Cleaning rust off Nickel plated exhaust

I got a PC pipe off eBay and it has quite a bit of surface rust on the nickel plating. What is everyone using to clean this off?

Find someone with a laser cleaning machine, it will be pristine again in 10 minutes.

That might be more expensive than what I paid for it. Looking for a cheap option.

Scotch Brite pads WD-40 and elbow grease

Steel wool and WD-40 works wonders. I've also used Maxima MPPL.

Hit the rust with muratic acid, then lite scuff with scotchbrite & wd40…

If you haven't had experience with Muratic acid before, use caution that you do not breathe the vapors that come off it as it eats the rust (do it outside and hold your breath!) and wear nitrile gloves. Wipe on/off with paper towels.  It does an amazing job on rust. You can get a gallon of it at Home Depot for cheap.  The vapors are like mustard gas! Extremely strong
