I'm absolutely dumbfounded that people are struggling with the distinction between the yellow acerbis markers used to generally mark a motocross track and markers used to delineate the inside and outside of a split section in supercross. Crossing a split lane is an absolute no-no, as was explained to the riders. You can keep arguing about the proper penalty until you're all blue in the face but the infraction is black and white and irrefutable.

They should have put red lead in lights there

Actually they went away from the yellow Acerbis markers before last season and the markers for outdoors and SX have been white since. I don’t disagree with the infraction and rule should be black and white, the problem is they haven’t been black and white in their decisions so far this year and have made head scratching calls and non-calls….it’s the inconsistency of how the AMA has enforced their rules that is the issue and this is just another example and that is what is upsetting…and now Matthes says they are no longer talking to the media about it…they need to follow all the rules all the time consistently they have created this all on their own and deserve all the criticism that they are receiving….I really didn’t think anyone could do a worse job than John Gallhager….Yet here we are.

No violation then because obviously you can cross a split section if the lead in lights are on except for the circumstances when you can't because they aren't and stuff. lol

I'm not here to defend the AMA they are a mess, but if I'm in control of my motorcycle I'm not plowing through the split section fence because I know that's an automatic penalty.

I hope he challenges it just like RC did.

The video I saw was far worse... went from the farrr left to missing the first marker entirely and running over the next two markers... he basically did what they didn't want, an extreme last second lane change... definitely deserved... just odd they actually called it on the cringe lord... must be the ama showing "honda" that ya we penalize star once every blue moon..

Not sure why you got downvoted so much, because what you said is correct and there’s plenty of evidence on these pages and elsewhere to show it.
There’s four markers in total, Deegan goes between the first and second markers, and runs over the second and third markers. Clear as day.
Obviously there’s plenty who don’t agree with the rule itself, and that’s okay, but it’s a clear infringement of the rule, and the penalty was awarded according to the rule, so that part of it should not be in question.

As I said I'm not here to defend the AMA. If the AMA saw video of another racer going through the markers and chose not to issue a penalty I'll be the first in line to call them out. But when they do something right? I don't get the outrage and I definitely don't get the comparison to the nationals.

There is a video out there that show multiple riders doing exactly what Deegan did without penalty…they did get Deegan, Marchbanks and one other rider, the others were not penalized…do you feel that they got the call right on Ferry? Do you think they should have penalized Friese and Moranz  two weeks ago? How do you feel about the Red Cross/red light fiasco before that? They either have to enforce them all by the book or give leeway…they can’t do both and retain credibility…They have been a complete shitshow this year…

If the AMA was aware of other violations and issued no penalty they were wrong. I don't agree with the Ferry penalty at all. The lead in light thing was unnecessarily complicated and in that regard they were wrong. I could go on but you get the point. The AMA is having a rough go and the Deegan call may be the only thing they've done right in the last several weeks.

Just because the AMA is inconsistent with issuing penalties doesn't mean Deegan & Marchbanks didn't break the rules.

To everyone obsessed with the track markers, take that out of the equation, hitting the markers had nothing to do with the penalty. If he'd have hit the inside line on the left turn, drifted wide and crossed the markers, but came back and still hit the outside on the right turn, he'd be fine. Instead, he hit the inside line on the left turn, then crossed over and hit the inside line on the right turn, and that's against the rules on a split lane. Doesn't matter if he gained an advantage or not, the rules say that's a no-go.

You guys are just all anti-white markerist.  Luckily the marker popped back up and was okay…but can you be too careful when vulnerable markers are involved??  Penalty?  Take away a race win and lose the rider at least 30k.  Reasonable.

Meanwhile in other news, an Asterisk medic is in critical condition after (rider name redacted) jumped on the medic while rendering aid to a downed rider.   (rider name redacted) had jumped on a Red Cross flag but thought it was optional so…..no penalty received.

I’m glad the AMA is part of our sport!

…yes…I made up the last part……
