Heads up displays on eyeglasses are coming; at some point I expect a rider will be able to decide where on the track to receive a pitboard message momentarily. Not to mention track alerts - red cross flags. Don't debate me on the safety of having something obstruct your vision, because yes it's a tradeoff on whether or not it better or worse.

Yea, but consumer versions priced under $500 are not a thing yet. It is coming, both SNAP and Meta are investing heavily. The current Oakley and Rayban Meta glasses are just lightweight cell phone cameras / bluetooth headsets, but no heads up display. But in a year or two this will be the next growth thing in consumer products.
just spitballing here, but typically the mechanic's area is in a section where there's 2-4s of clear track (straight). Couldn't the intercoms be programmed to only work in this area? Your guy rides by and you can yell your pitboard message at them...and that's it? Seems like a reasonable middle ground.

The last thing i would want in my ear in the middle of a rhythm section is a mechanic who cant see most of the track , telling me shit i dont need to know. This isnt Nascar.
There are no series anywhere that i know of that allow radio comms for motorcycles. There is a good reason for that . MotoGP uses dash messages, that is as close as it gets.
I was going to ask if the riders are even able to see the pitboard that well given the speeds they're going along with the multiple pitboards out at any given time and the chaos going on around them.
Do the mechanics put the pitboard out every single lap? If not, I wonder how many laps out of a single race the pitboard is used.
Can't disagree with that. How about the comm is only active in that small area where the mechanics would normally stand with a pit board?
exactly my suggestion above. They go past the mechanics for maybe 2-4 seconds. That's all that's necessary to yell the gap behind them and current place.
