Chad sucks on the west, but on the East he kills it.
Same story every year.
Granted Reed does not get a salary from a bike manufacturer.
But how many "privateers" are running factory gearboxes and factory Dunlops???
I guess he's a privateer with "benefits"...
but he is no privateer. he is on a private team. but not a privateer. there is a difference.
Kudos to Chad for doing what he thought was right and putting his money where his mouth is! Nobody should belittle his effort this year. He did everything on his own just as a privateer would if they had his money and influence, no wait thats not correct most privateers would have taken the millions and retired........lol Go get them Chad.
But it sounds like he did have a decent ride non the less. but keep in mind, he was over 12 seconds back of RV and 16 seconds back of Stewart...... thats a loooooonnng way back.
Good for Chad for putting together a solid team and coming to race this season. Hope he can step it up one more notch, grab some wins and make it a 3 way battle.
educating idiots is a thankless job!!!
Pit Row
The King was very clearly taking a shot at Reed.
still doesnt make him a factory rider.
i cant believe how difficult and stupid this "privateer or not" discussion is.
satellite teams dont usually get worx stuff. does that make them privateers? fuck no. but it doesnt make them factory riders either.
being a factory rider has a lot more to do with it than just the parts. i dont care to go into some great long rant detailing all the benefits aside from just the parts. but they are there. when you are a privateer, you know how much better it would feel to be on a private team. and when you are on a private team, you know how much better the satellite guys have it. and the satellite guys know how much better the factory guys have it. there are significant differences at every level. the racers know this, how come its so hard to illustrate here?
being a privateer means you are ON YOUR OWN. if you are on a team, even if the team is a non-affiliated private team, you are NOT on your own. and if you happen to own that team, you are still on a team, with resources available to you that the common privateer doesnt have.
privateers are parked out behind the main pits. pitting with there parents. with a friend who is helping them out for the day. hopefully they got a nice box trailer to pit out of. they get some help from a couple sponsors. maybe a shop paid there entry fee. but they are on there own for the most part. theres a special section of the pits for the privateers. most fans dont even notice it. and the twotwo motorsports setup is parked nowhere near that section.
all that said, it takes nothing away from what reed is doing. which imo is much harder than being a privateer. running a successful private mx team at the highest level, and competing and beating much more established and experienced private/satellite/and factory teams is an accomplishment all in itself for a first year team. throw in the fact that while doing that job he is racing and competing for the championship on satellite level equipment (at best). i couldnt respect him more. i give him mad props.....i just wont give him the title of a privateer.
but we're in different times now. the definitions have changed. simply put, there are more types of "rides" out there thats all.
there was a time when it was just factory or privateer. but with the advent of satellite teams and the emergence of very strong private teams like JGR and others....you cant just define everyone as either privateer or factory.
