does anyone have some pics of the TF450 transmission parts I could take a look at? Im particularly interested in the drum and the forks. My TF450 has been trully great so far. However it has shifted harder than typical  from new and now with about 12 hrs on it ( all light duty btw) it still shifts the same. I had 2 ktms that shifted similarly (although they didnt jump out or miss, just shifted hard and notchy). It turned out to be uneven fork finger coating thickness that would tilt the gears slightly on their splined shafts. This would cause a sticktion that actually felt grity even though everything looked fine. I suspect we have a similar issue with the Triumphs. A rather simple fix once ya know what to do with it. Also possible the drums may have been machined slighty out of spec? Anyway I may tear mine down this winter and take a look but any pics I could take a look at ahead of time would be appreciated. I will be very suprised at this point if Triumph steps up and takes care of this one so were gona have to figure it out. I would just buy a Blue bike BUT I really like the Triumph chassis and want to make this work!!

I hear ya

If the rest of the bike wasnt great I would do same but my experience with similar issue on the KTM gives a ray of hope there may be a fix.

I was at Echeconnee MX yesterday and talked to a guy about his Triumph experience so far. He was with two other guys that had 450 Triumphs also. One was the RC 25 edition and the other two were 26s. He said they haven't had any transmission issues. He did say that it did shift like his KTM 450 he had prior which was a little notchy under hard acceleration. He really loves the bike so far. I forgot to ask him many others they have on them.

If I’m hearing things correctly it’s hitting false neutrals while shifting under hard-acceleration…?

And it gets worse as time goes on?

yea Ive talked to a few and some are having the issue and some not. This would argue that it may be ? a similar issue as the KTMs I mention above.

Thats why Im asking for some pics of the Triumph shift forks. I want to see if they too are using the sputter coated forks that take time to bed in rather than the more traditional machined surfaces like on jap bikes.

If the coated design I may just give it all more time befor I tear it all down

Im running a 26 TF450X with an extended Yammie shifter. No issues SO FAR Im at 13 hours, it just has the impossible to find neutral sometimes like KTMs do.  I'm theorizing since Im running a 20+ extender shifter it just over powers any issues. I'm on my 3rd oil change and no debris except the very first oil change as is normal.

Saz can you give some detail on how you shift? do u use clutch? are you shifting under full power load? Do u just let off throttle a bit and shift? I supose with 20mil added to lever you just might be forcing it through. BTW is that a stock YZF lever or an extended aftermarket YZF lever?

On mine you can easily feel the notchy sticktion feel if ya put the bike on the stand whle running hold clutch in and using hand shift through the gears. It feels nothing like the two jap bikes I have. They are smooth and fluid by compare

I rarely use the clutch to shift while actively riding. I do the typical clutchless shifting. Letting off the throttle a tiny hair a bit to clutchless shift up, I do the same clutchless shift going down by adding a tiny bit of throttle. Ive also used the quickshifter function without any issues. I can try experimenting this weekend with specific situations. Im running 20mm+ hammerhead shifter from my 25 YZ250F.  My YZ250 honestly had more issues shifting under load than my Triumph.

So update on my end of this. All riders that I know personally have had there bikes repaired. One himself, one another shop did the work and a couple otheres held out till triumph took care of them. Triumph is now taking care of anyone whos having issues it appears.

Most of the issues are the shift drum, forks and the detent being replaced and a new clutch pack.

My recommendation is if its getting to be notchy when shifting 2nd-3rd take it on to have it looked at. Every 15 hours check your clutch plates or if your clutch feels odd for any reason check the fibers. Few of the guys that had issues and also a few just had the clutch issue but seen fiber plates breaking tabs off or having excessive wear.

I want to say this has only been for the 25's. I have not seen or heard of issues with the 26's and have not heard of anyone having issues with the updated 450 parts.

I heard from that guy I talked to at Echeconnee that yes the clutch plates are thin and the tabs can break off. He put in Hinson plates that are thicker and hasn't had any more trouble. His was a 2025.

Thanks motomind

Triump was very good about replacing my clutch and shift star. However I havent heard that they are actually on it with the shifting issues.

Are you saying they are actually replacing forks and drums now??

MXA is saying the 2026 TF450 is shifting poorly. If the only updates are the clutch and the shift star then its likley the issue is still there
