Wanted to see what some people on here thought about this. I was replacing the counter shaft seal on my 24 KX450 (64 hours). The collar ended up being seized and impossible to remove so I drilled a hole in the counter shaft seal and ran a screw into the hole so I could pull the screw and pull the CS seal out. I was able to get the CS seal out but I f’d up and ended up running the screw too deep and poked the seal of the bearing that sits just behind CS seal. Just trying to figure out if this is  a major issue or if I should I run it and see what happens. I’ve noticed that other brands don’t have a sealed bearing so I’m curious why Kawi has a sealed bearing there. Any input is much appreciated. Thank youIMG 0857 2.jpeg?VersionId=jPtNejOpDt90tHzdIMG 0858 5IMG 0859 0.png?VersionId=5pgIbLZ96kfRJkDzzgvguByH97

I’m sure it would be fine. The collar wasn’t seized if it removed easily once the seal was gone. It is a major pita to get out. Takes a lot of wiggles with channel locks and patience sometimes.

Yeah I’m just going to run it and see what happens. I change the engine oil every 2 hours and change the filter every other oil change so I’ll be monitoring the condition of the oil and if I notice anything I’ll be splitting cases. That collar did come off once I sprayed some penetrating fluid on it and I wiggled it back and forth but that was after I had already removed the seal.In the future I’m going to spray penetrating oil on the collar/splines and let it sit over night before I even attempt to remove anything.

Well it’s 2026 now. Curious what mapping everyone is still using today. I’ve had the Chavez map since I got the bike, but looking to play around with everything again soon.

I saw Chavez at Anaheim this weekend.  I wonder if he knows how many of us run his map.

I’m currently replacing the clutch on my 2025 KX450SR with a full Hinson clutch. During the disassembly I pulled the push rod and later read in the manual that I shouldn’t have removed the push rod because engine oil could get into the seals of the master cylinder and damage them. I reinserted the push rod with some grease on it and I’m assuming I need to inspect the master cylinder. Thoughts?

Did you not drain the oil before replacing the clutch? Regardless just clean the master cylinder with contact cleaner and see if it bleeds and works. You're probably fine. Unless you tried to use it and bleed it then who knows

Side note - my homie has a 25 model with 412 hours. 3/4 of that is OHV and enduro stuff, but not one major engine component has failed and he has yet to change the top or bottom end. Obv clutch plates and stuff.

I used to be scared of the reliability when I switched from Aussie to Kawi, but so far even my normal wear parts on my bikes have been comparable to my Huskies.

So I did a deep dive after I made my initial post and if oil gets near the slave cylinder there is a possibility for the slave cylinder to hydro lock. My plan is to pull the slave cylinder and clean any oil that may have made it past the seal when I removed the push rod. I also plan on replacing the push rod seal just to be safe. I really don’t want my clutch to hydro lock this year.  And to answer your question, yes I drained the oil.

My 24 has 64 hours. Zero issues. I ride it pretty hard too. My 25 is new. I love both

Cool. You're probably okay. But doesn't hurt to have peace of mind and rebuild it all

Did you do all of this at the same time or add the piston afterwords? Picking up a 26 next week I plan on an ecu, pipe, and power flow. Considering a HC piston and was curious how much of an improvement it makes

Heys guys. I purchased a full Hinson clutch that was gently used and I was told it would fit a 24-26 kx450. The Hinson part numbers are for a 2019-2020 KX450 and I reached out to Hinson and they confirmed the Hinson components will fit in my 25 KX450. My concern is that the gear installed on the back of the Hinson basket is different when compared to my 25 KX450SR OEM basket/gear. I did some research and it looks like the gear installed on the Hinson is off of a 2021-2023 KX450. Does anyone know if the 2021-2023 gear on the Hinson basket will work with 2025 KX450SR? I’ve attached pictures of the Hinson basket and the OEM 25 KX450 SR basket.IMG 0958 7.jpeg?VersionId=yKzV3EsZoK.Gu.yoFWaQIMG 0954 6.jpeg?VersionId=3fBhsfPbBQoHukQLW7nYs7XIMG 0949 4IMG 0950 4.jpeg?VersionId=EF0IjYS

I can’t speak for Hinson, but the rekluse from my 21 fit my 24.

So you removed the clutch basket gear from your 2021 KX450, installed it on a Rekluse clutch basket, and then essentially installed it on a 2024 KX450?

Just grabbed a 25 KX450. This is my first Japanese race bike since a 1999 RM125, I've been on Euro bikes since 2003.

Triple clamp pinch bolt torque - Manual states 23nm for top and bottom clamps? This seems obscene coming from typical 17nm top and 12nm bottom clamp torques. What is everyone running?

Edit: I've also been trying to get the forks apart to replace the springs, I generally 3d print all my suspension tools and have never had an issue, but I could not get the fork caps to break free for the life of me. Just skimming through the manual and they call for 76nm for the fucking fork caps? That is insane. Anything more than hand tight + a smidge is unnecessary.

I’m here in the US, so I work off ft/lbs, and the manual calls for 17 ft/lbs of torque top and bottom.  That is within a pound or two of every bike I’ve ever owned. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seems like all Japanese bikes range from 15 to 17.

Curious to know the thoughts on the HC piston as well.

My 24 started making a noise in the bottom end at 61 hours. I'm fucked.

I don't remember posting about problems in this thread, you might be thinking about my 22.

My 24 started making a noise from the bottom end on the clutch side. Sounds like a loose header type of noise, header and everything is tight. I think the bottom end is going out, time for a rebuild.

Let me start off by saying I love my 24 kx450 and if what I’m about to explain ends up being not worth the money to fix, I and going to get another kx450.

Saturday I was at our local track and first two motos went great. On the third I was going up to a jump and the bike hit what, at the time, felt like a false neutral. I was in third gear at the time. So the bike wouldn’t move so I used my momentum to get to the side of the track as the bike was free moving as if I was in neutral. Once on the side of the track I pushed down trying to go into first and it never happened. Shift up for shits and giggles and it does engage into second gear. I was far away from my truck so I rode the bike back to the truck and everything felt fine. Killed the bike as soon as I got back and started seeing if I could get first to grab. The answer to that is no. Washed her and took her to my mechanic. Will let yall know the diagnosis once I know. I told my mechanic if it’s looking like it would be over 3k to fix to put it back together and ima buy a new one and pay him for the diagnostic.

Have you rebuilt it in any capacity? Top and or bottom end?

2/23/2026 9:07am

Im having rear brake issues on my 25 SR. This bike has 7 hours on it. In the second moto on the second lap of a race a week ago the rear brake locked up solid. It stayed locked up for about 15 minutes and finally let loose. I bled the system and replaced the oil with DOT 5 oil. I checked to make sure the rotor wasn't bent. Yesterday I rode the bike and it happened again almost right away. I got the bike back to the truck and opened the bleed screw and the brake freed up right away. Im not a brake dragger and yesterday I was really conscience of my boot position but it happened a couple of times yesterday within 10 minutes of riding so I parked it. Any ideas?

Not yet. I was going to do it this summer when it got hot. Might have stretched her too far. I did a piston at 120 hours on my 19 kx450 and it looks great so I figured I’d stretch this one a bit longer. Only thing I’ve done to her is clutches and she has been great up to this point.
