Just received an E-mail that Perris Raceway is shutting down due to the economy. Is this for real? I have raced there since I was 14 years old. 16 Years.

There's already one thread on this, but...was the email from a valid source?

It says from Lisa Nordstrom from their Marketing Account. Here is a copy of the e-mail.

From reliable sources I've heard from it's unfortunately true. Perris two years ago was one of the busiest tracks. But within the past year or so it's been a ghost town or like a private ride day there.

Kinda of thinking it had less to do with the economy and more to do with management.. Just a guess though, there have been rumors about things not going so smooth there for a while..

I have raced at Perris twice this year. It does not suprise me that they are shutting down. The facility has not changed much in the past 20 years of so.

It was the oldest MX track in Calif.

I started the other thread as I was planning on riding their tomorrow AM. I was told by a reliable soarce that they would be closing. I emailed them to find out the thruth and unfortunately my email seemed to have sparked them to send out the official news that the track will be closed due to the economy. Bummed.

Looks like I'll be heading to Milestone or elsewhere.

What happened to Johnson and Tortelli running the joint?

Or did that never happen? I never kept up.

I guess I will have to bust out some videos of the GFI 10,000 dollar suitcase races........

Back in the 2 stroke days.

That's a shame. Fun, decent sized track. Seemed like a sketchy area on the way there, but I may be wrong.

I scuffed up a brand new Moto 8 there after getting passed by Jeff Emig going into a turn. Happiest crash I've ever had.

I thought they had owned it for a while already? Their 'about' page even says so and it has pictures of them:

"Rick Johnson and Sebastien Tortelli have purchased Perris Raceway in Perris, California. Both Johnson and Tortelli are former factory racers, having won multiple World and AMA Motocross and Supercross Championships. They plan on making Perris Raceway a track beyond all others."

I thought I read somewhere recently that the neighbors have really been complaining (a lot more than usual) about the noise, dust, etc.....maybe that has something to do with it as well?

This is a major bummer. Put in alot of laps there over the years. (Lived in Socal until this year) But with the opeing of Pala, Comp Edge, & Milestone, it seems that these are the busier tracks nowdays because of the variety for all skillsets-

Ive heard thats the main reason people dont really go to...Thats pretty much the reason i have never rode perris or starwest because they were always considered very hard tracks with the triples and stuff....My dad always took me to the fun tracks that have vet tracks and intermediate level tracks available.

Perris Raceway is still open. The lease holder for the MX part of the property is gone. The MX will re-open shortly. In the meantime, there is a speedway race Saturday December 11 at 5 PM, and oval practice on the 18th starting at 2 PM.

Oh definitely, they have been a real pain in the ass. I thought they settled it in court last year, not sure though. In a sense I cannot blame the houses though. Im also not old enough to know whether the houses or the track was there first....

The neighbor problem was solved early this year.

Most of the neighbors ride.

The track has been grandfathered by the City of Perris, and the original "handshake" agreement made with the city in the middle of the last century has been put to paper and made official. Perris Raceway is not going anywhere.

I think you may be confusing Perris with Starwest.

**Edit** My bad, forgot they opened the oval.
