If you could build a works bike...

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 3:13am
... which one would it be?

For 2011 season I'm planning on building a replica works bike (from 95 onwards, preferably 2 stroke) to race instead of buying a new bike. Its gonna be a bit of fun both on and off the track as I'm an amateur racer.

I can't decide which works bike to base my purchase on, so the reason for this thread is that I need some ideas...

Be cool to see photos of your suggestions as well.

Thanks

Shayne King's 96 KTM 360

If you're talking AMA factory bikes a 95 or 96 Honda CR.

Thanks for the input. Reed's YZ is a thing of beauty, even as understated as it is... although Ricky Johnsons '86 ride is tempting, even as old as it is!

Replica? Just buy the real thing. My buddy still wants to sell Jeremy McGrath's actual Team Peak Pro-Circuit CR250 that Jeremy raced at 4 or 5 east coast SX's back in 92. Still has AMA Tech tags on it from 92.

Not a 250 guy? You could buy his fully restored Pro-Circuit CR125 with all the good stuff including the alloy tank.

I wish I still had my '02 CR250. I plan to get another of that body style in the future.

Don't even think KTM piece of shit back then and even worse now. I had a 83 495 and it nearly made me quit riding, financilly and mentally. dont fight thru life just float. By a Honda. Not the 97 maybe but then pick your weapon and have fun.

I'm revising my statements, for the record:

Due to the influences of a certain cone-pipe building off-road-riding ol' scholl manufacturing Guru...

I -AM- building a KTM 2-Stroke 300 SX w/ Electric start...from a 2011 XC (That seems to be the easiest way).

It will be sub 200 pounds. Trust me, it'll be a whole lot easier than the 4-Stroke "Light-Weight" project bikes...waaaaaaaay easier.

I think the hardest part is gonna be gettin' the battery that I really want. Probably have to get one of my guys to build one.

Goals:

1. 195# in MX Trim w/ E-Start & Battery.

2. 212# in Off-Road Trim complete w/ 3 gallon tank, HID-light(s), kick-stand, Off-Road skid, O-Ring...etc.

The off-road versions gonna be a bitch!

Yeah, I know, I'm full of shit.

This will be fun to watch, you do plan on documenting this along the way don't you? I don't see it being too far fetched considering the 199 lb. 300 that FMF did a year or so ago. I know it wasn't e-start, but that bike didn't really seem to have a whole lot done to it from a standpoint of trick lightweight bits.

Better idea, I'll sponsor a new 2011 KTM150 (if I could find one, they seem to be all sold out with all these people speaking with their wallets) and you can donate all the trick shit and "we'll" build a 179lb. 150SX.Smile

Newmann, Barber Cycles in TN has a 2011 150SX 931-796-2298, ask for Don. Also, look at your Team Peak post and picture, 92 not 02 was the year. Wink

Hey, Newmann!

You no-good so-n-so...How dare you question my Ignorance! I know D-Davis and he said...blah, blah, blah...etc.

Actually, Big-D's bike is the source of this infection. Expanding on that is my intent; yet, it's the Off-Road variant that will be the real Bitch: Hand-Guards, Skid...etc. outta Carbon & all the same Ti as the MXer...even Pegs. Still, I'd like to keep it under the old 212# MX weight std. That'll be a challenge; and, there's always that damn battery!

We'll see.

Now, since you've decided to step in the crap!

I can get a 2011 150 for a bit less than retail, out the door, including CA title.

So, are you still game?

I thinkin' we go for the old sub-170# record?

I'm jus' sayin'....

Correction made! At my age, that 9 and 0 seem to be getting closer and closer together. Starting to look the same too!
