Imagine the racing if all the top talent were in one race.
We never have the fastest 10 riders on the track at the same time.
Edit: 450 and 250 classes combined tonight.
Updated for main event laptimes: Fastest rider of both mains in 250, with 2 of the fastest 3 riders in 250:
1. 55.140 (250) Deegan
2. 55.337 (450) Roczen
3. 55.449 (250) Davies
Yea, no.
So, doesn't the main get you what you want?
The current system makes no sense. Everybody on 250s, 2 or 4 stroke. 40 qualify by time to the night show. Two heats of 20, top 8 to the main. LCQ 4 to the main. 20 in the 20 lap A main ran first, everybody else in the 15 lap B main ran later. Less track wear, les lappers, it makes sense.
Ah, yes. Right over my head.
Thanks.

with 250's and 450's together?
4 of the 5 fastest qualifiers are on 250's, 1 on 450.
6 of the 10 fastest qualifiers are on 250's, 4 on 450's.
Yeah, I totally missed what you were suggesting. Sorry.
Put those fast 250 riders on 450s tonight and watch their laptimes get slower. It happens a few times every year where certain tracks result in faster times for 250s.
Different bikes on different tracks.
Yeah I had no f’ing clue till I read this as well so don’t feel bad.
Fastest laps in 250 & 450 mains tonight by rider:
1. 55.140 (250) Deegan
2. 55.337 (450) Roczen
3. 55.449 (250) Davies
4. 55.726 (450) Cooper
5. 55.919 (450) Prado
6. 56.459 (450) Tomac
7. 56.537 (450) Lawrence
8. 56.564 (450) Webb
9. 56.600 (250) Romano
10. 56.681 (250) Hammaker
Fastest lap by a 250 with 2 of the fastest 3 in the 250 main.
250's have a better track and are easier in the whoops that a 450, I don't think he'd have been as fast on the more rutted and beat down track.
Eliminating the track deterioration has a similar result.
Comparing the 450 heat races with the 250 main, fastest 2 riders are in the 250 class:
1, 55.140 250 Deegan
2. 55.449 250 Davies
3. 55.867 450 Sexton
4. 55.982 450 Cooper
5. 56.190 450 Roczen
6. 56.500 450 Webb
7. 56.600 250 Romano
8. 56.681 250 Hammaker
9. 56.772 450 Tomac
10. 56.845 450 Savatgy
Who was the fastest rider last night?
The only way to know is to get them on the track at the same time.
Track is in better condition for the 250s... the times don't really compare between 250s and 450s....
Sometimes a track is easier for a 250 than 450. On a 250 You sometimes have jump combos that You just hit wide open in X gear. And on 450's You have to have more throttle control and almost never hit stuff wideopen. On the right type of track that could make a difference.
The other thing about comparing 450 heats to 250 main. Track prep happens at various points and the 250 guys likely have a fresh track for their main .
I really don't see a way to accurately compare the riders unless they are on the track at the sametime. Even then, some tracks will favor the smaller bikes some will favor the 450's. It is not very common to have so many 250 guys running faster laps than the 450 guys. I have to think the track was a major factor. Soon enough Deegan will be on a 450 and we can see how his style transfers over. I think he will do fine, but I do not think we will see the big jump in speed that we saw with Jett when he first got onto a 450. Jett's style was made for a 450, while Deegan revs to the moon, a style that fits 250's better.
It would be interesting to see a mixed main event on some tracks. But most of the time its not going to be so lopsided with 250 guys being faster . So most of the time You would get 1 or 2 250 guys with the rest on 450's. It would be an interesting way to make qualifying mean more, have a class title for that top 10 fastest guys, so it would give them all a bigger incentive to go faster in qualifying . Having to worry about bikes of all sizes. It could make for some wild results with up and coming guys getting some results and beating top 450 guys . But I think that most races would just not be as 250 heavy and people would wonder why they even had the class. You might end up with a second 450 main on some tracks with all 450's being the fastest 10 guys.
People are less educated on here than I thought. Sx is a lot diff for lap times 250 v 450. And track dependent. It used to be a lot diff 125 vs 250 as you couldn’t even hit triples sometimes on the 125. Biggest thing is whoops, certain rhythms and corners. Depending on the whoops a 250 may be quicker. Cornering is more cases than not a 250 is going to be better. Most rhythms both bikes do the same rhythm. Like someone noted above there is a lot more guess work on a 450 hitting rhythms. Outdoors is another monster. What Rv did way back when at mxon was very impressive. The way the budds creek start is helped a lot but he really rode the wheels off the rest of that track that caters to 450s.
The regular Joe weekend warriors that insist they need a 450 need to take notice of those lap times. Best 450 riders in the world are maybe a 1/2 second faster than the 250Fs
This post is about having the top 5 fastest riders racing each other.

Track deterioration doesn't explain how Deegan and Davies both lapped within the fastest 5 riders any time on the track - 250 main vs 450 qualifying included - only 3 riders in the 450 class were in the top 5 at any point during the day.
I just want the fastest riders in one race. Give one example in the last 20 years where the top 10 fastest riders, by fastest lap, were all in the "premier" class. We don't have a premier class.
Pic related, 2007 MXdN:
They should have a 3 lap trophy dash with the 6 fastest lap times. Whether they 250 or 450.
Pit Row
Dude are you serious or just trolling?
So the average Joe rides both bikes the same as the top pros? Gotcha. Do you know how much easier it is to ride a 450 vs a 125? Extreme comparison on my end but even more so on yours.
I went back and looked at all of the combined qualifying laps from each round. There have only been 7 out of the 13 rounds with 250 guys being in a top 5 combined. And only 4 of those times had multiple 250 riders in the top 5 OA times . Deegan and Hammaker both had fastest overall lap times as 250 riders at different rounds. But most of the time its been Deegan with the fastest lap when You combine the 2 classes and a 250 is on top. He will be on a 450 next year so that could make even fewer rounds that 250 riders would be in that group of 5.
Hammaker is one of the others that has had a fastest OA on a 250 this year. Deegan's moving up next year . While it would be cool to have some sort of top 5 battle . It will end up being ALL 450's roughly half of the time according to the times form this year.
How about if they only took 1 or 2 guys from the 450 LCQ and then You take the 2 or 3 of the 250 podium and put them into the 450 main. Allow those riders to have a second bike so its ready to go for the 450 main. Sure they would be tired after doing that main. But how else do You do it? Do you run that top 5 battle before the heats? after the 450 main? Between the LCQ's and mains? How would You fit it into the program? I think that unless You made it possible to win more than the regular main win bonuses and title's, that You would have guys trying to not get into those top 5 battle races so they save energy and are not risking injury for a race that means nothing points and $$ wise. You could make some sort of title for it if You could find the time and find money to fund some bonus. And that may change things up. But You'll also most likely have different guys in there and only a couple that are in it every weekend and the title would likely be a runaway.
I do think it would be super cool to do at the races that have a high percentage of 250 guys inside the top 5 OA lap times. But I think there would be a lot of pushback from riders and teams . And like I said half of the time it would be all 450 guys and Your able to see them race each other every weekend.
Can we stop pretending the 250 class is the feeder/developmental series now?
