Allowing 50k electric cars a year to come in, 3% of our auto market, to allow our farmers to export canola to a new market.

Ask an American Soy farmer and a Canadian Canola farmer how their government is working for them at the moment. Bet you get some pretty different answers.

This is something that has been nagging at me for a little while and I never could really put it into words well until I heard someone talking about this over the long weekend.  It's paraphrased so a little bit of the wording is mine but the general thoughts are a mix of mine and whoever was on in the background while cleaning the garage.

----------------------------------------------------

The only reason the U.S. would need full control of Greenland is if NATO is being treated as disposable, and we are planning to jump out.

As things stand, there’s no strategic deficiency.  We already have basing rights, there is Danish sovereignty with Greenlandic self-rule, and NATO’s collective defense. Nothing about that setup requires ownership or unilateral control.

So when 'strategic importance' is used to justify talk of control, it’s not a neutral observation, it assumes something else is coming. Namely, a future where alliance guarantees don’t matter, or aren’t intended to survive.  Specifically the NATO alliance.

If NATO remains intact, this discussion is pointless.
If Trump intends to pull the U.S. out (or hollow it out) then Greenland suddenly becomes a very different conversation.

That seems to be the point that none of the politicians or talking heads are really addressing hard enough.

Are any of you who supported the orange king last election disappointed in all this craziness?

I doubt many of the usual suspects here would admit it.

I voted for Trump and support him as much now as then…The left dramatizes everything to get their base all worked up..Most self thinkers understand this and are able to see through it. Same happened his first term- surprised you folks fall for it again..

I’d be willing to bet you folks believed Trump colluded with Russia..(heck I had family members who did)..I know the type..

I mean it could be worse, Trump could be aligning the USA with China like our idiots to the north..

“The left dramatizes everything”

You really don’t think demanding an allied territory be handed over, refusing to rule out military action against a NATO ally, starting a trade war against some of your closest allies because they won’t hand it over, and in all likelihood bringing about the downfall NATO which has been the lynchpin of peace in Western Europe for 75 years is dramatic? Really? I would hate to think what you think is dramatic 🤣

Not everything is left vs right. Some things just are dramatic whether you support the idea or not, whether you love the guy making the call or hate him.

Funny how even at the height of the cold war when Russia had a significantly stronger military,  Greenland didn’t “need” to be part of the US. The US and NATO being able to defend it however they saw fit was more than enough.

A “self thinker” would surely wonder what has changed since then. I’ll give you a hint, it’s rare and underneath the ground Haha

What’s it like to be stuck in the 20th century? Tell us, please, what HASN’T changed? Fuck me…there are some amazing arm-chair newspaper generals up in here. Worse, yet…network news and PBS WWII documentarians looking at the world thru Viet-Nam era optics…again…fuck me.

Here…try this…welcome to 20fucking26…and this is from an old fucker…

A strategically important location, notably due to changing sea lanes and Basic Polar Access, should be left in the hands of yet another socialist country that sits on its fucking hands and can’t do a fucking thing to slow Russia down…in their own fucking backyard?

Oh, I know, let’s let The Committee of Euro’s that have fucking failed in Ukraine, fucking failed in defending their own primary comm-links, fucking failed in stopping or ANY effective defending against outright Russian domination of Nordic Polar Sea Lanes and even allowing land encroachment in Scandinavia…

We should leave the defense of The Western Hemisphere to those ass clowns? The Davos Private Jet Set? The Do-Nothings of The Hague? The NATO noise-makers that end up calling The Donald…”Daddy”?

About those Comm-links: maybe we don’t all know about the numerous destroyed under-sea cables as sabotaged by Russia and China? Sat-link interference…? No worries. It’s all avail with a little looking.

How is that no one sees the new defense strategy for the Western Hemisphere from the standpoint of the next 25-50-100 years?

Meh…fuck it. Go back to your ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC intellectual mind-fuck. That’s your world. Good luck with that.

But, I digress…ok…gotta go check email…y’all have a good day.

😂

Ok

And you are right a lot has changed, but let’s not ignore the fact that during the Cold War Russia had a much stronger military comparatively speaking. The security threat to Western Europe is not a new thing. If you don’t think a united group of western countries (albeit acknowledging some issues exist) is stronger than a fractured group, you are huffing something good.

Everything you said about shipping lanes and communications etc is correct, none of this is new, but if only there was a strategic Defence partnership that included the US also 😂

Also funny that you only blame Europe for the Ukraine situation now, because you previously blamed Biden too.
Nothing you said counters my point, demanding an ally hand over territory, threatening allies and starting trade wars is dramatic.

Have a nice day reading your emails, I’ll go back to reading the alphabet of mainstream news and you can go back to reading telegram.

I don’t care about US domestic policy, but I support free trade and a strong united group of western allies who support eachothers interests.

Can you clarify something for me/us?

When you say people here are 'stuck in the 20th century' or using 'Vietnam-era optics', who exactly are you referring to, and which specific assumptions do you think no longer apply?

Basing rights, alliance guarantees, sovereignty, and collective defense aren’t historical nostalgia, they’re the current framework. If you think those are no longer going to exist, that’s a concrete claim of the end of the alliance, not a vibe.

So what, precisely, is outdated and for who?

Yeah, I don’t think he will use military action against NATO, but he is actively starting a trade war against them and demanding the territory be handed over, despite them not wanting to be part of the US.

If that doesn’t sound dramatic to you that’s fine. But like I said, I have seen people here get in a hysterical flap for a lot less.

If you can honestly say you would have supported those actions if they were proposed by Biden I would be shocked.

Donny is like the slimiest sales guy at the car dealership. Some of you guys are so dense you won’t even know what happened until you try and trade your truck in seven years from now.

I do wonder what’s going on behind the scenes that the administration is trying to distract everybody from?

Why does NATO need Greenland?

Seems to me they have much bigger fishes to worry about. . .Putin and Lukoshenko are the dynamic duo.

Lukoshenko knows Putin has been poisoning him, same as Kadyrov. . .

Putin is now paranoid between those two and Ucraine.....how many have fallen out of windows or had sudden heart attacks?

It's a matter of time before Putin falls....or kills everyone.

Donny is like the slimiest sales guy at the car dealership. Some of you guys are so dense you won’t even know what happened until you try and trade your truck in seven years from now.

I do wonder what’s going on behind the scenes that the administration is trying to distract everybody from?

Do try and keep up. . .you so smart ..

Canada put 100% on evs at the request of trump. It got the country no where with no good faith from trump. What did you expect Canada to do? Sit in the corner and not trade with there second biggest trade partner?

This is completely false- in 2024 Trudeau imposed tariffs on Chinese imports to protect the Canadian auto industry and national security..

I guess those things don’t matter anymore…and tariffs are only bad when Trump does it.

Nice one. You drank the Kool aid. You would likely give ur king a handy if he asked you too. What if anything could that fuck you love so much do to get u not hang off his  nuts? Maybe have a look who buys more junk from China then any other country before you call us idiots. Free thinking? This means you don't always have to agree with the leader you voted for.  Now go fuck off.

There are 60,000 people total residents.

Most have seen or been sterilized by Danes.

It's not heavily populated and is critical for security of the Northwest passage.

We can offer far more than the Danes.

Plus. . .rare earths are cool....they make strong magnets.

What do we need strong magnets for ?!?!

Brad , gotta say, you’re right . Trudeau did install the tariffs on Chinese evs mirroring the US tariffs on Chinese evs at the time. Good call.
