I don't think we will ever be mainstream. I personally am ok with that. Over the years I have noticed that, for most people, if you have raced mx you get the sport. If you have not raced you don't get the sport. I know we can all point at our wives and say they get it, but its because its part of who we are. We have the greatest sport because in MX a lot of us have ridden the tracks, we get it. I always tell new people its a sport that once it grabs you it doesn't let go. I personally miss the old days when you could run around the infield of an Outdoor National and see the front battle at many locations. Now if you want along the fence you better park it. That being said every time Ricky say "clean air" I want to throw something at the TV.

To be a Monday morning director, the production team seems very concerned with what is said and exactly how it is said live. I think that leads Ricky, Will, and Diffey to stumble over themselves to get what they need to say out. If they just had general talking points, and could flow more with the situation, I think it would be better.

JT seems to have it dialed despite it all. He is very concise, and seamlessly acknowledges action on the track through his segments. Will has gotten better with acknowledging action on the track, but struggles a lot with being concise.

Overall, the broadcast would be so much better if everyone could just be more casual and concise. Even with the current team. To be successful we have to act successful. A successful sport does not explain every little detail of itself. It trusts the audience to fill in the blanks with context clues.

I just get the sense that a lot of time is spent on exactly what needs to be said. Ricky sounds like he has a gun to his head up there sometimes. The worst thing of all to me is the apologizing live on air when he has a slip up. Just keep rolling man!

Yea unfortunately we are yelling at clouds.

I’m in the minority here but Weege and his ‘I’m a dolt and surprised about everything schtick’ is just as annoying as anything diffey or RC say or do.

I think the best year for announcing was the fucked up mavtv outdoor season where they brought in a different analyst every week.

They try to hard selling story lines and trying to make it ‘look cool’ instead of just calling the race as it unfolds.

the other flaw is dumbing it down, explaining what a start device and scoop tire is every race is nauseating. Just call the race for the avid fan, if someone hears something they don’t know about and they want to they’ll look it up.  Your not gonna get anywhere catering to the lowest common denominator.

The contrast between a Malin race call and a Weege/Diffey call is the size of the Grand Canyon.

Which broadcast makes the sport look cooler MXGP or SX? For me it’s MXGP by a mile.

“As Weege will tell you time and again, we’re basically paid storytellers.” - Leigh Diffey on PulpMX yesterday.

He HAS to drop the whole “and the reason I say that is” bit. It’s brutal. Just say your point and get out.

those were like the training wheels his speech coach put him on a few years ago to get his mind straight "orientated" and he just never rid himself of the crutch and developed his own (clear) style to replace them.

zero offense intended toward any boomers here, and i know plenty here are sick of the production too.... but corporate boomers will never comprehend how the zoomer mind works. everything in our society is generally still catered toward boomers (outside of tiktok, which was just purchased by the ARCH boomer) and there is a bit of projection going on about what resonates. most people see the storytelling as corny. racing is timeless and universal though. wish they'd just call the races.

RC again with his top quality analysis - regarding Roczen in 5th place in Denver: "There is no time left!" (18 minutes left in the race, only 3 seconds behind the leader).

They bring in Emig or JT for MXGP sometimes, would be awesome if Malin got to commentate a couple of pro motocross rounds or even supercross.

Nobody's "banning" anybody but I think your comment has merit insofar as broadcasters being relatable to their audience. It's just common sense. Imagine if Al Michaels or Joe Buck stepped in to announce F1 or the British Premier League.

Don't get me wrong, a "peppering" of multinationalism is a good thing but I think an intelligent domestic/native voice that the vast majority of the SX audience can relate to is lacking anytime Leigh and RC are in the booth. (no disrespect to JT$ but he is only on air for a few brief moments which isn't enough to tip the scale in the right direction)

Drop the mike, bro. You just explained it all.

Sure, he stumbles and jumbles his words; I'm sure we all would in that situation, but he is so much better on RDL. Just goes to show that NBC is serving these terrible narratives.
