Well, FML…. Today I was pulling a commercial dishwasher apart. It had lines  going into this shit.
I had to pull the DW out as we’re doing demo. The lines were ran through the cabinet into this damn jug. I took the lid off went to pull the line out and, it uncoiled out of the jug and, splashed my eyebrow just above my safety glasses. It dropped down into my eye and, holy fuck. I sprinted to the sink. It had a mixing valve on it. Hot as fuck. Ran out to the van and, emptied six water bottles into my eye. I’ve taken a direct shot with OC spray on a dare once. This detergent, was at least 3X as bad.

One trip to urgent care and, out of work for the rest of the week.

I’m pissed. I told the safety guy who met me, I’m done fucking with chemicals. Get the damn people who set up the equipment with chemicals to deal with it.

I’m the second employee to get injured by this stuff in less than two weeks. The other guy was unknowingly kneeling in it and was severely burned. It ate through his pants and, the burns turned black after a few days.

You know, if you turn that sideways it looks about like the box the kids came in growing hair out of it.

Brake Cleaner while wearing contacts. That was absolutely god awful feeling. The contact trapped the brake cleaner underneath it, so I had to pull that off my eyeball and flushed the hell out of my eye. I should have went to the doctor, but meh. lol

I’ve melted multiple soft contact lenses splashing chemicals in my eyes. Also shot plenty of metal bits in my eyes. Just a life of making and fixing stuff

It’s swollen. My vision is still pretty blurry. The burning sensation on my eyelids has passed so, yeah. I’m doing a bit better. I see a specialist in the morning to assess the damage.

Well lucky for you, evolution has made our eyes one of the fastest healing organs.

Whoa hope it gets better. You don't wanna mess around with eyes that's for sure.

I unfortunately had Shingles when I was 26 that was very painful went in my eye and left a permanent scar on my cornea that screwed up my vision in the left eye.  When I wear my contact lenses, I have to use a special lens (soft/perm) that cost $300 each! The best vision I can get is 20/40 out of that eye.

My right eye just uses a normal, soft lens.

The added bummer is that lens is hypersensitive to dust and dirt, so I have to be real careful with goggles and can never ride without them.

I use goggles that cannot have porus foam. They're the sand goggles from Oakley and they work pretty good.

Faaawk Chance that looks like it hurts sorry bro. Hope it’s better tomorrow and there’s no blurriness or lingering effects. I gotten muriatic acid, diatomaceous earth, and dry and liquid chlorine in my eyes before. Liquid chlorine is the worst, my eye felt sandy and crunchy like there was grit in it. Luckily it only lasted 24 hours. Hope tomorrow brings a huge improvement.

Years back I was shot in the eye with an airsoft gun. Knocked me off my feet. Instantly couldn’t see. We taped it up, bought dark sunglasses and went to watch Millville the next day.

Went to the eye dr Monday morning and my eyeball looked like a spiderweb. It was cracked all over. Dr said I closed my eye before it hit me or I wouldn’t have an eye. My eyelid was also bruised to confirm her story.

My sight came back slowly over a week and a half. It returned to almost normal, but has never been the same again.

I've gotten a piece of stainless steel in my eye whilst cutting with a grinder. I always wear safety glasses but this one time, a small piece shot up and somehow ricocheted off the bone under my eye, then hit the i side of the safety glasses then back into my eye. How else could it have happened?

I went to the Doc a day later to get it removed.

My worst was when I was riding my street bike through the hood and rode into a swarm of bees. ( I have ridden into a swarm three times in my life) I got stung just to the edge of my cornea. The pain was immediate and severe. The stinger was embedded in my eye. I went directly to our local clinic and they rushed me to the ophthalmologist. (Spelling?l)...in normal language..an eye specialist. The pain was 10/10 and took my ol eyeball a week for the swelling to come down.

Yeah Boom fuck bees.

My old house had an area behind the garage and fence that was about 3 feet wide and would get overgrown with ivy, weeds, and bougainvillea bushes, just a bunch of nasty shit. I hired the gardener from down the street to clear it out. He sent one of his guys over (who didn't speak any English). Between my limited spanish and hand signals we got him rolling and headed out to run some errands. Came back about 3 hours later and nothing had been done. I asked the guy que pasa ? Problamo ?  He kept saying "Abejas enojadas" I wasn't sure what he meant so we walked back there and he pointed to 1 or 2 bees hovering around the ground. I was like goddamnit you pussy 2 fucking bees ? So I grabbed the rake and proceeded to smash the 2 bees. That's when I discovered that bees actually make hives at ground level, not just in trees. I was instantly attacked and got multiple stings, 2 on my face alone. One on my eyelid under my eyebrow, and another one on my cheek just under the same eye. I of course started screaming every swear word I know loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear and my eye instantly swelled closed. The only thing I could see out of my good eye was a Mexican gardener staring at me with a big ear to ear grin.  😄 Fuck bees.

Many years ago had a 12v battery explode in my face when putting a discharge meter to it immediately after it had been charged, acid to the eyes isn't nice but got away with it. Learnt a lesson there.

I used to wear glasses up until being around 23 (short sighted) got them lasered, but before that had a rock smash me in the face down the start straight at a race in Northern Ireland at the ex GP track Desertmartin, the glasses I had on beneath my goggles were made of actual glass. So my left eye had many splinters of glass in it.

Due to it being a weekend there were no eye specialists working at the hospital in Belfast so had to get an early ferry back home to England. Had to keep my eye closed and still as much as possible as some shards were catching the eye lid. From track to the hospital back home was about an 8hr journey. Some shards got left in as they said it would be too problematic to remove them and luckily enough haven't caused any lasting damage.

Desertmartin was a mega track though.

I got some battery acid / water  on me and in my eyes and hair, etc. one time.   Is the water in a battery  the same thing as battery acid? It sure messed up my shirt.

I was helping a friend paint their truck and I was underneath masking something and felt what I thought was water dripping on me.  It didn't really bother me at first  but then started to sting a little so I washed my eyes out and kept painting.

We were up all night , we did the entire prep, paint job all that day. It was a rough and dirty one. But anyway I was up late so I crashed on his coach. Woke up the next morning and  my T shirt was falling apart. Like just crumbling . And a little spot on the coach had a hole from the acid on my shirt.  Somehow my skin was totally fine.  I had to wait until later that afternoon to take a shower and I was a bit raw and red. But was fine by the next day after a shower or 2 .

After seeing my shirt falling apart we investigated his truck a little bit and it turned out that his battery was upside down . He had been out off road a few days before we painted it and the battery wasn't bolted down.

My dads buddy had a small aluminum boat with an electric trolling motor. 10-12 foot, slide it in the pickup bed sized.

Anyways, he had the battery in the boat on the way to the lake to fish and it tipped over and dumped the acid into the bottom of the boat and ate a hole in the aluminum.

Thats crazy !  I guess I got really lucky with my acid bath!   Must not have the same impact on skin  as it can on other materials.

That reminds me of the time my buddy and I found a jug or what I think was acid for washing bricks. It was a very long time ago. I was a teenager at the time. And we saw this jug that had been dumped with some bricks and other construction trash that was smoking . I went over and opened it up and smelt it and it burnt my lungs. Just a shallow sniff of it and holy crap it was bad!!  I can't imagine if that got in my eyes how bad that would be. I dropped it after and ran away from it and it was just smoking away melting some of the trash around it.  We went back the next day to see what it had done and show some buddies , maybe try and melt some stuff with it, and somebody had cleaned the area up and everything was gone.

Whoa Chance, that is scarry. Eyes seem like the most vulnerable part of the body. Hope you heal up quick and get some relief.

When I first met my best friend and life long riding partner he and his brother showed up on their first day of school wearing matching Kawasaki jerseys. I see these new kids standing in the lunch line and approach them and ask if they know anything about dirtbikes or they just think the jerseys are cool. They say they have 2 of the exact year kx125 that I also had. We hit it off right away. The first time I go to their house his little brother shoots me right in the eye with an airsoft bb right as I enter the door.  Needless to say he had a tennis racket broken over his head by his older brother and we all were besties from that moment on. Really miss those two awesome characters every day.

I had my first follow up yesterday. My tear duct is fried. My vision is still a bit blurry. I’m having to take drops every hour to lubricant my eye as the duct heals. The Doc is hoping by the next follow up in a month that it’ll have healed. It suck’s. I can’t lie. It feels like my eye is always dry and itchy now. On the plus side, that nasty sack that was under my eye is mostly gone. The top eyelid has a light scab over it. It’s healing. Just hoping everything returns to 100%

I had a handlebar in my left eye. Cased a double so bad, I collapsed into the bars. It shoved my goggle lens into the eye and caused a prolapsed iris. (Look it up if you have a strong stomach). I called my ophthalmologist immediately and she told me to get to Ohio State University hospital asap and I would be having emergency surgery to save it. She wasn’t wrong but they saved it. If I had been my hard headed self, I wouldn’t have gotten in til the following morning. She said I would have lost it had I done that.

Like another post. My two biggest fears are burning up or losing my sight.

I got slapped it the face by a tree beach while picking up brush. I got a cut on my eye, and the next day my eye Dr put a bandaid contact on it.

Hurt like a bugger, but probably wasn’t one tenth what you’re going through.

Any old timers remember Chuck Woody ? The story I heard was when he was kid he shot a gun into a mine, and the bullet or a rock ricocheted back out and took out his eye. Hence his nickname, One eyed Woody.  True story that sounds like bs but isn’t lol. Like TG says, you can’t make this shit up 😀

Fun rule while playing with acid.

If you want to dilute acid,  never, ever add water to the acid.

"Always drop acid" is the rule.

Saw some idiotic shit watching a guy trying to contain a 90% hydrochloric acid spill with a water hose.

Base is you freind,  not water.

One follow up after another. Last night I checked my chart. My vision was 20/80 in my damaged eye. Today it’s 20/100. Looks like after today’s appointment I’ll be out of work awhile. Next follow up Thursday.

Fuck chemicals.

How’s the eye doing Chance?

I’m released to go back to work Monday. My eye is still a bit blurry but, it’s expected to heal over the next few weeks. It doesn’t itch anymore but, I have to use eyedrops every few hours as my tear duct is still damaged. That’s expected to heal as well. THANKFULLY!!!!
