Living on the coast in Cali…I’ve even received “$11,000 Carbon-Bike attitude” when passing these a-holes on my eMTB and I always get a laugh out of it.

It’s why I ride solo.  Cyclists are their own worst enemy. Sure, bikes have a right to the road, but I follow the laws of gross tonnage. Solo cyclists receive much less grief from drivers.

This is true , although I have been harassed by motorist while riding on the shoulders edge. 

At least in California you're not allowed to ride more than one wide when traffic is behind you.

never enforced! I live outside of town. The road I live on is traveled by packs of bicycles on weekends. You'll get a pack of 20-40 riders slight uphill so they're going slow. You think they'll let a car by? Not a chance, you have to follow for miles before they let you by going 15mph.

I also only ride weekend, except for a short 1 mile intervals loop just outside the neighborhood. Simply not worth the risk. Plus roads are almost empty at 0700 on Sat and Sun. 

Nothing is illegal until someone complains, so.....complain! If you make some noise, they'll post up. They don't have the manpower to hit all the county roads of their own volition, but if you make calls and start recording, you'll definitely help get some fines handed out. I'd happily do that if we had that here, but most I see is one one or two and the roads are way too dangerous to go two wide. Fuck that brand of selfish entitlement. 

I’m fortunate enough to have trail systems around me. Paved and dirt. It’s kinda nice.

Because, aside from the laughs we’re having…

People in cars, for the most part, suck. People can’t drive for shit. On top of that…they’re on their fucking phones, doing their make-up, spilling their Starbucks or day-dreaming…yada, yada, yada…default to LoudLove’s “tonnage rule” on this one. 

“Sharing the road” with the average stupid fuck behind the wheel of their huge black SUV is jus’ not smart these days.

Another thing I do…carefully…cautiously…I ride on the sidewalk when it’s open/no one’s on it and I bunny hop off into the street well before I interfere with walkers. I do this only in “The Danger Zones” like on PCH (the Pacific Coast Highway) & other super busy or tourist infested streets…etc.

Like I said, the average driver…sucks 🤣

It's not just that the average driver sucks. It's that there's a mix of drivers that are still pissed from last week and feel the need to fuck with you when you're on a bicycle. They get off on it and it sucks for everyone.

Enve wheels are made just down the road from my office, those cock-suckers have planned rides where multiple groups of 30-40 of them head out on their ride and they stagger about 5 minutes apart. God help you if you get on one of the little two lane roads they ride. and dude is right, when you go to pass them they throw their hands up like you're the villain. fuck those guys.

I grew up in a bike family,  my dad repaired them, sold them on the side

 ( until the Village said it was to professional  and shut him down )

My mom drove the extended van as the " Sag wagon " on group rides..back then we respected cars etc. we were the guests on the roads ( Farm dogs were and probally still are the worst )...

In my teens we said yeah sure we'll do a breakfast ride with you my dad and his crew were maybe 50 . 7 a.m. were taking off 28 miles to the restaurant.. hung over...6 hrs of sleep max...they hung with us .after breakfast were feeling Alive and take off for home !! Only to get completely Waxed within 2 miles they were gone " Blur " is the term now for that Pace lol. But yeah i still respect the cars first.

Cyclists……..

Please pay the same road tax as I do to drive on the roads, as do motorcycles.

Please pay the same insurance rates as I do to drive on the roads, as do motorcycles 

Please obey road signs and laws as I do to drive on the roads, as do motorcycles

Otherwise get the FUCK OFF the roads and stop the chaos that cyclist create in traffic.

My state has its fair share and then some. The entitlement attitude is the hardest thing to deal with, share the road as it’s convenient for the bicyclists but don’t share the law. Drivers have to give them space but bikes don’t have to stop at stop signs and lights, ride 2-4 abreast at 14 mph on a 45-50 mile an hour road. One or two at a time is great but the 50 year old, 30 rider peloton is horrendous. A few months ago the peloton took a break in my work parking lot. They leaned 4-5 bikes on the car parked at the end of the row and scratched it pretty bad when the bikes slid off. Not your car, don’t touch. 

If you are going to ride the road you have to be really aggressive with a fuck you attitude, or you will be killed. Many years of having to take shitty roads to get to the good ones, and dealing with the cars in between taught me that. 
I don’t ride the road anymore and even I get annoyed by roadies. Mtbs are so much more fun. 

Don’t know what sate you’re in, but in Washington State, cyclists have to obey the same traffic laws as a motor vehicle.

Colorado. 3 ft passing rule which I’m totally fine with when they are single file and at the edge of the road. Different rules(and behavior) for stop lights and signs though. I get being able to run a red when you’ve stopped and verified safe when you are the only vehicle there. A bike won’t trigger a light but a lot run them even with cars already waiting. 

I’m an avid bicyclist, but I’d never ride with a pack of the TDF crowd. You’d never see me riding two feet left off the white line. If there’s a shoulder, I’m on it, if not, I’m as close to the line as possible. 

Some years ago, when I wasn’t as temperate, I encountered a group of maybe 20-25 cyclists, taking up the entire lane on a two lane road. Pushing in the clutch and putting 700 whp on the two-step, they moved out of my way. For those that are unaware, it sounds like a machine gun on the chip. 

Luckily we have a good network of bike trails here in south King County WA, so I don't often even have to get on the roads with all the dumb-ass drivers staring at their cell phones and texting while driving.

How many bicyclists do you suppose own automobiles as well as the bicycle you're bitching about? Cry harder!

We've got Road-Bicyclist groups around here that like to "take over" roads for LARGE organized rides...and raise hell with motorists...soooooo...

Some of us made sure that group has to get their rides PERMITTED and supported as required with chase vehicles and LEOs on some of their larger group rides.

Guess what? They're behaving a lot nicer these days.

I was an avid road cyclist about 15 years ago, rode by myself for the most at that time.
Tight to the side of the road on busy streets...  ...riding out to the country side where cars were few and far between.

When I first started road cycling about 40 years ago, the racing club I rode with had strict rules about formation riding.
A tight double line out of town following all road rules (never more than 25 riders for our training sessions).
Edit to add ---> the double line formation out of town was ALWAYS in a tight formation to the right side of the road.
...and even on country roads we kept the formation tight since that is how you race on the road...
Only when on empty country roads did we do echelon training if the wind was kicking.
...and maybe these asshats of today should train with a racing club...
...or the cul-de-sac clubs they train with now should take advice from how racing clubs train...

I was mountain biker from before I started road cycling and over the last few decades I have migrated back to dirt trails exclusively.

If you took your unlicensed mx bike on the road with all of your proper riding gear and no insurance.how long would it take for the police to issue you a ticket.

My point is just that I don’t harass cyclists on the road. I just wish they had to pay the insurance and road taxes that we all do to have the same luxury of being on any public road.

If you drove your vehicle and only used hand signals to change lanes, how long would it take for the police to issue a ticket.Even if the turn signals worked.

It’s funny, if you buy an e-scooter they have turn signals. How about bicycles following that as a rule to ride on the road it seems e-scooters and e-bikes are conforming .
