Edited Date/Time 5/26/2026 6:29pm

EDIT: A crew member has been recruited. We found him here on Vital. Yay!!

JEFF WARD & MICKY DYMOND NEED 1 MORE CREW MEMBER FOR RACE ACROSS THE WEST

Do you live in Southern California? Do you want to have the adventure of a lifetime as a crew member for Jeff Ward and Micky Dymond’s 860-mile bicycle race, the Race Across the West?

If you consider yourself an excellent driver and someone who works well in a team, then email vic@raceacrossamerica.org and let’s talk of how YOU can be a part of something very special.

Their racing effort is a benefit for Road 2 Recovery, the non-profit founded by Jimmy Button that provides assistance to injured motocross racers and other extreme sports athletes.

The race starts in Oceanside, California at noon on June16. Their goal is to finish in Durango, Colorado on June 18, (they need to make it by 11:00 am Colorado time to break the existing 2-rider age 60-69 record). The crew will then drive the support vehicles back to California on the 19th and/or 20th.

Dammit, have a prior commitment that same week/end if not I’d love to be part of this as someone near their age and also a fan and a SoCal resident.

Wardy and Micky spent last week training together. Micky is back home in NorCal continuing his training, while Wardy continues to put in long miles in SoCal. On yesterday's 65-mile session, Wardy happened upon a group of riders that included Justin Barcia.

When Wardy told me about seeing Bam Bam I had to ask, "How'd you know it was him? Did he block pass you in a corner?"  😜

I can’t really grasp the fitness level these guys are on. Here’s a humbling fact. Today we did our weekly “On Any Monday” morning trail ride, it seemed like a legit ride to me, just under 13 miles and about 2,200’ of climbing. I was looking at my Strava totals and realized they’re going farther and higher in 47 hours than I have in 9 months.  My first Strava ride was August 15th of last year, since then I’ve ridden 823 miles and climbed 103,464’.  These guys are looking to go 37 miles further, and climb 71,536’  higher in 47 hours than I have in 9 months, and I’m on an E-bike….
Then from there they still have another 2,140 miles to go. I knew this was a gnarly race obviously but today’s ride and subsequent math really put it into perspective. Those guys are Guh-Narly 😮😮LOL. IMG 3603.png?VersionId=2yFfxjhOAv.s7kv3c4BHvXsoIMG 3617 0.png?VersionId=jiyoriIMG 3616IMG 3590 1
