Back in November I came across a picture of an old post a guy in the Uk made 7 years ago of this ex 1995 husaberg factory fc 580 team bike . I noticed by the pics it had a lot of the correct rare parts the team ran , spes exhaust , gold nit forks , aluminum billet engine guards . Also had JS stamped in the engine cylinder head and marked 580cc which is not the production engine size but the engine size Smets and the factory team ran, production was 501 or 600. Also engine had fim inspection marks . I was able track down the owner and purchased the bike . It’s stripped down now and headed to Canada now. Will update on restoring it once I get it here .

Awesome bike, looking forward to an update when it arrives.
Nice bike with awesome parts! ✌️
Really itching to get it here . Been looking for one forever and when I seen the pics of this one I knew I needed it. Knowing how rare they’re and having all the ex factory team parts on it I knew be hard to find another . I was lucky and found a nos set of graphics for it and seat cover on eBay . And found poster of Smets racing one .

I was never in love with Husaberg, but I still remember that agressive sound of Smets bike in Loket back in the day. Amazing

Great find!
I love love love boutique bikes, especially 90/00s bikes. Will be following this thread!
Thanks buddy me to . I grew on Jap bikes but I remember when I was 13 or 14 back in 2001 drooling over the FBF husky team bikes and wanting even a stock one but couldn’t get them here in Ontario Canada . But in the last few years I was able to find two ex team FBF bikes and I was able to find a 1986 tm and a 87 cagiva wmx . I really like the euro bikes from the last 80s and 90s early 2000s . They just look badass
I restored a 2000 TM300EN a few years ago, I’ll have to get some pictures. It’s even blue plated!
did you find the tm in Canada ? Or get it out of the USA ? I have to get both husky’s and tm from USA which was easier then people said would be I just drove down and was able cross back no problem just with hand written receipt. Long as it’s 15 years and older mx bike you don’t need title or importing paper work to cross back in
My 300EN was originally from BC. I can't imagine many were imported back then.
I had a 144EN in 2020 that I imported from the states without issue. As long as you can prove it's not a road legal MC the process is easy.
Got news today the bike should be here in Canada on the 14th getting really excited for her
Hi
If someone sold you this as a ex Smets factory bike I’m sorry to say I think you have been scammed.
I can’t see one single factory part from the 1995 bike on it. Let alone any factory part from any other year. The clutchcover could perhaps be from the Vertemati years, but in that case doesn’t fit the rest of the bike.
I’m not here to argue, just do a good job googling for old pictures and have a look for yourself.
It’s not ex smets bike but does have the FIM inspection marks on engine and exhaust and engine is stamped 580 which I knew team ran 580 cc I know exhaust is super rare and has FIM inspection marks and so does engine . I think it’s pieces of ex team parts on this bike which I’m ok with which is still super rare and hard to find .
Cool bike. I had and fc600 I purchased from old vet back in 2000. That was a beast. More like a tractor. It was my first fourstroke and I decided it had to be big. Was difficult to fire up. Once I figured it out, it worked good. Was scary how fast it was. Tons of low end tractor power. The more I road that thing, the more I admired the strength of Joel Smets. Went to Husaberg factory in Sweden (1996), while visiting my relatives. My first visit to a motorcycle factory. Smile tight knit group of people, making a wonderful product. I believe steen Hansen in Edmonton brought the bike over, he sold it to a former Canadian Mx champ. Who then sold it to me. I sold the bike a few years later. What I remember it was tractor like. Good luck.
Thanks buddy I’m so excited for it . It’s cool hearing from another Canadian that had one , they must of been super rare here in Canada
Did it show up yet? You have more faith in humanity than I do….
Not yet, shipping company messaged me yesterday it’s in Toronto 4 hours from me now so hopefully be here tomorrow or Monday , I been lucky so far I bought a cagiva over Facebook from Germany 3 years ago and had send money guy first befor he stripped it and shipped it and same with the berg but lucky so far . I did get screwed over on some cagivas from a guy In uk few years back he sent me pics of bikes that weren’t even his and I paid him and I ended up showing pics of bikes on a cagiva group and a guy messaged me saying I’m getting screwed over as the one bike in the pic was his . I did get some money back from the guy but not whole amount !!! It sucks as you need to find abd buy these euro bikes over there as non really made it over here to Canada and not many to USA
I have had good luck buying from guys in the UK, Japan, Holland. for parts only… I would be nervous about a complete bike!
Pit Row
I had my 2021 ISDE bike stolen in Italy by a EnduroGP mechanic while I was waiting for it to get shipped back to Canada. That one hurt.
Sweet collection you've got wow. Moto Exotica!!
Working on a 2001 TM at the moment, but def miss my Italian Husky's.
Where in Canada are you?
Got the bike back home to Canada found more interesting things on engine was all casted and billet and also markings , was able find Smets ex factory husaberg mechanic on Facebook he confirmed was one of their engines

If you look at post below you will see Glenn Woodman Smets ex factory mechanic at husaberg confirmed was one of their engines at least
It was clipped out he said the team manager sold parts and bikes to the Uk importer after so makes sense one ended up in Uk
I’m not here to talk down your bike. I just wanted you to know.
Glenn wrenched for Smets 1997-99, those years the bike had the motor with oilpump. Yours is 1996 or older, and without oilpump. Different motor.
The pictures you are putting up is the 1997 bike.
The two piece special clutchcover is very cool, but I think you’ll have a hard time finding a picture with it on a Smetsbike. Cool if you do, should be easy to spot. I think it’s italian.
All Husabergcases are sand cast, nothing special.
This is Joel’s 1995 factorybike.
600cc so different motor, if yours not 3speed with neutral at the bottom its different gearbox, different clutchcover, different suspension, different wheels, different tank, different scrouds, different seat, different fenders, your frame is missing his modifications so different as well, different subframe, and although the exhaust is SPES its still different from yours as well.
Enjoy your bike, it’s very nice. But I still can’t se a factory part on it.
I’m knew to husaberg I’m a collector of cagivas and Italian Husqvarna . I was told by Glen it is a ex team motor but bike isn’t . Here is a pic of Smets 95 bike with same cover as mine . Glen was with the team in 96 they would have still had 95 stuff laying around so I’m going believe his word as he is a legit ex factory husaberg mechanic and was Smets . It make sense my motor ended up
In Uk as the team manager was doing shady deals with uk importer that’s what Glen said so that’s how one of the ex team motors ended up over there . So I’m thinking like he said it was prob a ex team motor put in a bike by the Uk importer . The guy I got it from in Uk said it was Colin Hill he got it from the original importer of bergs in the uk and vertimati and that Smets used to stays with him when he was over in Uk . I appreciate your input as I’m knew to bergs but m going listen to the ex factory mechanic . And you can’t just go off one pic of a gp bike as they were always different as you can see by pics below the Smets bikes have same cases and covers as mine not the stock cases in the pic you posted which I’m sure they used some times also
And one more thing Smets never ran a 600cc in 1995 he ran a 580 and 585 cc and which you seen my motor is stamped 580 with fim inspection marking. I’m not trying be rude but I can tell you want to try talk it down as much as you can . But I’m really happy and having smets legit factory husaberg mechanic say it is his one of his old motors I’ll take his word. Do you also own one ?
Nice 👍🏻
Off course you should listen to a factory mechanic over me, no problem, enjoy the bike.
I would be very interested in knowing the bore/stroke of the 580 or 585 as your cylinder says. I have never seen one. Please let me know if you open the motor.
530 (pre 93 501 crankshaft with milled down 600 cylinder) was popular with the italians (Vertemati) and the racing department here in Sweden. I have a couple of those.
And also 430 (approx) with 400 crankshaft and milled down 501 cylinder. I raced one of those in the 90’s, and Smets tested as well.
Your 2piece clutchcover with the drainplug is special. The Italians built some motors with separate gearboxoil and clutchoil, might be one of those? Would be very special and HIC (Husaberg Italia Corse/Vertemati) in that case. Check cover for HIC stamp/cast.
