So what was wrong with the old system of dealing with these boats? Marksmen firing from helicopters disabling the engines then doing actual investigative work, collecting evidence, interrogating suspects. Why change to indiscriminate killing? All the "evidence" conveniently ends up on the bottom of the ocean, leaving no way to confirm that they were in fact carrying drugs.

Seems like they took a system that worked without violating international law and replaced it with one that does.

Is there really a defensible explanation for this?

International law does not dictate our actions around homeland security, nor is it enforceable in the way that Moron Zamboni and others like to assert.

99% of the drugs in this country come from there and we have definitive proof of that. It would certainly make a bigger dent than a handful of boats in international waters.

Probably because the US/cia is getting their fair cut of the profits from that operation. The American government doesn’t want drugs to stop, it too profitable. We just want a bigger cut of the profits from Venezuela.

It’s a negotiation tactic, political theater, and a fantastic way to further divide our country. All wins for AIPAC or whoever skunky cunts really run our country.

I understand both sides of the argument. However this is essentially what Trump ran on, and he's earned himself a long leash when it comes to his foreign policy decisions. Remember when everyone claimed thermonuclear WW3 when we bombed Iran? Well now we have middle Eastern countries bowing to Trump and pouring investments into the US.

The old strategies didn't work, which included Obama dropping bombs all over the middle east, without Congressional approval.

So send out more helicopters, have more patrols. You've got a million ships, hell, even with a drone you could target the engines then send a boat at them. Just outright blowing people up and then saying "trust me they had drugs" is absolutely insane.

Right, and then you'd be in here saying it's insane to spend that much money and put troops in harm's way to investigate fishing boats.

Again, this is Trump's presidency and he'll take the approach he believes is right. I don't remember riots in the streets when Obama was dropping bombs and killing civilians, including AMERICANS.

I wouldn't. I value human life over money.

And yeah, Obama shouldn't have been bombing areas with civilians either.

See how easy it is to get along when you aren't completely invested in one politician?

So, what...   Now that the Epstein files has fizzled out for the dems, they're on to this.  They couldn't care less about the Epstein victims or the constitutionality of blasting drug boats.  Just another daily display of the dems feign outrage over not being able to get Trump.

So back to my original question:  what does success look like?  When does Trump raise the “Mission Accomplished” banner?  Focusing on small watercraft as a means of controlling drugs is akin to spitting on an inferno.  Technically it’s “helping”, but at an infinitesimally small level. Trump wants regime change, and if nothing changes, that’s a shitload of money and resources that could have been put to better use elsewhere.

I get wanting to say FU to Dems and trolling, but....it's been going on ten years. You'd think at some point people would get bored, but then again Jerry Springer did make it 20+ seasons, so maybe we have another dime ahead. I personally don't see the benefit of lowering my character just to say FU to someone else, but not everyone values their character the same. That phrase about, "value yourself, or no one else will" has been proven accurate millions of times over now.

It's one of those thing where pretty much everyone agrees in principle, just not in the execution (npi). I have no problem renewing an actual war on drugs, two governments working together in force to eradicate cartels. Just....please follow the constitution and work as honorably as possible and don't be guided by a black heart. You can see the black hearts come through in the "...pussies..." and "..golf clap.." posts. Those kind of people have no business being anywhere near this kind of stuff, because they'd be walking war crimes. Take that goop to 4chan.

This 2025 National Drug Threat Assessment report does not mention fentanyl being trafficked from Venezuela.

I may have misspoke on fentanyl being the contents of these boats. Appreciate you providing some facts.

I still think this is Trump going after an easy target to send a broader message to the rest of the world about our borders.

What is the message?  Yes, a carrier battle group can be intimidating, but that also requires action.  Imagine the dictator who faced down the Americans and watched our fleet sail away.  Trump has put a lot of cards on the table and risking our credibility if Maduro remains in power.  The Ford battle group cannot remain on-station indefinitely.

It makes zero sense for fentanyl to come from Venezuela. It's nearly all coming in through the land border from California to Texas and the Sinaloa cartel isn't brokering anything for a cut. They're making it and taking all the profit and sending across themselves. There's nothing unique about the product and there's no reason to risk transport loss from all the way in Venezuela. It's not even worth the risk transporting it from southern Mexico. It's most likely coming from labs within 500 miles or so from the border. Logistically and considering Sinaloa cartel dominance in all of northern Mexico, it's coming from the Sinaloa cartel in northern Mexico.

I'm pretty sure there are cruise ships and cargo ships who only sail between U.S. ports that are "U.S. Flagged".
