I haven’t ridden a 25 or 26 Honda 250. Not sure any of the guys I know at the tracks I go to have one. Just curious at my age, 70 year that makes a few laps during week at local tracks. Would the current generation Honda all that better than much better than my mod’d 2023.
The 2023 Honda 250 I have, never cared much for. It’s set in the garage most of its life. Not much luck trying to flip. So a while back I threw a 23.5 degree Luxon triple clamp and Pro Circuit rear linkage system. I got PC rear linkage for cheap for on Ebay, couldn’t turn it down. I would say it’s sprung for my weight but I’ve bulked up about 10-15 pounds with a sore knee last few months and another knee surgery. It might have been a tick light in the rear to start with before my sore knee fried chicken and beer diet.
Haven’t really got to test it out much since these mod’s and doctor still keeping me off the track with my knee. What little I’ve ridden it since mods seems to be an improvement. More stable and a tick more planted on corner exit from what little I’ve ridden it. But still not as planted on corner exit as I wanted. I’m not so sure at my age I could live on the difference between my mod’d 2023 and current generation. But everybody loves a new bike in the garage lol.
I bet I’m not the only one that mod’d a 22-24 Honda, comments please. Trying to figure out if I can live on the difference.
Thanks Billy
I'm your age, on a '26 250WE. I've ridden a few laps on some friends 21-23 250s, but it's hard for me to make a back to back comparison since I didn't ride them back to back with mine. I'll say that I do love the WE. It feels very planted on track, with excellent front end steering and very good high speed stability. It's particularly good on corner exit, with great hook up. I haven't really played with suspension yet other than setting sag (103mm). I might play a bit with rear shock settings as I'd like a bit more compliance with low-speed acceleration bump chop, but that's about it.
Mannn I loved my 23 CRF250, right up there with one of the best bikes I’ve ever had. But it also had KYB kit suspension from ENZO and a Vortex ecu from XPR. Never been on a 2025+ to compare.
At your age, assuming you have money to spend... Just get the new bike.
Yeah I can swing a new 26 or 27 red bike. Didn’t think about WE.
Before I go new bike shopping I’m going to swap tires since knee not good enough to ride yet. I have a set of current generation MX34 I bought a while back in the garage to replace the Metzeler’s. I really liked the Metzeler’s on a YZ250F I hade before my 23 Honda, not sure it’s a good fit on my Honda. I need to get those MX34’s mounted and maybe go up a spring rate both front and back. I think RaceTech sprung me to light on the current spring, that and I’ve gained weight. It’s not that hard to swap spring. Can’t ride might as well get it right before I do.

Riding moto at 70 automatically justifies you to buy any bike you want at any time! Get what makes you happy.
Please tell my wife riding motocross at 70 I should get any bike I want at anytime. Although depending on the track, not always very fast lol!
The 23.5 offset triple clamps are a game changer on these bikes.
What little I’ve ridden my Honda, both Luxon clamp and Pro Circuit real linkage seem to be an improvement. Compared to current generation Honda I don’t know. Dang bum knee and surgery shut things down, spent very little time on my Honda after mods. Along with shortly after I did the mods on my Honda. I got a 30 percent off code at Ride Engineering. Couldn’t turn it down. Adrian at Ride Engineering hooked me up with a Ride Engineering clamp and rear link for my 24 KX450 for cheap, I have no business owning a 450. I need to go up a rate in the rear on my KX.
The thing about being retired and being young for my age, mods on dirt bikes just seem to happen lol. I ended up doing mod work instead of riding, torn meniscus didn’t help either. But Hank the moto dog and I had fun in the garage working on dirt bikes, a little beer got drank too!
I’ve kinda made my mind up. Once my knee gets better, guessing 3-5 weeks before I can ride again. I’ll put some real time on my Honda. My better judgment tells me I have a paid off low hour Honda with some good mods. But I keep hearing a voice saying get a 2027 Honda or new Beta 250 4 stroke RX lol!!!
I also have another voice saying you better not bring another new dirt bike home till you get rid or two or three……….that voice is my wife!
Kinda funny……….dirt bike decisions can be stressful………my wife doesn’t quite see it that way lol!!!!.
Post a reply to: Is 2025-26 Honda CRF250R that much better than mod’d 22-24 (clamp/PC rear linkage)
