Bacon Apple Pie Cheesburger Recipe Suggestions

We're going to try making bacon apple pie cheeseburgers this weekend. The plan is to get brioche buns, crisp bacon, a burger, cheddar or brie, and a scoop of apple pie for a unique burger. Looking for suggestions for something clean and crisp to cut through the richness (like a fresh granny smith apple).

I would think you'd want a sweeter flavor not tart. In that case a honeycrisp or pink lady would be a better choice. A granny might end up overwhelming the rest of the flavors.

Not a chef ... I'd get one of each and cut the burgers in half and make it a trial party. Looking forward to the results.

The apple pie flavor doesn’t sound appealing to me on a bacon cheeseburger, but grilling the burger over applewood makes for a delicious burger patty!  Just have to cover the patty with a domed lid to keep the smoke on it. Great for steaks and chicken too.

We make burgers at least twice a week. We always use a good toasted bun, but not always the same bun.  A couple of my simple favorites.

Spicy brown mustard, pepper jack cheese, dill pickles.

Pimento cheese, bacon, mayonnaise, tomato

I've smoked and grilled burgers with applewood and it just doesn't come through with any apple flavor. Just tastes like grill/smoke which is fine, but not what I'm going for.

Apple pie bacon cheeseburger might not be everyone's jam, but I'm trying it this weekend. I'm hoping for a good combination of salty and sweet. Just looking for suggestions on what might cut through the richness of this combo.

PB&J/bacon hot dogs are freakin delicious and this will be somewhat similar in flavor profiles.

Not a bad idea with honeycrisp. Was also thinking that pickled red onions might do the trick.

Oh I didn’t mean to make it sound like applewood grilling made it taste like apples. I just prefer the applewood smoke flavor to other woods like hickory, etc. Cherrywood is good for a change of pace as well.

The apple pie flavor doesn’t sound great to me on a burger, but it might turn out well I suppose. I remember trying the ‘Hawaiian’ burger at places several years ago where they added ham and pineapple on top of the beef patty. It wasn’t bad as something different, and probably quite a bit better than I had initially thought it would be. But a sweet hamburger still probably wouldn’t be my first choice if I had my pick.

Good luck and hope it turns out well!

We have spiced apples all the time as a side dish.  Maybe you should start there and work your way backwards.  Make your burger and then put some spiced apples on it and see how it goes.

To add, maybe try slicing a Honeycrisp or Cosmic Crisp apple horizontally into rings. Try to get about 3/8” to 1/2” rings if possible. Leave the peel on so that it stays together better on the grill but obviously remove the core portion.  Coat both sides with sugar or a cinnamon sugar mixture (apple pies have a lot more sugar added than most people might think). Grill the rings for about a minute or two on each side on a medium heat just to lightly soften the texture and caramelize the sugar. One or two rings per burger should add a pretty good apple taste to it fairly well.

Let us know how it turns out.

1/3 pound burgers seasoned with all purpose seasoning and ancho chili powder, cooked medium, sharp cheddar, thick cripsy bacon, matchstick pink lady apples, a scoop of an apple blossom from whole foods (little apple pie thing), all tied together on a heavy duty brioche bun. It was a phenomenal burger. I would only suggest using a more assertive fresh apple.

Used to eat peanut butter and bacon sandwiches when I was a kid.

I remember there was even a store bought peanut butter that had bacon in it.

I'd maybe try grilling vertical thin apple slices, think like a tomato slice. beside the patty, add some smoked paprika to it or something. It will bring out the sweetness and cut down the bitterness.
