Am I taking crazy pills or mixing him up with another rider?
It would of been their first MX moto win.
I am trying to find this race I swore Byrner led the race till almost the very end, then put his foot down in a corner and destroyed his leg.
Broome or Unadilla, I remember it being down a hill then 90 back up. Left hander.
It was dilla and then he broke his leg without crashing as I recall.
I believe it was Southwick, I forget the year but he led the moto until the last lap and he ran out of gas. I believe it was the year that Australia swept a moto with Byrner, Moss and Reedy. Getting a bit foggy now.
That was metty. Byrne was either unadilla or high point (I think dilla) on a bro sports Suzuki.
Yup it was Brett Metcalfe that I was thinking of. Still though it is the same in the end, Nearly a first moto win just to be robbed of it.

Byrner was fun to watch. He was wicked on the cr 125 as well.
It was unadilla…he was winning the moto going away….dabbed his foot in one of unadilla”s track long 3 ft deep ruts and snapped his leg….I watch it …thought he tore his knee up but I knew he was broken….
Metty almost won a moto at southwick in 2010 but ran outta gas I believe. He did win the overall the next year in 2011 with his pops there. Byrner won a moto at southwick in the 125 class in 2003 I believe.
This is an absolutely wild race. Great watch and thanks for posting. It's kind of crazy how much riding styles have changed over the years. These guys are sitting down so much compared to riders now and the bikes look way more unsettled.
