Hi all,
Commenced the build of my 2005 YZ125, which I’ve been collecting as many YoT parts as possible for, the goal being to build a Metcalfe replica. I was fortunate enough to actually meet Brett and see the bike on track at Lake Elsinore and also the Hangtown National - Brett didn't race the motos sadly.
The bike is a 2005 and I’ve actually owned it since 2010, the original owner had ridden it 3x! I've ridden it considerably more than that and sadly neglected it a bit over the years!
Engine will be going off to Roland at Hardcore Racing for a full recondition and I have a ti kit on the way.
Here’s some of the trick parts I’ve got together so far, some of which is direct from Mettys bike - so I'm told:
The front fender is an '06 polisport one, but does have the ever so cool aero scoops - hoping to fit them to the '05 fender.
Suspension will be going to Cera-mx for all the coatings: Kashima upper and gold ti-nitrade lowers on the forks, along with a refresh on the rear shock - (I'll do another post with a suspension question below).
If you have any photos of the bike outside of the thread another member has of the actual bike/ MXA test/ normal google search, that would be helpful! Just so I can see how the bike differed round to round.
Suspension question:
I have KYB SSS suspension, along with the original. The rear shock will be fine, but the issue I'm faced with is the front brake. I have a nice factory carrier with a ti pin, that is for the '05 fork and I'm a bit undecided on going SSS and getting a newer caliper (06+ YZF right?) or running the '05 stuff.
Any opinions welcome!
Cheers
Oooh this’ll be good ! Nice start
The sprocket you have is 2008 team-issue-only Sunstar. Metty's bike would have had blue or raw Renthal.
Yeah I know, more a 'keep item' I just threw up there because the Dragon etching is trick!

This is gonna be good! Trick parts so far
Nice, those air ducts for the front fender are badass.. have you tried lightspeed for the clutch cover guard. I know he had a few left a while back.. you might get lucky and score one..
Sure are!
Good idea, but every pic I have they're just running the stock cover. I guess, a carbon ignition cover is hardly deviating away from making it a replica. Maybe I'll reach out to them!
Cheers
Clutch guard some of them had the carbon clutch guard welded on the frame..
I’m not sure if this will save you any money but there are Rg3 clamps as well.:

Managed to drop the engine and frame off the day after the des nations, just screenshots from Roland’s Insta, but I’m definitely excited! Everything looks so good!

Hello everyone,
Long time no post.. Sadly at the end of '23/ start of 24 my garage was broken into - properly cleared out.
The start of this year - yes a year on, some parts from Garage 11 via a third party were sent to the wrong house number completely. Took me hours of panic to work this out, as the senders details simply showed it was delivered - wasn't until the sender sent me a pic of the parcel they'd sent where I was able to see the numbers were the wrong way round. Sure enough, after collecting this parcel from this neighbours and mentioning motorbike parts, they asked if I'd lost some as their dad had come across this box... Comes out this his house in a dressing gown, unlocks their garage and sure enough - yep, my Costco box with a heap of parts in. Not everything sadly - but some of the irreplaceable parts like the Plasticworks plate. I could have fainted right there. Explained the story, showed him the pics and the police reference numbers off I went with my parts. Guess the thief's were too loaded up with my bikes/ tools to take this box of 'old toot' the unknown person.
Anyway, I will upload all the pics that I have...
Sorry for the disorder in the pics, the uploader seems hell bent on shuffling them up and I can't be doing them one by one.
I'm not calling it completed as there's still lots of little bits to do;
Radiator vent hose length being number one - didn't even notice this as the time.
Hope tank cap and dipstick - They're cool as they are Hope parts, and being a MTB guy I like - had them on the bike since day dot, but think OEM bits are required for the build now.
Fork decals - the guards are ex-YoT, but I'll probably go for the older Enzo/ Kayaba decals.
Front brake line - hose is the same length as stock, can't work out why it's shorter when on the bike.
Wheels - Think I need a set of Envy wheels.
Rear shock - This is the '05 shock in for now as a roller. When I lost my box, I got an Ohlins, which I was going to use, but didn't like the look of. Originally I was going to get the SSS shock coated up, but that was one of the items that missing. After not liking the look of the Ohlins, I put the 05 shock in so I could get the SSS one coated. However, I've had a 2 piece offered to me, so likely go this route, just short of funds right now.
I'd love to actually run the Factory YZ clamps I have, but they're for the bell bottom forks I believe as the lower clamp is humungous - again, don't think I'll be willing to fork out the cash for a set of those - not that they run them on the 125 anyway..
If there's anything else anyone wants to point out to me, parts that may be of interest - please let me know!
Thank you!

Pit Row
Link dosent work, and you´re insta is also gone? The bike is sweeet!
Thanks a lot.
Removed bike check as it got zero interest and I'm properly out in the sticks/ struggling with wifi I wasn't sure how the pics had come out.
Even in the thread there's blanks where there should be a lot of pics and they've failed to load.
I'll re-upload when I'm back home.

Clean build - Love this era YZinger 👍
Not sure if it was mentioned in the build, but are those stripped Xtrig triples? Clear coated? If not, how do they hold up bare? That's a proper look even if not YOT period correct!
Thank you!
Yes, they are cleared and coated Xtrigs.
I do have factory clamps with the mag bar clamps photo'd further up - these were one of the items that had a holiday and I was over joyed to get them back. Only then to realise that the lower clamp is huge - they're for the KYB bell bottom forks I believe, so good job I had the X trigs as I am going to ride the bike and not a fan of running shims.
Pretty rare pic I found from A1 I believe.
Nice build!! That’s one of my favorite looks from back in the day!
Amazing job with this mate! What a story, can’t believe you got a load of parts back, that’s insane!
Great looking bike, keep doing those tweaks as you go to keep it fun…
Thanks Chuck!
For over a year, a random neighbour had a load of YoT bits and it was a box of PC KX parts getting delivered to them in error, combined with a passing comment by me that got them back! Wild. Box had been left in the road and found with the Garmin speed sensor off my road bike.
A crazier story is that I actually located one of my stolen mtb bikes and managed to get it back! No sign of the other stuff and the Police have closed the case again sadly.
Ok, so a little lie about it being “complete” I guess.
Upgrade round 1:
KYB 2 Piece shock
Just dropped it off to the good folks at FTR for a freshen up.
Wondered if I should look at getting it coated or not? Opinions valued..
I also got the Rinaldi kit to go on at some point in the future, along with some bits to sell from the bundle:
that rear brake pedal is awesome.
Just grabbed the same Ti2 shorty off eBay. Couldn't find a proper replacement sticker anywhere so found similar on eBay.
