You aren't wrong lol. I am going to be considering the '27 250F, once I see the updates and whatnot. Not set on a new bike yet but things can change quickly, as you alluded to.
Why? Because why not?!? 😆 I ride all of the dirt bikes regularly, but admit I have a hard time getting the street bikes on the road enough times to justify having them. But I hate selling things, and I tend to get attached (obviously, lol). My favorite?? Oh boy, I think that depends on the track, track conditions, and just how I'm feeling that day. But overall, if I HAD to pick one for moto, it would be the 350 SX-F. I typically race the 350 and the Husky 450 Rockstar edition, and I have to admit my lap times are usually a bit better on the 450. But the 350 is just so much fun and easier to race. I'm a huge fan of Betas, and will always have a 300 2-stroke race edition in the garage. If I could only keep one bike (oh the horror!), it would probably be a Beta 300 Race Edition. I just got done breaking in the 2025 YZ450F, and once I get the suspension stiffened up and I can get a little more stability out of it (race cups or 23.5 offset clamps), it will probably give the Austrian bikes a run for their money.
I'm a simple guy so I don't like to spend much on stuff that's not an absolute "need". Got my first ever brand new bike last summer, a 2025 YZ250F. I paid $8500 OTD for it and rode it completely stock a few times to feel it out. So far all I've "upgraded" is a Pro Taper bar pad for $30, a Twin Air filter (just a stock replacement not the powerflow kit) for around $30, number graphics for $90, and some tie wire for my stock grips, so like $0.02 lol? This bike is awesome for me as is stock, at least for right now, so thankfully I haven't spent much.
Now, my project '01 CR250...well my money is going there. Got into it for $2700, + $600 for top end rebuild, +$200 in parts so far that are necessary (carb rebuild kit, gaskets, fuel lines, etc.). Gonna need to spend some more on the suspension and new tires and tubes, but all in all not bad at all. I guess I'm the odd duck of the Vital world haha
