or not.
Passport, drivers license, voting eligibility and employment eligibility should all be rolled into 1 article. Violators and enablers should be punished harshly with time served, not fines.

I just read through the bill. And it would require a photo ID that shows PROOF of CITIZENSHIP to VOTE. In person or mail. A photo ID that passes the standards of the real ID act of 2005. So either a passport or Real ID to be able to cast a vote in any federal election.
Not just for new voters registering, or re registering to vote, for voting at all in anyway. In person or absentee, a standard Drivers Lic. would not be accepted as valid ID.
If it passes as written, EVERYBODY who intends on voting in a FEDERAL election will need a Real ID or passport.
The way its being presented by Trump it sounds like You would only need a drivers lic. I suspect it would/will catch many voters off guard that think they are all set to vote being registered and having a Lic and being a US citizen . The way its being presented publicly by Trump seems like it would hurt Republicans the most . By misleading his voters into thinking they only need a drivers Lic. I don't understand why he would do this, he has also undermined the motivation to vote for him with his claims that Democrats are cheating.
If I truly believed an election was fixed, why would I waste time voting? If Democrats will win no matter who I vote for, why vote at all , is the message I hear when he talks about the cheating. If I want Democrats to win, well he's saying that they will win by cheating and do not need my vote. If I want Republicans to win, again why waste time casting a vote if Democrats are just going to steal the election? That tactic has always made me wonder what the real motive is. To me, if somebody is going to cheat to get more votes, wouldn't they just cheat to get enough more to win no matter how many votes the others got?
While I do think that people should educate themselves on who they are voting for and not just cast blind votes. I do feel like in a country that claims every vote counts, that even the people's votes who disagree with me , even if they have no idea why , should still count and their voice be heard.
I think the reason a regular license wouldn’t be acceptable any longer is because the states have issued drivers licenses to illegal non citizens. A passport or an enhanced drivers license weeds that out.
This is better than a plain clothes goon squad driving around in unmarked cars shooting people and terrorizing the streets.
Seems like the crime rate will go up doing that.
Sounds like we just need to be microchipped at birth and at naturalization ceremonies……
The killing US citizens would rise even more as illegals would remove their chip for themselves instead of going through the process that is intended to become a citizen.
I can understand confirming citizenship to register to vote. If the state You are voting in requires registration, You can not vote if You are not registered. I only found 1 state that did not require registering as of the last time I looked .
Requiring a Real ID/passport to register is just adding a barrier to voting. If the documents to get a real ID are good enough for proof to issue the real ID, and You can register to vote at the same place You get a real ID , why not allow them instead of the real ID or passport ? It only adds another step that adds time and money to the process . It seems simple enough, if a ballot is collected that doesn't have the correct voter ID number on it, reject the ballot. That's what has been happening . Any person that is registered to vote has a voter ID number. the ballot gets checked and counted if the person is registered and rejected if not.
Even if You have lived in the same town for the last 69 years and been registered since You were 18, You would need a Real ID or Passport to be able to vote in any federal election no matter how You cast the vote. That means Gramma in the nursing home is going for a trip to the DMV or not getting to vote , the same ID is required for mail in votes when they are allowed.
I think there should be exceptions , like you mention the elderly. This can be tweaked for sure. But the bottom line is that illegal /non-citizens need to be removed from voting in US elections. Don’t you at least agree with my last sentence?
Where is the proof that they have been voting?
Do you have proof they haven’t? If you really believe they haven’t do not respond back…….. Thank you for your participation though. 👍🏻
I have proof of shit.
But also haven't seen any that it has been happening. Proof of a positive action should be easier to come up with than proof of a negative.
If what you are saying is true than I would not want that to pass. I'll do a bit more reading.
If there's evidence as he says let's quit the blathering and see some perp walks . Otherwise stfu
Pit Row
Yah anybody that is not legally allowed to vote in a federal election should be removed.
As the law is, there would be no exceptions for anybody. Elderly, disabled . Still can vote from home, but still need the same ID. How does that work? send a photocopy of it in with the mail in vote?? How does that make sense? The temporary paper real ID that You get before the real one comes would not be valid to vote in person though. Hows that make sense?
The first Federal election held without any non citizens LEGALLY voting happened in 1928, 98 years . And has only been illegal federally since 1996 . Crazy to think the laws are so new.
I saw that just over 21 million voters were removed from the voter registration lists between the 2022 and 2024 elections. What year is Trump's claim about voters from? And did anybody read the proof he said they were putting out?
His good buddy Sean Hannity on Fox was very careful with what he was saying related to Trump's statements about the 2020 election. Making sure to not confirm or agree with any of the election claims Trump made. even seeming to fact check and call out a few things.
I've really spent too much time on this. I really should just stay away from these threads that do nothing but create more friction ad division. I did learn a lot.
Four, 220 million, same thing right?
You realize only 174 million people were registered to vote total and 154 Million people voted in the 2024 presidential election right? I was homeschooled so my math could be off a little.
But how would that work to have 46 million more people that are illegally registered than there are total people that are registered to vote?
I guess we do really have major problem if that's true.
Honestly BrotherMan , I don’t know all the numbers. I posted that to show that it does exist and any person being honest knows it’s a problem.
Do You wonder why Trump inflated the number to one that is not possible? At least not possible in the context of it being all at a single time. When I hear numbers that are not possible to be true and the argument that's being made is based on those numbers. I find myself doubting the majority of the argument when it lacks accompanying proof.
Charges are still not convictions. Trump has proven that they are willing to charge people for something rather than admit they screwed up. The reflecting pool is a great example of that. The video that shows a person reach into the pond for 25 seconds was the proof that somebody made a 350 foot long cut?
I doubt that there is anything in this world that is totally free of people trying to do something they shouldn't do. Do we know if this " fix" would stop more illegal or legal votes from being cast? Without numbers that are at least mathematically possible it's hard to say if the law would do more good or bad.
All 4 of those people have only been charged so far. And they denied having voted. All had green cards and had also applied to become a US citizen. So it's not really the same thing as illegal immigrants voting . Not legal what they did either but if that's the strongest example there is than its pretty weak and just makes me wonder what the true motivation is behind the law.
Your comments are fair. 👍🏻
I'm sorry , I don't mean to come at You and be an ass. I just think of the people that were in that Rahab and the assisted living place that had trouble getting help to take a shit without waiting 2 to 4 hours. And think about how many would likely end up losing yet another thing that helps them feel like they matter. I went shopping for my Mom's room mate to get some soda she liked because she didn't have anybody else that could get her a 12 pack of the soda she liked.
I just feel like from what I've seen many elderly would be discouraged from voting and it would be yet another thing they would lose. Maybe if I knew a real number that was not clearly made up, I might think the possibility of screwing over a large amount of people would be worth it . But as it is I would be against any changes to voting laws that would be so close to an election. It's only a little over 3 months until November. A change now would be clear to me that it's about something that is not entirely what it may seem on the surface.
I am unable to find where it says that voters will be required to prove citizenship at the polls. All I was able to find is proof required at registration. It's a moot point anyway. Murkowski is blocking it in the Senate. Not going to happen for now. Like I said, I don't much care if it passes or not.
Squatch, I consider you a friend here, friends can have different ideas about things and disagree, don’t worry about me. I don’t feel like you’re coming at me. We put topics up here , and once you post an opinion, we should expect someone or everyone might have a different take. You’ve always been respectful to me.👊🏻
I see the issue now. There are two acts. The SAVE act which does not require proof to vote and the Save America Act which does. The Save America Act I would not support but it doesn't matter. It's not going to pass anytime soon.
Doesn't exist?
We just had elections in Los Angeles and I saw the mayor's race that the top 2 were comfortably ahead and 1 ballot measure that was destined to be defeated and within 7 days flipped. My sales tax come Oct. 1 will go up to 11 3/4%. That's the HIGHEST sales tax in the country because of voting irregularities. I saw the mayors race do the same. The front runner (Karen Bass) and 2nd place (Spencer Pratt) stayed pretty level in the days after 6/2 but miraculously the 3rd place contestant surged and surpassed Spencer Pratt. Honest voting don't happen that way. I say Bull Shi% on the voter ID being complicated for many Americans. How did they used to vote 10 or 15 years ago? I used to have to show ID and proof of address. No one complained then.
My wife had to send in a new voter registration form when we got married. Let me tell you, that was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. I mean filling the registration form out and licking the envelope. It was pure pain. (sarcasm alert)
There is fraud happening, you just need to open your eyes to see it.
Bravo…👏
It really shouldn’t be $165 for a passport. With the amount of taxes we pay in the country they should be maybe $25 max. But hey at least we got some critical programs shutdown that kept an eye on stuff like the screwworm and this cyclops bacteria that makes ya nearly shit yourself to death.
