Well, the In-Laws (wife's parents) are arriving in about 1 hour to stay for the Thanksgiving week.

She comes from an "interupter family".

Que 5 days of talking over each other and never actually finishing a topic. 🤐

I'm told this is a mid-west thing.

I love them, and I'm looking forward to spending time and having family over for Thanksgiving, but they drive me crazy also 🤯

Anyone else forced to entertain family this week?

Nope! We hung with the family yesterday at BIL's house. No fights broke out. Funny thing was no politics were discussed. Not because it's a taboo subject, most of us have similar opinions, it's just that we don't see each other often enough and there was sooo much to tell.

Good time had by all!

Mine aren't here yet.  There's no earthly way of knowing what's gonna happen.  Hopefully it doesn't involve an ambulance or the cops.🙃

Mine dont speak a ton of English so can't complain lol. Most of the family thats older than me unless ita their white husbands talk a little when we or they show up a little at dinner and leaving.  Mostly talk to the BIL and cousins our age.

5 days with the in-laws? 5 hours is long enough...seriously.

I'm "take a nature walk after dinner" guy, to get out of the stuffy house and the non stop talking.

I remember those aggravating times.

I'd give almost anything to roll the clock back and live them again.

So, your wife monitors your posts?

Just kidding.

My father in law was a great guy… that’s all I’ll say.

My parents are in town (not staying with us but will be over except to sleep) tonight through Saturday, her parents are staying with us tonight through Saturday. Our house is 1400 sq. ft. and the kitchen is the size of a sardine can. Preparing for the impending shitshow the best I can.

My situation is a little out of the ordinary, I knew my in laws because I was friends with her older brother before he "hooked" us up . I had already been on a few father son fishing trips with my now father in law who is also a tool and die maker as well as hunter . Super awesome guy to hang out with . My mother in law is great to everyone .

I come from a very small family, most of who all have passed.  The wife comes from a family that never ends... cousins, uncle, aunts... 2nd 3rd, 4th removed.  Our thanksgiving is now held at one of her nephews houses in Casa Grande.  It's immediate family, a nice 5-6 hour in/out gathering.  However, two weeks before every Thanksgiving is the annual family music shindig. Most everyone on her side plays some kind of instrument, or try's.  Mostly country, bluegrass, gospel, harmonizing and an elderly aunt that yodels.  Still amazes me how many relatives she has that show up for the git-together.  One thing for sure, there's never a dull moment.

My wifes family is similar. A lot of them live nearby and her father and her moms brothers play acoustic guitars, or keyboard. They have all gotten older and don't play like they used too. It was nice when they did. Quiet and peaceful, holidays songs etc. You could sing along if you wanted to. One cousin has some opera training and she sang Ave Maria one Christmas. Very nice. Sadly the instrument playing looks to have ended with this older generation as none of us play.

One thing that is nice is that there seems to have been an influx of babies being borne in the past 5 or 6  years both in my wifes family and on my side. Oh man, i remember one holiday where it was just me in my mid 20's, me being the youngest with my 3 older siblings and spouses along with our aging parents. We  basically sat around and talked money, jobs,...we complained a lot or maybe it was commiserating I dont know.

One of her uncles was just inducted on the Bluegrass Hall of Fame a few years ago.  Every so often he'll bring some of his friends.  But with this family you could play the slide whistle or huff on a jug, doesn't matter.  She also has this young cousin, she's 11-12-13, and sing When Irish Eyes are smiling acapella that's just unbelievable.

We are hosting the in-laws as well...it's going to be interesting...my MIL and my FIL are divorced (touch and go relationship...mostly go...but they have their moments)...my FIL-who is 80 years old, mind you-got married to a 27 year old MAN early this spring...(My FIL isn't rich...he's broke and dirt poor, I have no idea what this guy sees in him or is after?)...so they'll all be over Thursday (first time with the MIL, FIL, and my “step FIL” who is almost 20 years younger than me, will all be in the same room).  Plus my SIL, and her son, my BIL his wife and their two boys (and my wife and I and our 4 kids).  I honestly love them all...I kind of enjoy the awkwardness of it all, and secretly hope there is just a bit of drama to keep things interest (nothing major, I don't want relationships fractured...but I would enjoy a little awkwardness around the table.).

I'm at a 2-hour max for in-laws or my side for any get togethers. Not that I don't like them, I just don't have anything in common with anyone.

HAHA - last week my wife asked "So, for Thanksgiving...would you like to head to their house on Monday and just stay the whole week? Might be nice?"

I'm still laughing. I'm typing this from my office, so no, I didn't take her up on her insane plan full of misery.

I can't say that I truly "hate" many people, but my father in law is solidly in that category.  My mother in law isn't, only because she is already passed.  When my FIL dies, I am going to drink extra gallons of water so that I can piss on his grave just as long as possible.

But other than that........

Seriously you need to find someone to write you a movie script. Make it similar to a my big fat Greek wedding and you'll likley never have to work again!

My in-laws are still alive, as far as I know. Wife and I are still disowned, and not upset about it.

That's right, I remember the drama from a few years ago when they were squatting at your place?

Our TG was great. 19 people in total from family to a couple of friends. 4 kids under 12 years old. MIL and FIL over 80. Food was good, weather outside perfect to play in , upper 30's, over cast and no wind. Got to play with my grand daughters in the big leaf pile. Shot some archery. Zero drama. My brother in law even managed not to get black out drunk, just a happy hard buzz.

^Yep, came to live with us for a little while - in my mind, maybe 3-4 months. It seemed to me like they felt it was their retirement plan, so after nearly 5 years and repeated requests for them to leave, I eventually had to evict them using legal means. It took 2 months to do even that. They disowned my wife and me after that and tried to drive a wedge between us and the rest of her family. It backfired on them when they wore out their welcome everywhere else, too.
