Pretty good. The riders today couldn't handle those bikes.

Lol, I'm one of those old guys and I agree with you!

Riders today are bigger, stronger, fitter and fully capable of handling those bikes. Admittedly we had longer motos, but the speeds today are waaay faster than back in the day because of the modern suspension, superior handling and more tractable engine power. Big 4 strokes are also much heavier these days and it takes strength to ride one at speed.

Haha I'm a youngin, and I'm gonna disagree with you. There's no way these punk kids could hand a big heavy uncontrollable beast like those 500's. Granted today's are very fit and can handle a bike at high speeds, but you practically said it yourself, it's because of modern suspension, and superior handling and more tractable engine power.

Don't kid yourself, if 500s were all there was to race you'd still see teenagers on them. It's just a bike, not a mythical beast. Kids today could handle them just fine and I'm sure even scrub the damn things.

I remember when you were in the pits on a Sunday at your local race and they ran about 20 classes or so you always knew when the 500s were going off the line. They had a whole different louder sound even if there was only 12 of them.

I rode a CR500AF this year in the Washougal 40+ B class against almost all 4 strokes and and doing it again in 2011.
I just decided I wanted to do something different this year and it was awesome. Every race and practice I was at I had people coming up to me asking questions about the bike. At the amateur national in July, I was sitting on the line for practice with about 80 other 40+ riders and the guy next to my on a 2010 CRF450 looked my bike up and down, looked right at me, and said "Dude, that's the sweetest bike here."

Trust me, kids today would still be racing them and doing well. When I was 19, I weighed 140lbs and was skinny as a rail and I raced a 500. My son is 18 now and weighs 170lbs and is strong as hell. My older sons are even bigger. Kids now are way bigger and stronger on average than they were 30 years ago. They could handle a 500.

And btw, you saying that 500 2 strokes are big, heavy uncontrollable beasts makes it obvious that you have either very little or no experience on these bikes. You really need to ride one before you make a judgment call like that.

Not sayin you wouldn't see teenagers on them, but all these spodes that show up on old ass CRF450's, trying to huck the big double are gonna end up looping to the clouds haha. I just think the riders that rode those as hard and as long as they did back in the day were way more burly and badass than some kid running out of his mom and dad's toy hauler for 15 minutes on a 250F.

Don't forget the 200 thousand dollar motor home that pulled that trailer and took up half the pit area.

There's no doubt they would be able to handle them. I would just like to see the current 450 riders on the 500s.

I was at the Namur and Cingoli 500 GP's (Cingoli, Italy was where Billy Liles broke his leg on the drop off Sad ) in 1990. They were great days and 500's were king.

I was hoping to see Leisk win a World Title but an injury put a stop to that.
