And some of you may not know anyone from Australia particularly North East Australia but we are in trouble and I mean BIG trouble!!! There is a severe tropical cyclone that will hit the coast early Thursday morning. Some say it will be far worse than Katrina.......
This cyclone is bigger than anything we have ever seen, it's eye is over 100 kilometres wide (60 miles) Winds are expected to reach over 250 kmph (150 miles per hour)
I am in no way a religious man but I pray for the people who cannot get out of the way of this monster. Yes there are Vital members who will be evacuating right now. Pray for them....

This storm is likely to hit the coast over 1000 kilometres away from the flood affected areas. Our state government has told us that tidal surges will be felt over 100 km (60 miles) from the point of landing.
Australia and America are roughly the same size (give or take) this cyclone is roughly 10% of the size of our country (and yours) deaths are unavoidable. This is scary fuckin shit.

Cyclone Tracy and Cyclone Larry were the most destructive cyclones that we have seen. Have a look at the photo and you might get an idea what we are in for...
And Loose........dude!....that picture you just put up in your last post is incredible! If you have many relatives that live in the path of that thing....have them come satay with you. I would be getting the hell out of there in a hurry!

See on Tracy how well defined it is and how clear and defined the eye is? THAT is scary. That is the sign of a very strong central low pressure and an unhindered surrounding atmosphere...a very strong storm.

That was not a very wide storm, but it was the most powerful and destructive.
Katrina was destructive only because the POS dike system around New Orleans failed, but the storm itself was not wildly super-strong. It had power, don't get me wrong.
Yasi is big, wide and scary looking, but as long as it keeps a bit disorganized, the power stays lower. Let's hope it stays that way. If it wraps up tighter and the eye gets more defined, then be super worried.
Hurricanes suck and I have been through too many, including Andrew.
(I lived in North Miami at the time, that's the area between the eye wall at the top and the line above it.)
Be careful and keep your head down
On a serious note I moved from Mackay a couple years ago and now live 2 hrs inland (over a mountain range) so we should be safe. Probably just get some wind and (more) rain out of it (fingers crossed that's all we get anyway).
I'll be thinking of everyone on the coast when this mutha hits. It's going to cause some serious damage for sure.
People right along the coast are probably screwed, because a wide storm like that is going to have a hell of a storm surge.

The storm surge is expected to be over 5 metres but it's all a bit unknown as this is the biggest cyclone to hit the mainland, thankfully it will be low tide. Last night it was upgraded to category 5 which is as high as the ratings go.
The airlines have put on extra flights to evacuate everyone but there is only a few hours until the airports will be closed.
Mother nature can be a real bitch.

The weather bureau has revised its estimate and is now forecasting the possibility of 320km/h gusts when the potentially deadly storm hits land.
That is 200 mph for our American Bretheren
Andrews was the craziest shit to hit Florida 175mph winds. but that Yasi looks scary as hell also, good luck to all Australians.
