The potential to being one step closer to the greater Israel plan.

Iran has said they will respond by destroying infrastructure in neighboring countries.

How would that help Israel or the US achieve it's objectives?

What are Israel and the US's objectives?

Basically to take Iran down to where they are no longer a threat to their neighbors or the rest of the world. And probably poach their oil.

Come on, that’s not anything that the leaders of Israel would endorse…..

Before critiquing Naval tradition maybe,  read up on the significance of that Pirate flag.

That first crew of the Kidd began calling themselves "the Pirates of the Pacific," picking up downed naval aviators and returning them to their carriers in exchange for a "ransom" of ice cream. That initial USS Kidd, which served the U.S. Navy off and on until 1964, is now a museum ship. In 1981, a new USS Kidd, the first of its eponymous class of warships, entered service and inherited the tradition (and permission) to hoist the Jolly Roger until it was given to Taiwan in 1998.

And so it was for the latest USS Kidd when it was commissioned in 2007. It not only flies the pirate flag when entering and leaving port, but when the vessel makes its way between the U.S. coasts and during multinational exercises, as well. The skull and crossbones can also be seen on the rear of the Kidd's five-inch guns, on its internal doors and probably tattooed on a fair number of its sailors.

A lot of Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are out there, named for a great number of the Navy's leaders and heroes. The USS Kidd (and the Kidds that come after it) will always be the only ship flying the Jolly Roger as part of its own unique piece of history.

You’re helpful and, insightful in the tech help threads. Here, I often wonder what’s up with the alter ego. I saw the better side of you in my, Titanium Anonymous thread

My son is a Gunners Mate on the USS McFaul. Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided missile destroyer in the United States Navy. Maybe look up the meaning of his pig and rooster tattoos on his feet.

I’m still trying to understand how this all doesn’t just piss Iran off even more in the long run. The new Ayatollah has lost almost every member of his family and now he’s meant to turn around and be like “yeah, we cool Trump”.

Unless it’s boots on the ground and total defeat of the IRGC, no agreement will ever stick.

And now they just hate us all even more.

It's breeding another generation of "terrorists", who will enact revenge for the murder of their Ayatollah.

US election poling booths will need armed federal law enforcement, to protect US citizens.

I mean, it's a complex picture and nowhere near as binary as some would have you believe it is.

In the short term Iran's ability to attack or support it's proxies in the region with their attacks has definitely been hammered. That hasn't stopped them being able to close of the straight of Hormuz or inflict huge pain on their neighbours in the region and by extension, the rest of the global economy. It does mean they are perhaps more susceptible to internal challenge. Manny recognised a few paces back that they'd survived in terms of being able to keep firing stuff by devolving command and control to individual groups, which why now there's clearly mixed messages and fragmented leadership as those groups all fight for position.

In the longer-term, this could still go anywhere.  I remember saying a long while back that regime change from the air doesn't guarantee a 'good' result because more often than not it's the biggest, nastiest fucker who's left holding the guns and that's who you end up having to deal with. Right now there's an even chance between someone sensible and someone worse than Khomeni being left in charge, it could be his son, but I don't think he's driving the car right now for whatever reason. The heads of the IRGC and Quds force though are far more belligerent and fanatical, they want this to continue and escalate into a ground war because they know they can make it very, very unpleasant.

Edit: The other party that has a say in this that's happily stoking it all is Russia. They have been providing the Iranians with intelligence, weapons and support since day 1 of this kicking off and before, including arming Hezbollah and the Houthis through Iran. The higher the oil price goes, the more the US gets bogged down and can't sell stuff to Ukraine, the happier they are. With a weakened and fragmented NATO as a wonderful little cherry on the cake.

Anybody heard this? Was Donald Trump 'blocked' from using the nuclear codes against Iran?

Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson alleged on a podcast this week that US President Donald Trump wanted to use the nuclear codes against Iran during an emergency White House meeting, but that he was stopped by General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Johnson described the interaction as "quite the blow up." It comes as concern mounts over the US president's unpredictable behaviour, as many lawmakers voice doubts about his mental state.

On an appearance on the Judging Freedom podcast hosted by former Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano, ex-CIA officer Larry Johnson claimed an emergency briefing evolved into a confrontation, after General Dan Caine stood his ground after Donald Trump sought to invoke the nuclear codes. He said Caine "stood up and said 'No.' He invoked his privilege as the head of the military."

CNN reported that Caine, Pete Hegesth and other top officials arrived at the White House on April 18, and footage of Caine "storming out" of the building was shown on the podcast by Johnson. But the idea of Caine "blocking" Trump goes against the reality of the command chain, as technically nobody can overrule the president's command.

However, what has been reported is conflicting ideas between Caine and Trump. Though the US president said online in February that Caine believed military action against Iran could be "easily won", that's not what Caine advised at the time, according to The Washington Post.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that Trump was "intentionally excluded from the Situation Room" during Washington's recent operation to rescue US airmen in Iran. Sources revealed that he was in such a volatile state that he was screaming at his aides "for hours" and military officials made the choice to limit his access, "believing his impatience wouldn't be helpful".

Though it's difficult to verify proof of nuclear strike intent, the gap between Trump's recent war rhetoric and the stance by his Joint Chiefs of Staff has fanned the flames of this viral claim.
