Woodpeckers have been getting more and more common at my riding spot, only trouble is they are killing the cherry trees. A good mix of corn and soybean fields, older growth forests and areas with significant underbrush makes a good home for all kinds of wildlife. Tons of deer, rabbits, squirrel, foxes, owls. Unfortunately there's more coyotes and ticks than there were 25 years ago too. My kids love pushing over dead trees when we are out riding, found this ugly sucker under a rotted stump back in the fall, it was big about an inch in diameter and 6 inches long.

Ticks are a bitch around here.

Had a tree guy come out this weekend while I was gone and took out five trees I had marked.

Now I need to get the chainsaw out and get them cut up and stacked before those little bastards come out in force.

I've seen deer around here with dozens of them around their head and face.

Sad.

Always thoroughly check for them, my brother in law got Lyme disease, it paralyzed his face (he recovered after a couple months) it's no joke.

1 1/2 of five downed trees cut up.

Two 80' pines to start off.

You had me thinking about frikkin ticks the entire time.

Thank you very much.

😉

As far as wildlife, squirrels are really pissed off right now.

...the last time I saw one of these "blood-squirters" (defensive) in my area was probably over two decades ago.

I’ve seen quite a few of these guys on my hikes in the Mojave desert just south of Ridgecrest. You don’t see them when you ride because they don’t run off and they blend in so well , just like this sidewinder. I’ve almost stepped on a few of them.

I don't have a picture yet, but we have a pair of Bald Eagles near our house. One circled the house yesterday and disappeared after a minute, must have found a rabbit or something. I've see a lot of them lately along the I-40 corridor.

Saw these two today at the end of my driveway. First time in several years.
