Over the past few weeks, I have seen multiple states try to enact bans on firearms, magazine capacities, etc. In my state, CT, we have had a 10+ mag ban and AWB since 2013. We require a permit for all things gun-related. Some laws were passed in 2023 that would have caused legal owners of certain rifles to face felony charges if they didn't jump through the hoops that the state wanted them to. This past Wednesday, our legislature proposed two bills, HB-5043, which aims to ban the sale of "convertible firearms," e.g., glocks, as well as H.B. 5436, which aims to expand the definition of "firearm" to include major components (frames, barrels, slides).
It seems like these ideas are sweeping the country, with some states facing all of this for the first time this year. "Shall not be infringed," seems to have no weight to it these days. What do we think, will things get better? Will the crime go down, or will it just get more difficult to purchase and own until it's easier to just give up trying?
It's not going to reduce crime of any type, including crimes committed whilst in possession of a firearm. Criminals by definition do not obey the law. Therefore the only people those laws will affect are the people who obey them,
So, if you’re a multi time criminal that commits a crime with a unregistered firearm, you’re arrested and back on the streets, but if you’re a law abiding citizen with a registered firearm and defend yourself with it, you’re arrested, spend a long time in jail, and will probably be bankrupt from attorney fees and court fees. Makes complete sense.

I'm not against a permit required to carry or purchase, I just wish there was more reciprocity with it. I fear that our rights as legal gun owners will only become fewer and fewer each year. They’re hellbent on putting laws on top of laws.

I hope some of these states get some of this garbage passed and quickly so it can find its way to Supreme Court and 2A groups can keep stacking wins there. Get so much case law on the books that it's game over. These laws are all total jokes and just grandstanding. Can't make a reasoned argument for any of them and gun owners aren't the monolithic group they used to be.
Keep playing the long game. Wasn't long ago that concealed carry was barely a thing, there was nationwide assault weapons ban, $200 tax stamps for suppressors.....
Constitutional carry everywhere should be the thing gun owners focus on. Concealed carry reciprocity is nice but still gives up too much to people who hate you. Shouldn't have to pay the government a fee to exercise a right. Isn't this exactly what democrats argue with voter ID?
As long as we're blowing up girls schools in the middle east I'll keep carrying everywhere I go and I don't even bother knowing the laws related to it anymore. I let my carry permit expire once my state went to constitutional carry.
It comes down to one question: Would you rather be judged by 12 or carried by 6? Make your decision and act accordingly
What if being judged by 12 has the same effect on the things you care about. You’re still in jail, you lose your job, your family is in ruins.
Thankfully I live in a 2A open carry state.

Before it was, I did have a permit, and spent lots of time at a private range with LEO friends. GF is also a damn good shot.
I agree, we shouldn't have to jump through government hoops in order to "self protect".
My only wish is that those who do are well experienced with what's strapped to their hip.
If you are well educated on and understand the laws specific to your State when its appropriate to use lethal force, (this varies a LOT from state-to-state, ie Castle Doctrine or Stand-Your-Ground, and there is lots of myth passed around by ill informed bubbas out there) only use a weapon when its truly warranted, know exactly what to do and say after the event if you ever do have to use lethal force, and you have a firearms/self defense versed attorney on retainer, you aint gonna be in prison.

There is always that potential problem to your point. But just because that exists doesnt mean Im gonna roll over and let some meth head kick in my front door and beat me into the morgue or ER with a club or some other crap like that.
Some people are content cowering in the closet dialing 9-1-1 and hoping. I ain't wired that way.
My sister is a retired prison guard down by Chattanooga so she carries and she made the comment that I thought was interesting and it was that she will not go into states where she can not carry.
OK I have been hearing the political talk over and over again of there are going to take our guns away forever. Yet its never happened and never will. Gun industry loves it because it gives them a boost in guns and ammunition sales.
In Washington State , they limited the number of rounds a fire are can have at 10 rounds. Bump stocks are illegal here and you cannot buy an AR15 or any parts for them. But they are not illegal to own. This has been in effect for 3years or more. I saw this coming years prior and went on a building program.
