With KTM having more success with 2-stroke riders than it's 4-strokes (well unless you leave out Mike Brown), you would think they would have a factory 2-stroke rider in SX and MX. The 250 2-stroke is closely matched to the 350, so IMO they should offer Shorty and Alessi a choice (Or let Alessi go and hire Soubeyras).

I love 2 strokes but that would only put him further back in the pack.

I guess you can qualify that statement by saying in the US, but pretty much everywhere else in the world KTM 4-strokes have no problem winning races and championships. I'm 99% sure Alessi's problem is more himself than the bike.

I hate to say it but, KTM needs Alessi on a Honda. I hope he does well actually.

Nah, that one doesn't even deserve a response.

Damn, there went another IQ point.

Pretty sure he was on one at Loretta's a couple years back.

And yeah, I agree - I think if KTM put some fast guys on their smokers it would, at the

very least - give the 2 stroke line some recognition and, potentially, more sales.

And sales is what it is all about, right ?

Then again, Dungey has been killing it the last few years and you rarely see any

new Suzukis at the track...

Not to be a very wise-ass, but I would try the local Suzuki dealer.

Having said that, within the past few years, SUZUKIS have become

mysteriously - almost EURO - in their sporadic appearances at local tracks.

It's all KAW_- HONDA- YAM. and, sometimes KTM>

Suzys are odd balls anymore.

Perhaps that's why Roger evacuated the premises.

@burn1986: Trying to figure this out and keep in mind my assumption here can be wrong but... are you saying that the sucess KTM's had in the worcs/enduro/[random off-road racing category] automatically means that their 2-stroke line is somehow better than their 4-stroke line in motocross and supercross because the off-road riders in some cases prefer to run the 2-banger? In my opinion you can't compare the different disciplines. To me that's like saying let's go race F1 with a top fuel drag car or vice versa, well not really but you get the idea Smile

The type of racing in SX/MX compared to the off-road spectrum are just very different from eachother and I can absolutely understand why some prefer the "flickability" and "nimbleness" of a 2-stroke in tight situations in endurocross or such. Not to mention the off-road guys are riding the bike for a longer period of time in some cases, I can see having that extra mass and power of a 4-stroke really being a handful nearing the end of a race.

With that said, would I like to see 2-strokes race SX/MX? Yes.

Do I think 2-strokes can be competetive on a top level against 4-strokes(sx/mx)? Not so much.

Can Cedric Soubeyras' sucess at bercy can be used as proof that the 2-strokes can hang with the 4-strokes in say... the AMA-series? Hardly

Is Cedric Soubeyras an awesome rider? Yes!

Has 4-strokes leveled the playingfield? Yup.

Is Avarage Joe faster on a 4-stroke than a 2-stroke? Probably, since he will likely make less mistakes on the 4.

Why don't all Avarage Joe's out there ride a 4-stroke then? Cause being fastest isn't always what matters the most. End of rant

I was of course half-kidding... but I don't seem to see new suzuki's very often in local shops around here. If you remember last year none (except stroupe) of the lites guys even had a '10 model for the supercross season.

Or Maybe people just prefer green, blue and red.

X2 ...the best 450, down to a 350, and now he should go to a 250 smoker! Yeah! lets just get it done and put him on a ktm 50 Silly

Say what you want about 801, but he was bad ass outdoors on the 450, doing everything humanly possible to keep JS honest, than he lost all his talent, especially his Lifelong holeshot prowess when he went down 100cc. Um no, its the 350 which is only 5 lbs lighter and a hell of a lot slower.

Im 99% sure Alessi rides with power - if that makes sense - he definately rode a 450 better than a 250 and the 350 needs to be ridden like a 250 to perform like a 450.

Carioli is a small bore phenom - Alessi was on 450's when he was still in diapers

If a KTM 505 was legal, Alessi would dominate!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head. Alessi has been riding big bikes since he was 15. He would blow up the 250's. He is a power rider not one who whines out a 250. I just hope with RD there, he can convince KTM of this and let Mike ride the 450. They have Shorty for the 350. They still make and sell the 450 so let mike ride it. The 350 does not suit his style. He has never been a small bike rider.

My contention has been since the intro of the 350 that a 250 2-stroke would be a better match for a 450 in the right hands, ESPECIALLY in SX. Cairoli would have won his title on a 450 (probably more wins) a 250 4-stroke or a 250 2-stroke, because he is that much better than the competition in the GPs. Mike needs holeshots to be competitive, and the only thing that will give him that on a regular basis is a 450.

Either way, 2-stroke or 4, its only a matter of time before KTM is a powerful force in MX and SX. I think you should consider their results all over, not just in the Endurocross, WORCS, and off-road racing. Heck, they won the MX1 World GP.

Tony said riding a 450 is not a option at this point....hopefully that changes and he needs to get back in the row boat!

Mike is most definitely a power rider ...... I still can't accept that the 350 is/was the root cause of his bad season he still holeshot hangtown and as team alessi put it "we killed em" then went downhill what happened to tomac? They owned hangtown and their seasons especially eli's paralleled mike's and it had nothing to do with the bike. I just don't see the ktm as the cause and ill bet we all see a lot more success for the 350 this year both for mike and shorty

about the idea of racing the ktm 250 2 stroke I believe it could have great success in sx and don't see a factory 250 smoker being much of a disadvantage indoors against the 450's outdoors is a different story
