Some of Dads old Pins and Belt buckles he received from his racing days (desert and scrambles). Thought they were cool and wanted to share. Wish they handed out things like this instead of the cheap plastic trophies of today. Moto on!1000004533.jpg?VersionId=Hd

Pretty cool! For the record, those are "Finisher Pins". Generally, you had to make the finish to get one. Do 80 miles of desert on a '77 YZ400 and you won't call it a participation trophy.

A couple years ago when I took my son to Mammoth for the first time, I was happy to see that they were still handing out main event pins when I was pushing his bike up to the gate for the finals. He may not remember the details of his mid 20s finish in the  but  got that pin and a few he’s collected since hanging on his wall.

I still have a few of mine somewhere.

I thought they didn't have those back in the day?

Maybe "participation trophies" was the wrong wording, thought about it after I hit submit, but you know what I meant. They are not "place" trophies, thats all

No worries. 👍

Like chuckie said, they were usually referred to as "Finisher Pins" - recognition of your accomplishment of having survived a grueling event, even if you didn't win. Very cool memorabilia, thanks for sharing!

I had two of those, but one went missing. I promised my daughter I'd bring her back a trophy, and I gave one of those to her. She was 4 at the time, so heaven knows where it went. 😆

I still have the other one pinned to my gearbag.

I think it’s all good. The way you used the term is funny and so is Chuck’s response.

It’s all funny…and true. 🤣
