Some of my Euro friends here have been critical of my observation that I thought the YS propaganda about the GP's being in better shape because the European economy was golden compared to a depressed US economy. MXMatti in fact threw an inspired anti American rant my way in a thread about Pourcel now in the dungeon, complete with personal insults and Michael Moore clips. That was a hoot.

Here's an article by Paul Krugman, a Nobel Prize winning economist and NY Times columnist, a die-hard liberal and hardly the blind banner-waver of American patriotic exceptionalism. It's a good read for anyone with an interest in world affairs if you have the patience to make it through. No one claims things are great here, but they are improving even if too slowly and with some on going pain for people who by their own or others' decisions are in financial distress. But it is improving. The trend is less so over there. No one is happy about it.

LOL. I'm hiding this one here.

I've used up almost all of my 2011 posting budget in the last couple days.

C'mon. People here can be trusted to be open minded and willing to think through notions they disagree or aren't comfortable with in a sound and reasonable way. It's actually a more even-keeled piece than Krugman's usual columns.

If there's anyone who knows economics, it's Krugman. I don't care whether someone likes his politics or not, he knows the numbers.

interesting read, for all i got through... making fun of the Euro isn't exactly a challenging topic and exactly why I hope we don't get involved

Well this article is more about trouble the EU is facing, not Europe as individual countries

Do you really think that the economy of the USA is on the way to impoving ? I don't see anything that has changed since 07 . The real crash is yet to come . It is probably going to hurt falling from that high horse that you are sitting on .

I agree about the US economy. It is improving in the short term, but we have not fixed any of the issues that caused this initial dive. We still have a growing debt, growing trade imbalance, shrinking technology base, shrinking manufacturing base, shrinking service industry base.

Those are issues that need to be addressed or the US is not going to be a nice place to live in the future.
