What year was the best Daytona track layout?

This wasn't the best, but it was such a crazy race to watch to the very end

The one's in the 80's that used the natural soil and crossed pit road to add track in the infield area.  Those tracks were brutal.  They also had a full gate of 40.

Other than the couple of switchbacks, this track looks fast…. Need more Eli wheelie through the rollers!

Those were awesome.  By the middle of the day on Wednesday, even the amateurs could blitz them.  Maybe the only whoops I was ever able to actually blitz.😂

Not the best track(s) but, as a kid in Australia, seeing the pics in mags and clips on VHS from the ‘90s and very early 2000s was awesome.

All the sections that had different coloured dirt, the grass in between the dirt/sections; it was all so rad to see.

Old school mx guys were hardcore, but I really think it gets exaggerated sometimes. Reading about old races, there were top riders that would sit out SX races due to illness and nagging injuries all the time.

Now-a-days, there's guys racing with the flu and stomach bugs, guys like Hampshire having bones in his hand removed to keep racing, and guys coming back from gnarly injuries, like the one where Roczen blew out his arm so bad, doctors weren't even sure he'd be able to hold a spoon again.

Maybe that's not a fair comparison; afterall, sports medicine has come a long way since then, and injuries that could have been career ending back in the day, are now pretty routine.

Lap times were close to or over 2 minutes a lap back then at Daytona since the track was longer, so, yeah, 12 laps.

They raced that same layout the next year because they wanted to have it in dry conditions and it was a really good one actually
