I always thought that the 22 was one of the best. I was so stoked when one came out with the blue front fender for the honda and i painted my frame blue and did my bike kinda like this. I called it the patriot, lol

The holeshot machine?? Larry could pull holeshots on anything! It is really funny that you guys post something up about him! I just spoke with him a few hours ago and I'm pretty sure he thinks everyone has forgotten about him! Awesome looking bike also!

I remember when he won his first SX Main (1990?) in Seattle (his home town) that was one happy dude.Smile

wheres he living these days. i live a few miles from snohomish and we always wonder when we will see him at arenacrosses but he never does but we see other local pros from his time

I know, just looking at that thing reminds me of a buddy who had the YZ125 that year and how unbelievably doggish it was.

On a related note, we stayed at the same hotel as the Noleen team for the Gatorback national in '94 and I got stuck in many a day dream at Larry's bike. Smile

The best Sx/nationals I went to were the ones he won. The 1990 Seattle sx a buddy and i went to and we stood the whole main and got a great view of the Chicken /Ward slow down race.

I think it was 1999, the last year they had a race in the Kingdom and Larry won. The wife and I took another couple with us to the race and this couple didnt know what the hell sx was. They had the best time because the whole crowd was getting into it and they cheered right along like they were seasoned fans.

I think it was 01 when Larry became the first guy to win a 125 nat on the yamaha fourstroke by going 1-3 at Washougal. Very cool of Larry to show up at the home track and pull that win out of his ass.

Another race I remember is when he showed up at my local track in the fall of 88 for a Yamaha Gold Cup race,before he went big with Honda the next year. I think he won all four motos going away with only Tony Graves keeping him in sight. Maximum Yamabucks for Larry as I think he rode the whole series and only lost one race to Tony Graves.

Anyways, always seemed like a decent dude.

Those bikes look awesome. The satellite teams bikes always look fresh. Great for sponsors when bikes like those above have such visual impact. Could never understand why the yamaha factory team had such dull looking bikes (imo), eg Hill, Hepler 2008.

The #1 Noleen Yamaha from 1994 is not Larry WARD's. This bike is Larry BROOKS' 1994 bike. Brooks was #1 in MTEG that year. But all Noleen race bikes looked the same that year.


And yes, that's Tim Ferry's #22 Noleen machine.

I still have an old Hondaline jersey from 89 Larry gave me after a race in Bristol TN. He took second to Damon Bradshaw after an epic battle. Some 16 year old local kid named Mike Brown took third.

Last I heard Larry was living by Myrtle Beach SC. His Mom still lives in Society Hills SC.

I wanted Larry to ride my YZ in the Budds Creek 2 stroke challenge but other things happened.

Lumpy is correct. He is living just outside of Myrtle Beach and his mom is still in Society Hill. I am pretty sure she is still working for Victory Sports as well, not 100% sure though. He goes back to Washington to hunt with his dad every year. Not sure when and for how long though. He is a great guy and I will see if I can get him on here to make a post.

Oldschool, I am working out the details on a deal for next year right now and I will let everyone know what it is when I get it all signed!

Back in 91-92, we had a local, private SX club track built here with our members money. It was backed by a local Chiropractor that I believe was a Doc for Larry. He showed up one day at the track, rode a Suzuki with a flat rear tire and banzai'd that place.....Something to see for sure. Awesome rider.

would he care to know that i am restoring one of his 1995 sizzler noleen yz250s? we are documenting it. and should be displayed in a new motocross park in northern AZ. if he wants to be apart of it or has any to put towards the restoration of his bike that would be amazing! would be sweet if he had some old parts for it.
